I know this is probably a highly inappropriate thing to say but..........relax!! You sound incredibly organised!

Are you seeing the same inspector as your initial inspection?

I've seen the same lady 3 times and she's very friendly and it felt more like an informal chat than an exam. I know different inspectors seem to have different rules but you seem to have covered everything. Surely you'd have to do something very wrong to receive an inadequate grade(?) (although I'm no expert!). I shall stop waffling now, I'm probably making you feel worse!!

I shall send you lots of positive thoughts tomorrow!!!

smeeinit · 12/04/2007 08:06

good luck pinkchick! hope she comes today so you can get it over and done with!

saltire · 12/04/2007 08:18

Good grief, if that's even half of what's involved being a CM under OFSTED I may have to re-think!
I hope your inspection goes ok pinkchick, I'm sure it will, sounds like you have put a lot of effort in. I sometimes wonder if OFSTED/The Care Commission are trying really hard to discourage poeple from childminding, they are turning us more and more into "nursery" type settings instead of "home" settings aren't they?

weeonion · 12/04/2007 10:03

i am really sorry to hijack this thread but i would really rather put my wee one with a childminder than a nursry from jan 08 onwards. i live in the east end of glasgow - can any of you advise of any childminders you know of - i have been looking at sites and sadly - there doesnt seem to be a one in my area.

my mum was a childminder for years. she still talks fondly about it and i am in touch with a few of the kids who grew up with us. many pseudo siblings!

PinkChick · 12/04/2007 12:56

she didnt come...so tomorrow now!..and no, different inspector

crace · 12/04/2007 17:20

Oh bummer - well, at least now you know when.. fingers crossed for you but I know you will do great.

PinkChick · 12/04/2007 18:26

thanks chick, i only have 3yr old mindee tomorrow no babies so can i take baby gate off bottom of stairs?????

OP posts:
KaySamuels · 12/04/2007 18:36

I'd leave it on

PinkChick · 12/04/2007 19:27

dya think?, its just its pressure mounted, so each time you open it you have to hold it to make sure it doesnt collapse all together?????

OP posts:
KaySamuels · 12/04/2007 19:29

haha! If it's that bad maybe leave it off then!

PinkChick · 12/04/2007 19:34

well mindee is 4 in sept and dd 4 coming wed, they are both very competant with stairs, i have one at top as i dont think ill ever take that off..but in training i was told i should have one at bottom but not nessecary at top cos if they are old enough to get up stairs(meaning no gate at bottom), the should be able to get down????...so my upstairs one is purely for night time/sleepwalking and for when i need a wee and take mindees up stairs with me......what to do..i CAn condone it, but deends whos hymn book she reading from??

OP posts:
PinkChick · 12/04/2007 21:36

hmm, have taken it off..last inspector said I should risk assess, dependant on childs age and ability and i think it is safe as i go with them anyway....god.worry all over agin now tho!..roll on this time tomorrow night

OP posts:
ThePrisoner · 12/04/2007 21:50

(weeonion - don't know if you've already done it, but I would start a new thread under Nannyshares (childminders are listed too), as it is more likely that you would get a reply there.)

PinkChick · 13/04/2007 08:19

oh god, im so nervous!..i need to get a grip..i keep thinking what if she asks me something about the standards and i just go blank..what if she wants me to recite them!..i havent put stair gayte back up and will explain as she comes in..but ..help me calm down!, feel like im taking an exam!

smeeinit · 13/04/2007 12:08

hope its going well for you pinkchick! fingers crossed for a great outcome.

PinkChick · 13/04/2007 12:17

...shes been, she was absolutely lovey..and i got a GOOD grade..she said she doesnt very often give out outstandings, for this she looks for higher levels of training, birth to three structure all in place, paperwork showing daily planned activites, actual communication letters with aprent(if you dont need them you dont have them?!)..etc etc..she said i could have easily given an outstanding by another inspector, but she would rather say GOOD as i knew i had a few bits to improve on(few words needed changing in policies etc)..but am ver ...........plus dd has been a winger all the while she was here, so dont know how i looked as i was getting stressed out

OP posts:
smeeinit · 13/04/2007 12:18

woohoo!! well done you!!!
thats excellent!

and now you can relax until 2010!!!

PinkChick · 13/04/2007 12:21

i know..thing is she mentioned (no names or areas of course) about a cm she 'knew' getting an outstanding who she wouldnt have sent her dog too and was wondering how to broach a cmplaint against decision??...so i think i those circumstances three years is a very long time!...but WoooHoooo for me
