Popped to hospital who examined me and said yep waters have gone!

So im now home not sure what to do.... thinking of going to bed to get some rest as im stil suffering laryngitis which is not nice!

Feel like I need to use the loo but to scared to due to infection risk to baby! (silly I know!)

No contractions that I know of, well bump keeps going hard but im in no real pain as such!? Hoping things will start in the morning will see how things go!

all support welcomes with my first birth!!

How exciting for you. You will soon have a snuggly gorgoeus little baby. So sweet.
Go rest while you can.

hobbgoblin · 19/01/2010 23:45

Do you mean you feel you need to poo? I hope it's not a head!

Good Luck

littleducks · 19/01/2010 23:46

Good luck

Oh and go to the loo, there is no chance of you holding it in and pushing a baby out!

thisisyesterday · 19/01/2010 23:46

if you feel the urge to do a poo then go and do it! that way you mighjt not do it during labour

good luck

KittyNotVengefulAnymore · 19/01/2010 23:56

Yes, yes, go to the loo if you have to!

I had the constant urge to poo during the first few hours of labour (although mine was only 7hrs start to baby!) and I sat on the loo for ages. No poos, and then I was convinced I was pooing on the delivery table!

Good luck!!

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 20/01/2010 01:36

well looks like contractions have started! they seem quite close together and mainly in my back which is a bit frightening! although this is my first time so maybe its not contractions??

Tried sleeping but get regular back pains that come and go combined with the leaking of waters! urgh not liking that! Now the pains have come across my belly and into my bum area!?

I will start timing them now I assumed I had to be in agony but what if they are close together and im not in total agony??

DH is fast asleep i tried but cant get to sleep!

OP posts:
hobbgoblin · 20/01/2010 01:59

Are you going to hosp or staying home?

You don't have to be in agony for them to be real!

Are they long and strong yet? Main thing is regularity I think - is there a pattern building?

If you can't sleep can you eat for energy?

Exciting good luck!

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 20/01/2010 02:04

hi hobgoblin!

Yes def a pattern emerging here i need to start timing them to know how often and how long they are lasting.

Im staying home as hospital is a 5 min drive from here although we just been issues a snow warning for tonight and tommorrow! Was planning on going to hosp as late as I can.

DH asleep right now so got my dad online for company! not hungry cant even think about food.

Thanks for being online!

hobbgoblin · 20/01/2010 02:13

Oh well, at least your DH will have the energy to be helpful when you are getting tired. lol!

I could never eat in labour but like a horse afterwards.

Sounds as though you are sailing through the early part of labour rather than it being a drag. You may have progressed more than you think by the time you reach hospital.

I was sooo not this calm when my labours started - even with the last two babies I had. I had a little last minute panic every time!

We have snow forecast here too, where are you roughly?

Hope it doesn't cause you any problems.

Have you tried using this ?

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 20/01/2010 02:21

thanks i woke him just now to tell him things were starting he nodded then fell asleep again!

Im in somerset and i dont want to look out the front door in case there is snow!

Ok been timing the pains range between 5-8 mins apart but not lasting long?? Is that usual?? They are getting more painful now though.

God i sound like such a novice, im going to take some paracetamol in a bit see if that helps maybe......

OP posts:
MissWooWoo · 20/01/2010 02:25

oh best of luck!

hobbgoblin · 20/01/2010 02:31

Yes I think (bearing in mind I'm not a midwife but going by experience of 4 labours) that is fairly typical early stage labour.

To begin with they are erratic then they get stronger and longer and more co-ordinated, though the 'pattern' could be 2 long contractions followed by 1 short one, for example - they won't all last the same but a pattern does form.

When they are less than 5 mins apart that DH of yours really does need to wake up!

I'm in Herts and not sure if the snow is coming from you first? Ours isn't due in a big way til lunchtime tomorrow but flurries forecast overnight.

I've not looked out since midnight...

Have you got TENS? If so use it now. Wheatie/hot water bottle is good and bath will either speed up or slow down progress but you won't know til you get in!!

paracetamol sounds a good idea to me

Shall look forward to your news soon.

xx

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 20/01/2010 02:38

thanks! made myself a nice hot drink and think i will roll about on my b irthing ball to ease the back pain, dont have a tens machine seems im fairly un organised!

(for those who are due take spare trousers and knickers when ur examed to see if its waters! dont do what i did and casually think oh well a towel will hold it all cause it wont!)

Took some paracetamol, waters now have a pink tinge to them but just felt baby moving. I cant see how it can happen this fast its only been 6 hours since waters went!

OP posts:
hobbgoblin · 20/01/2010 02:44

pinky is normal

you are so brave - i daren't move when it was my first labour, i NEVER could have let my DH sleep through

best of bestest luck with the hours to come

night!

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 20/01/2010 03:02

night! thanks for your advice!!

IndiMamaJones · 20/01/2010 06:42

How exciting! Hope she's had her baby by now

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 20/01/2010 07:43

well what a wasted night! the contractions seem to have stopped yet they seemed to have a real routine t them!?
I went of to bed having taken some paracetamol and am OK this morning just wish little one would move about a bit more!!

Had a god awful night with this cough. DH has gone of to work now so am alone seeing what happens.

Waters still leaking they pink now, have to go back to hospital this morning for another examination/monitoring thing. Plug not gone yet though?

So ive washed up, stuck the bedding in the machine and shall clean the bathroom in a bit!

Back pain is not good though so shall roll about on my ball too!

thanks ladies x

Don't be disheartened.
That happened to me contractions all day getting a pattern to them then nothing. It bought me a few hours sleep then they started again and ds was born soon after.
