Am 39 weeks today. Head has been completely engaged and cervix 1cm dilated since 36.5 weeks. Getting lots and lots of painful braxton hicks that are both tightenings across bump and period pain at back. These will be every few minutes for about half an hour in the night and then tail away to nothing! My nipples are incredibly sore and "fizzing" which means am always aware of them and if I have a quick twiddle this will trigger off a cascade of bh. Had no show or mucus plug but toldi might not as cervix already dilated. I am so uncomfortable- there is not a comfy position any more, the pressure on my bits is immense and the head is defo so low sometimes I'm suprised it doesn't pop out when I sneeze! the baby is now in optimal birth position and no longer posterior. So seriously do I have at least another week plus to go or do we think it might be sooner? (mw says sooner but then they have been saying that since 36 weeks bit then again she was still posterior then!). Oh and my nesting is all finished, yesterday I had to sleep all day and then cried because DH refused me a foot rub, (clutching at straws for labour signs now). So ladies what do we think? Days or weeks?

Thandeka - I feel your pain

Im due today and have been like for about 2 weeks now. I have no idea if Im dilating or anything - Mw wont do a sweep until Im 40+7!

I went for a walk yesterday and that seemed to bring on stronger pains but they stopped at night. Had a hot curry last night and that did nothing!

I havent had a show or anything either

Dd was 2 days early so I have never been this pregnant!!

Fingers crossed something happens soon for you. Do you know when your mw will do a sweep?

Fibilou · 29/01/2010 09:49

I'm 40+5 today and the MW wouldn't even do an internal at my last appointment to see if was at all dilated. She won't countenance sweep until 40+9.
So 5 days overdue and no clue as to whether anything is getting ready. No BHs, nothing, apart from constant backache that I have had for a week and a half.
Hang on in there and you have my sympathies

SEX ??

IndiMamaJones · 29/01/2010 09:54

40 + 2 today and it is so frustrating! Dh was off work yesterday and I dragged him to bed (must have terrified the poor man!) and then had pains all afternoon. Now they have stopped altogether

Thandeka - it sounds good, surely can't be too much longer! Is this your first?

flyingcloud · 29/01/2010 11:03

Hello Thandeka I too am 39w today, but I have zero signs or symptoms to encourage me or you...

I go for good long walks every day, yesterday I reckon it was about 1.5 miles and I went as briskly as I could. I also fell over yesterday and had sex after lunch as DH doesn't work in the afternoons(pretty pleasure free for me, but DH seemed happy).

Apart from very sore knees (from falling over, not from ingesting prostaglandin ) and feeling very tired all afternoon - I had a few BH that disappeared once I had a bath and moved around a bit.

My doc (seeing a gynae here in France) has offered me a sweep on Monday though. I am in two minds about whether to take it as I will only be 39+3. My mother is here for a few days and even if the sweep is ineffective it will be nice just to have her here.

Sorry for slight hijack. You have my sympathies and I wish there was something I could say or do.

Am eating lots of pineapple and drinking raspberry leaf (which I know doesn't induce labour). I haven't tried nipple twiddling yet as I sort of feel that I don't want to induce contractions if she's not ready, if I was having other signs then I would be twiddling away.

I think I have managed to convince myself that my bump is getting smaller. I JUST WANT MY BABY.

flyingcloud · 29/01/2010 11:28

Oh - it's a full moon this weekend, on Saturday I think, so that may help. The mw who took our ante-natal classes says full moons are the busiest time on labour wards.

mummynumnum · 29/01/2010 11:40

Oo! Full moon-that gives me hope for arrival of mine!

wasabipeanut · 29/01/2010 12:49

Aw Thandeka have faith - it will be soon! I had very similar sensations (tingly nips especially) in the 2-3 days before starting ctrx with DD last Saturday. You'll pop soon!

I had the beginnings of a show on Saturday morning when I got up and then walked into town with DH and DS, very slowly! Walked back after a good lunch and that seemed to get things going. DD born at 3.38am on Sunday.

Thandeka · 29/01/2010 12:59

Yay for full moon! Am off to practice my howling then.

Oh crumbs I hope it happens soon for all of us. I did want to wait until feb as Jan is a sad month to have a birthday but then again apparently "increased risk of developing schizophrenia if you are born in feb!" so I don't really care!

Have texted DH to say this weekend is the start of "operation get this baby out"- have just had a full body massage now about to get into a clary sage bath.

