Am 39 weeks today. Head has been completely engaged and cervix 1cm dilated since 36.5 weeks. Getting lots and lots of painful braxton hicks that are both tightenings across bump and period pain at back. These will be every few minutes for about half an hour in the night and then tail away to nothing! My nipples are incredibly sore and "fizzing" which means am always aware of them and if I have a quick twiddle this will trigger off a cascade of bh. Had no show or mucus plug but toldi might not as cervix already dilated. I am so uncomfortable- there is not a comfy position any more, the pressure on my bits is immense and the head is defo so low sometimes I'm suprised it doesn't pop out when I sneeze! the baby is now in optimal birth position and no longer posterior. So seriously do I have at least another week plus to go or do we think it might be sooner? (mw says sooner but then they have been saying that since 36 weeks bit then again she was still posterior then!). Oh and my nesting is all finished, yesterday I had to sleep all day and then cried because DH refused me a foot rub, (clutching at straws for labour signs now). So ladies what do we think? Days or weeks?

G'luck lady!

PMSL Laughing actually made my contraction stronger then!!

I will keep you posted

flyingcloud · 02/02/2010 03:13

Having another sleepless night, but otherwise no signs. Doc couldn't do the sweep today as I am not ready!

It's going down to the wire here I think.

Mama2Moo hope you are doing well?

Initio · 02/02/2010 06:27

Oooh good luck mama2moo. No sign of mine either, but popped to the hospital to have a chat with the midwife yesterday, and overheard lots of chatter re dialation and pushing in the waiting room, now a bit scared.

mummynumnum · 02/02/2010 09:16

Is clumsiness a sign of labour? Got c sectio n booked on ri, but was hoping it might come naturally before then-not looking likely though!!!

Thandeka · 02/02/2010 10:06

hah mummynumnum- I think clumsiness is a sign of pregnancy- I know I keep dropping everything but trouble is I often squeal when I do it (as you do!) cue DH thinking I have gone into labour and rushing in- only to find I have dropped my ipod on the floor! (He wasn't impressed!)

Have had no signs since the comedy episode on saturday- I am even furkling for a show which is TMI and probably not a good idea. And because the head is so far down (seriously the kid is practically licking my knees so why wont she come out!) then my weeing pattern has changed so erm I everytime I go to the loo I think my waters have gone but am 99% sure its just wee now!

Come on the rest of us get a move on! And I want an update from mama2moo!

OP posts:
flyingcloud · 02/02/2010 14:39

Snort- I had to google 'furkling'....

Thandeka · 02/02/2010 14:45

haha and one of my other mumsnet posts is 5th entry in google! ooops!

I think stupidness is a sign of labour Thandeka

I had dd2 this morning at 2.59am! 8lb 13oz but no tears or grazes. She is lovely and fast asleep at the mo! No name yet!

Labour was great, lovely mw who got me into a kneeling position on the bed hanging over the head board - Gas and air only. I have kept my mouthpiece as a reminder It was a great experience and didnt hurt that much - I made a lot of noise which I must admit I quite enjoyed

Now its your turn - I will be checking for an announcement soon

Thandeka · 02/02/2010 21:45

Awesome! Congrats- I want a birth like yours! Just told dh "stupidness is a sign of labour" he said he had never known me not to be in labour then! Humph!

Thandeka · 03/02/2010 14:46

wasabipeanut · 03/02/2010 15:50

Hey congrats Mama2moo - been lurking on this one to see how you and my old friend Thandeka from the "6 weeks and bricking it lounge" were getting on.

Glad to hear that your DD2 has arrived safe and sound!

Thandeka · 03/02/2010 17:37

Just back from hospital- all fine (but very glad I got it checked just for reassurance). Had a scan baby is in right position, right level of fluids, moving and HB all fine. So much happier. Oh and I managed to persuade them to give me a sweep on Friday. I couldn't persuade them to do it today because am not 40weeks but they capitulated on Friday (though technically my dates say Friday is 40weeks but scan dates say Sat!)

Phew!

Thanks all!

thandeka my bump was really hard and really weird shaped just before I went into labour. The mw thought she was back to back because of the shape but she wasnt.

I want to do it again already for the gas and air!!

Good luck everyone, I cant wait to here about your births and babies

mummynumnum · 04/02/2010 06:15

My db was thrashing about like a good one last night and bump looked severely deformed. Convinced it was about to arrive but still no show this morning,so csection tomorrow morning.

Just debating whether can be arsed to drive to opticians today for eye appt! Why did I book it today? saying that I need to buy a pressie also from db to dd.

flybynight · 04/02/2010 09:41

Thandeka ignore midwives telling you it is a great big baby. When I was second stage with my dc2 the head of midwives told me that she'd "seen a lot of babies born, and this is a really big one." He was 7lbs. Perfect size!

Thandeka · 04/02/2010 17:31

OH MY GOD!

So I am 95% my waters broke this morning. Big gush- right orifice, trickles after. Headed to hospital as instructed. Examined- kept there for 4 hours, cervix far back so not examinable but head right down, am not in labour, not contracting, docs decided they hadn't gone and sent me home again.

So did I wee myself? I really don't think I did- and there was a lot of fluid at the time!

Bah!

Am heading in tomorrow for a sweep....

Getting fed up of that bloody hospital now given that will have been there 4 times this week.

mama2moo · 04/02/2010 18:34

Thandeka Sounds good!! My waters leaked then I went into labour the next morning.

Keep us posted and good luck

Thandeka · 05/02/2010 07:59

Still nowt to report. Maybe I did just wee myself?! My due date is today (which I just typoed to "die date" ooops!). I feel sick and had lots of sore braxton hicks last night that were getting stronger and then disappeared into nothing. Tiny bit of jelly mucus this morning.

I know these are all positive signs but I also know it still could be a couple of weeks after these signs- am being driven mad!

OP posts:
mama2moo · 05/02/2010 10:21

I think you will have it tomorrow (what do I win if Im right?!)

All good signs and it defo means its going to happen soon
