Am 39 weeks today. Head has been completely engaged and cervix 1cm dilated since 36.5 weeks. Getting lots and lots of painful braxton hicks that are both tightenings across bump and period pain at back. These will be every few minutes for about half an hour in the night and then tail away to nothing! My nipples are incredibly sore and "fizzing" which means am always aware of them and if I have a quick twiddle this will trigger off a cascade of bh. Had no show or mucus plug but toldi might not as cervix already dilated. I am so uncomfortable- there is not a comfy position any more, the pressure on my bits is immense and the head is defo so low sometimes I'm suprised it doesn't pop out when I sneeze! the baby is now in optimal birth position and no longer posterior. So seriously do I have at least another week plus to go or do we think it might be sooner? (mw says sooner but then they have been saying that since 36 weeks bit then again she was still posterior then!). Oh and my nesting is all finished, yesterday I had to sleep all day and then cried because DH refused me a foot rub, (clutching at straws for labour signs now). So ladies what do we think? Days or weeks?

Oooh - exciting Thandeka. Sounds like they broke, really it does from my

I am 40w today and still NOTHING. A few BH at night. I coaxed DH into relatively energetic sex last night... nothing to report afterwards.

Just been for a long walk too - and nothing. A friend of mine who is 38w today has just gone into labour.

Keep us posted. We're getting a sudden rush on our Feb ante-natal thread too but I think I am going to go fairly close to induction date of 15/02 at this stage.

Thandeka · 05/02/2010 13:32

Well had stretch and sweep this morning. My waters defo still intact so they said it was possibly big gush of discharge!? (cept was water!).

My cervix is anterior and 2cm dilated so favourable and apparently 50%of sweeps go into labour in next 12 hours! (8hours to go!?) feeling period painy and icky with a few braxton hicks so we shall see.....

Come on babies (i mean belonging to this thread not that I have more than one in there!) out you pop!

Ha, good luck Thandeka, sounds like it's all going in the right direction and flyingcloud i wish you the best of luck. Im 40w on Monday and just wish I could go into labour today.

I'm booked in for an induction on the 20th if he's not here by then...horrified at that possibility. This feels like this is my life now, though. Perpetually pregnant.

Thandeka · 05/02/2010 17:32

Just realised I started this thread a week ago today. So it wasn't days. If I get to next Friday there will be trouble- then again my gave midwife is doing a shift on labour ward that day.......

Good luck initio and flying cloud- fancy trying some reflexology labour induction points with me? My reflexologist emailed them to me. Will post em in next post (am on iPod and not clever enough to do in this one!)

yes please!

I went shopping today and filled the shopping trolley full of food and wouldn't let DH help me with the bags when I got home! Will put my back out at this rate!

Also made a cake and burnt my tummy (was running a bath and in my dressing gown when I took it out of the oven, dressing gown doesn't quite meet round my tummy and now I have a fetching red line across my tummy above my belly button).

So doing a bit of injury to me but baby is totally unaware of what is going on.

Grrr I posted it but Mnet must have eaten it:
These are the tips from my lovely reflexologist. I credit her with getting me pregnant twice (well apart from DH's role! bthough one mmc) and yesterday my cervix couldnt be felt by midwife- today it was anterior and 2cm dilated- I think I will credit her with that too!

So if any of you are in north london and want her number gimme a shout!

The steps are:

  1. Step 1
Apply firm pressure to the center of the thumbs. Alternate between the right thumb and the left thumb. Sustain the pressure for at least three minutes before switching to the other thumb. Supplying this pressure to the thumb induces uterine contractions. This stimulates the pituitary gland, which releases oxytocin the hormone that induces labour.
  1. Step 2
Locate pressure points on the insides of the ankles, an inch or two above the foot. Search for a spot on the ankle that feels tender, by applying pressure with the fingertips. Continue applying pressure until you feel a contraction. Stop applying the pressure to the ankle if you feel a contraction beginning. When a contraction has completed its cycle, begin to apply the pressure again.
  1. Step 3
Place yourself in a position that is comfortable. Use your fingers to apply pressure to the space about a finger width between the big and second toes. Continue with the pressure points in 15-minute intervals until contractions begin.
  1. Step 4
Press a point on the arch of your foot, in front of your ankle. If the spot is very sensitive, press less firmly until you feel relief. This point helps in dealing with pain

Can a lurker ask do you mean the centre of the ball of the thumb, or thumb itself IYSWIM?

Thandeka · 06/02/2010 08:16

Centre of ball of thumb.....

Got my mucus plug this am so think these moves combined with everything else is working!