Weekend will involve walks, shagging, blowjobs, pineapple and curry. Next week I have acupuncture and reflexology booked. This baby is coming out in next seven days even if I have to take a plunger too her- I am not going overdue!

Oh and think I may carry on with the nipple twiddling and start on the labour inducing pressure points

Good luck everybody!

Oh god Thandeka, I'm 38+4 what's this schizophrenia business? Hopefully bollocks.

Love operation baby out, ha ha.

Thandeka · 29/01/2010 14:32

oh is almost defo bollocks! A correlation not causation thingy methinks- my bro ended up with it and he is a july baby so no link there then!

Here is a tenuous link- eep but it includes march and april too! yikes!

OP posts:
Initio · 29/01/2010 14:36

I'll stick my boy infront of a lightbox then!
Hope your bro is OK.

Thandeka · 29/01/2010 14:44

yup fine now and very excited about being an uncle for first time!

Lightbox sounds good (I was evil and kept shining a torch on my bump from about 20 weeks to get her to wriggle- so I think she probably has enough light doses to last her!)

btw does anyone know if it can be pineapple juice or does it have to be chunks? Fresh or tinned?

OP posts:
flyingcloud · 29/01/2010 14:45

I'm a February baby and look at me I turned out fine - although I may turn this weekend with the full moon and no sign of baby.

Thandeka · 29/01/2010 15:18

and ooops congrats to Wasabi! Hurrah! and fingers crossed you are right on the 2-3 days to go....

xxx

And hehe flyingcloud- I think we should all aim for full moon werewolf babies!

OP posts:
Initio · 29/01/2010 16:06

Had our NCT classes the other week and we were told it ideally should be fresh pineapple at at least 3 a day . Sounds like major faffage to me, would go with the man from Del Monte.

So is it true about the full moon? I'm having mine at St. Thomas' in London and apparently shit seriously does get weird around full moons.

I reckon my boy is going to be a werewolf baby anyway (judging by my arms pit atm - sorry tmi!).

Did anyone understand that article? Or is it just that my brain has shrunk to the size of a pea since getting pregnant...

IndiMamaJones · 31/01/2010 06:49

Any news from anyone? Nothing here yet

mama2moo · 31/01/2010 09:57

Nothing here yet! And, I went to the supermarket in the dark last night so that the full moon was out!!!

Thandeka · 31/01/2010 10:08

Nothing to report here either cept as it happens was having some serious hardcore braxton hicks yesterday cue DH running round waving "what to expect when your expecting" in a complete panic. The doorbell rang and it was a charity collector and DH was shouting at him my wife's in labour and the poor guy didn't understand so DH was apparently waving the book at him trying to get him to understand! The whole episode had me hysterical with laughter! Of course all BH's now warn off and all back to normal- though they did return painfully in the night but gone again today. Bah. Today I am going to try sex (tho it may be solo since dh isn't keen!) a walk, evening primrose, acupressure points, birthball bouncing and mebbe some pineapple and a clary sage bath!

hehe.

mama2moo · 31/01/2010 10:52

I dreamt last night that I went into labour, got to the hospital and there was a queue of women waiting for a room because of the full moon!!

I dont think my baby could get much lower today!

I think I will go for a walk today, dp isnt keen at all on sex! TBH nor am I!

I am worried about how fast this baby is going to come once it is real labour. Surely we must be dilating by now. I might go and see midwifey on Tuesday and see what she says.

flyingcloud · 31/01/2010 11:17

God no, I just feel like I have constant trapped wind - can that be put down to BH? Bump is hard and constantly achy.

Slept relatively well last night, think I am going backwards!

Thandeka · 01/02/2010 13:34

I think mama2moo is in labour!

How are the rest of us doing? I am just back from acupuncture seriousl grumpy and uncomfortable but nothing to report. Even managed a shag last night which resulted in lots of BH's and backache but nothing doing.

Come on baby where are you!

OP posts:
mama2moo · 01/02/2010 14:03

I think I might be in labour too! Its been a weird day though, not sure what is going on.

Still getting what I am sure is a show and contractions are back.

Dp stayed home today and my parents have been on standby since 9am! Not sure what to do though, I havent phoned the hospital yet, will see what happens with contractions.

Its quite weird to think that this is the start of things and that I have some bloody hard work to do soon!

Ladies - Take my advice, make the most of sleep and you bump. Im going to miss mine
