Ok 39 + 2 days and waters went spectacularly an hour ago!!

Popped to hospital who examined me and said yep waters have gone!

So im now home not sure what to do.... thinking of going to bed to get some rest as im stil suffering laryngitis which is not nice!

Feel like I need to use the loo but to scared to due to infection risk to baby! (silly I know!)

No contractions that I know of, well bump keeps going hard but im in no real pain as such!? Hoping things will start in the morning will see how things go!

all support welcomes with my first birth!!

ooh thats interesting then!!

Hopefully that means things will pick up again but not to fast as i sent DH of to work this morning so he does not waste a days holiday sitting twiddling his thumb!

Hi hurrydownthechimney, what time did they stop? I had a bit of a break between contractions when I had dd.

Also, I never had a show with her. My waters leaked then I had her at 7pm the next night.

Could you go for a walk round the block or something? That might get things going again.

Good luck I am very jealous

twinklegreen · 20/01/2010 08:15

Have they given you and induction date yet?

I bet your DH is struggling to concentrate in work!!!

diddl · 20/01/2010 08:31

Sounds different to both of mine so can´t comment!

My pains were all around the bum & I thought I was constipated!

Hoping all goes well.

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2010 08:37

Oh this sounds so much like my labour starting. My waters broke at dinner time (though I didn't bother with the hospital, my waters had clearly broken!).

I went to bed, dh snored all night. I did NOT. Had contractions on and off all night.

Got up in the morning, dh went on his merry way, I had breakfast and then things sped up as the morning went on...

I'm so excited for you!

tadders · 20/01/2010 08:53

my 1st labour was like this; waters went early hours of Monday morning and contractions were stop/starting. I had to go to hosptial 3 times to have temperature taken, monitor baby's heartbeat etc. Proper labour started tuesday night and Madam was born 8.30 am Wednesday and has been an awkward bugger since!
I didn't have a 'show' and all my pains were in my bum- felt like someone was shoving a broomshank up there

Hope things get moving for you quickly- GOOD LUCK!!!

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 20/01/2010 09:14

thankyou!

No induction date yet no as he is due on Monday 25th. Hospital have been fantastic so far its rather amusing i ring in and they go 'oh you must be hurrydown' we can tell by the voice! lol

11:20 going in to be checked up etc.

Tadders did you find bump feels totally different once waters have gone? Midwife told me there is always more being made which put my mind at ease!

hobbgoblin · 20/01/2010 09:30

hurrydown, morning!

It sounds a little bit like my back to back labour - have they checked and double checked presentation?

IF this is the case, getting on all fours with bum high helps .

Hope more happens soon!

pigleychez · 20/01/2010 09:31

oh how exciting.

I think they worry about induction/interention or something after 24 hours because of the risk of infection and they would only check me every 4 hours.

I was having in been induced anyway and my contractions started hard and fast immediately. In fact the MWs were worried it would happen fast and they were overrun as it was.... They neednt have worried as it was 27 looonnggg hours!

Fingers crossed for you... Good luck

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 20/01/2010 09:33

hob thats interesting you say that he was back to back a few weeks ago but saw midwife since who sais he is now on his side, which is what they said last night.

will they try to induce me after 24 hours? I heard being induced is very painful I dont think I want that...... somewhere in my mind i thought it was 2 days or so.

OP posts:
mama2moo · 20/01/2010 09:39

When my waters went I was given 4 days before they would have induced. I was sent home with thermometers and told to go back if my temperature went up!!!

So long as they are checking you for infection you will be ok for a few days.

It sounds like they are keeping an eye on you which is good

hobbgoblin · 20/01/2010 09:43

My midwives did not recognise that DD was back to back, but a student midwife on one of last Antenatal apps. whispered "is this back to back?" to my midwife (I heard). Turns out she was right and experienced m/w was wrong!

Anyway, if I'd known that I would have been on all fours and on my head trying to turn her before I ended up bed bound and on a drip! She never did turn and came out looking at me!

Being induced isn't the greatest ime so defo check out the position. It may not be wise to wave bum in air if he is in a good position as this may make him drop out of your pelvis and change position but obv. if you have a lot of bum presure and back pain and it is likely he is posterior then definitely get your bum in the air. Also, when sitting, sit tall with your knees low and bum up to lengthen your abdomen kind of thing and make space for movememnt. How engaged are you?

Standard is 24 hrs post waters going before they hassle you but you don't have to be induced then.

If you google homebirth there is some good info on not being induced just because 24 hrs has passed.

alibobins · 20/01/2010 09:55

My waters broke the night before I had Ds he was back to back and when my contractions came the were all in my back and bottom. Contactions didn't start on their own and I ended up being induced in the afternoon but that was mainly because the heart tracing wasn't what they like it to be x

mejon · 20/01/2010 10:19

My waters with DD went in the middle of the night. I had no contractions at all and not really knowing what to do next, rang the labour ward and was told to come in at lunchtime to be monitored. I was told that they'd induce me after 36 hours. Luckily my contractions started after 30 hours. This was 3.5 years ago. I wasn't told to monitor my temperature nor was I given any precautionary antibiotics but we were both kept in for an extra night (so 2 in all) to just check that there wasn't any infection.

Good luck - hope it starts properly for you soon!

SelinaDoula · 20/01/2010 10:46

Hi Hun,
It could be your baby is back to back (posterior) or some other type of malpresentation (head to one side or not tucked in).
As a doula, if my client was in this scenario I would suggest-
20 mins of FAST and vigorous circles on the birth ball.
Going for a walk- walk with one foot on and one foot off the pavement- on the way home walk on the other side of the street (this rocks the pelvis)
This is good too-
spinningbabies.blogspot.com/2008/02/alternative-to-induction.html
You could get a friend to help with the sifting-any large shawl like cloth or sheet will do as the rebozo.
The inversion can be very useful and you should try to do one for as long as possible.
You could also try using this technique-
www.spinningbabies.com/techniques/activities-for-fetal-positioning/abdominal-lift -and-tuck
A massage with a few drops of Clary sage aromatherapy oil (you can also put some on a cloth and smell it later in labour to bring on contractions.
The hospital may suggest induction if you are not in active labour within 24 hours.
You can also request expectant management and wait for labour to start.
Infection is what is worried about so they may suggest an antibiotic drip in labour (this takes half an hour or so so you shouldn't be attached to it all the time).
Good luck!
Selina

I wonder how its going? I hope things have started again.

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 20/01/2010 13:06

hi ladies back now!

Saw midwife who firstly said I have untill saterday 7:40pm to go into natural labor, if nothing then i will need to be induced!

Checked me over and discovered I have an irregular heartbeat! she asked if I had taken drugs, alcohol or been smoking

I told her all I had had was 1 strepsil 10 mins prior to seeing her (so i had a voice!) and 2 paracetamol! Said they will keep their eye on my heartbeat and if it concerns them I have be transfered to the bigger hospital which I really did not want!

Def will get on the birthing ball thats some good advice! will prob do after I have had a nap or as much sleep as i can get this afternoon!

xx

mama2moo · 20/01/2010 13:11

Thats good, you have a while to get things going.

Fingers crossed it was the Strepsil! I guess you are quite excited/stressed at the moment so that could be a factor.

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 20/01/2010 13:25

mama im so chilled and feel not stressed at all! friend has gone now so will take this chance to rest now
