I'm posting because 12 month old DS has been going to a CM since September & generally all is well there so far as I can tell - he loves her, which was my main concern.

Recently, we've become aware that she's been giving him undiluted orange juice in his bottles (it has stained the teats), which we are not happy about & have asked her to give him either milk or water in addition to the formula that we send him with, if he needs another drink (he'll happily drink anything, so that's not a problem).

Today, DH has come home & checked his book - he's eaten 'popcorn chicken & chips'. Apparently there was also a KFC cup on view when picking him up, so we can only assume that that's what he's eaten. There have been a few other instances when we've been slightly unhappy with what he's been given (jam sandwich, for example), but haven't said anything because it's not seemed worth it.

I really don't want to cause any offence, & she also looks after a family 2 year old, so clearly this is what they consider to be standard for a toddler & I don't want to seem like I'm criticising their values, because I'm not - we just have values of our own, too.

How should we approach this situation?

I am a CM ....... I have had an issue with one of the parents.....complaining I dont give breakfast to her kids......I always ask if they want anything n have open access to fruits n healthy snacks on the dining table
They always refuse to eat n say their not hungry.all the time every time......the children are not shy or hold back, when their hungry they ask for food......if I try to be firm with them to eat they are rude n challenging
The parent doesn't acknowledge this.....instead of sorting this with me , she's gone to the school slandering me for not giving them breakfast (its on the table but they refuse point blank) they are happy at mine n are happy when I drop them off to school...... they come to me just before 7am .....they brush teeth at mine , get changed into their uniforms at mine n the I do the girls hair aswell, so they are well presented
The parent is saying that the school staff said "that is not acceptable n disgusting as you are paying them" (baring in mind I haven't been paid for 6 weeks now) this has really hurt me n stressed me out......I take pride in taking great care of children in my house.....I have such good reviews from all my other parents n this has just disheartening.... I have suggested to her to provide something in the morning for them, so she can see for herself what they've eaten.......I have considered ending the contract n contacting my insurance company
I ask any childminder here or parent on any advise
Thank you n look forward to your response

Firstly, don't provide any more childcare until the bill is paid in full.

Secondly, inform her that from next term you will no longer be providing food so they must provide all food.
Also all children must arrive dressed and ready for the day.

Alternatively, give her 1 month notice.

I wouldn’t be happy at all. I would choose another childminder and be moving them

Yasmien · 04/10/2025 14:29

Thank you VikaOslon for your feedback
I really appreciate it
I've not slept last night because I really don't know where all this bitterness has come from
She knows her children are very picky n fussy eaters n also I have never charged for food but also i never said I will provide breakfast either, however I still offer n encourage them to eat something at least
Once again thank you

Yasmien · 04/10/2025 14:33

Thank you for your feed back Squishydishy
But can I ask why you would move?
Just for me to improve my services n to get difference of opnions
Thank you
