Nanny working on our holiday

We are taking our nanny with us next holiday, just wondering how should I pay her?
We are going to be away for 10 days, (2 days travel, 6 days holiday, 2 days travel)
The 6 days she will be working normal hours, but do I pay her full wages for the travel days?

Of course you do. She isn't choosing to travel for 4 days.

Yes, she’s only travelling there to work for you and can’t earn any other money in that time, four days is a lot of travel time

Why wouldn't you pay her travel time? She's not going for a fun holiday she is going for work.

My ex’s nanny used to get paid for all travel days plus a bonus for being away from home.

I'm a nanny.
If my employers were taking me on holiday with them - I'm entitled to my normal pay for all of the days - normally they pay me extra as I'm away from home.
I wouldn't go to work if they wanted me to travel for 4 days with no pay!

It amazes me you would even ask! Do you think she works for your family for the fun of it? She's working all the days, even the travel ones! And you should pay her extra as she doesn't get to go away from you every evening. Seriously.

I would expect you need to pay her (why wouldn’t you) and pay extra as she is stuck there the whole time.

Good grief, do you even have to ask? Of course she should be paid. She's not going on a fabulous holiday of her own choosing is she? She's travelling for two days there and back (which is a pain in the arse anyway) to care for your children.

What bit of looking after your offspring being 'work' do you not get OP? It's her job, she shows up, she gets paid. Doesn't matter whether your family are travelling, vegetating in the sofa or doing a ten mile hike.

Err. ..Say you travel on business. Do you think you should be paid for the days you're travelling or just the days you're doing business?

I remember working one Christmas day as a nanny and my boss didn’t want to pay me. “But we took you to a 5 star hotel” was her reason. I had to explain that it wasn’t my choice and I was working not on holiday. I was not with my family and friends. She paid. You should too op. Ridiculous you’re even thinking of not paying your nanny.

You pay her for travel or course!! It’s not her holiday is it.

Yes, you should pay her. If you don’t want to then don’t make her work while you are away with your children.

Presumably your nanny will be looking after the children when you are travelling for four days?
