How did your waters go?

Twice now I've had them ruptured by that hook and IIRC it really bloody hurt. If they've never gone naturally before, shall I assume that they won't this time either?

1st time: gushed all over my new slippers in the hospital toilets.

2nd time: broken with a hook at 8cm in labour.

3rd time: burst as baby's head crowned in a bulge and a gush.

I felt a warm gush when I started pushing.

MitsubishiWarrioress · 05/05/2010 19:47

With DS I didn't have any ...

With DD they 'popped' whilst I was playing lego and there was an eggcup full

LittleSilver · 05/05/2010 19:52

In a theme park. Not dignified at all.

lovechoc · 05/05/2010 19:54

when I was lying in bed they went - gush everywhere! Needless to say we got a new bed after that...

Francagoestohollywood · 05/05/2010 20:07

My waters went when I was fully dilated both times. The first time around it shocked me a bit as it was after a massive contraction, I wasn't expecting it!

Rossco · 05/05/2010 20:27

DS1 - SRM at 35 weeks, labour started 10 hours later. I was watching TV, felt a pop and was instantly soaked through as was the couch!

DS 2 - Waters were broken for me during labour. This was the birth that meant CS for me from then on following a shoulder dystocia.

DS 3 & 4 ELSC at 37 weeks and an elective section at 39 weeks.

slushy06 · 05/05/2010 20:36

DS woke up in the middle of the night huge gush and was like a river flowing for about five minutes.

DD MW said waters were slowing dilation so as I was having cc put a finger in and broke them (didn't hurt) she said they were gonna go soon anyway and that they were hanging with every cc (sorry if tmi) did speed things up. But a tiny trickle, egg cup full, cue me panicking about what size of baby was about to come out.

sallyJayGorce · 05/05/2010 20:40

DD1 - broken by midwife a few hours before birth in a long labour - trying to hurry things up. Can't remember what it was like.

DS - when I was standing in the kitchen during transition - planned hb. Big gush about an hour before birth.

DD2 also hb. On the loo and her head followed immediately. All very neat and lovely.

WidowWadman · 05/05/2010 20:44

In several gushes. Kind of wondered whether I had wee'd myself. Green colour didn't help either.

weegiemum · 05/05/2010 21:03

dd1 - ARM after about 30 hours of a 37 hour labour.

ds - I was in bed, "felt" a pop and thouht I'd wet the bed - then realised!! Contractions started soon after.

dd2 - went on 2nd last contraction before the birth, full in the face of the junior doc who was "getting" her deliveries in. Probably put her off obstetrics for good, I think. She was very very posh, dh called her Dr Jolly Hockey Sticks and laughed more than was strictly neccesary!

KatnKankles · 05/05/2010 23:38

It's nice to read these stories as I'm 39 weeks pregnant with my 4th but my waters have never gone naturally.

All 3 times they were broken with a hook, first time was an induction but the others were to speed labour up.

The hook never hurt btw although I had epidurals with the first 2 anyway and the third one was fully dilated and practically pushing so was kind of distraced by other pain!

Wondering if I just have 'tough' waters or whether they'll go naturally this time

jessiealbright · 06/05/2010 00:36

Twins, here.

DT1's waters broke during pushing, for me. (Staff left waters unbroken until then, firstly because I had on/off premature labour, which everyone hoped might stop properly, and secondly to cushion twins as they came out.)

DT2's waters then broke during the second batch of pushing.

'leastways, that's how I remember it.

I also remember that the membrane around the amniotic fluid pinged back as it broke, and hit me. Kind of like a rubber band effect.

lilmamma · 07/06/2010 11:40

had my waters broke by hospital 3 times and never hurt, quite nice sensation actually, baby no4,hind waters popped in bed,i heard a pop and felt damp, not a big gush had no pain so lay there for another hour before waking hubby as it was very early..

Brasso4 · 08/06/2010 19:04

I was sick with every contraction during part of my labour my waters went on one particularly impressive bout of vomiting! (It was proper projectile!) I did not know whether I had wet myself or if my waters had gone! When I was examined in hospital they had in fact gone.

babylann · 09/06/2010 12:01

I had mine broken after 48 hours of contractions, big gush and water everywhere. Also was induced with the hormoney thingymabob. But then, the next day (still in hospital with an epidural) and about 4 internal examinations later, the midwife detected a second bag of water(!) which she promptly popped open (much smaller gush this time).

Didn't help though, had to have EMCS 8 hours later.

SparkleRainbow · 09/06/2010 14:01

With Ds they popped loudly amplified by the baby monitor they had strapped to my tummy. So loudly that it made me jump and I burst into tears.

With dd1 they went after I went to have a wee, at midwife's suggestion. By time I got back to the bed I had delivered her head and the rest followed like lambing, three contractions and out.

with dd2 they went just before birth again, all over my husband's slippers, and milliseconds before the baby's head shot out followed by her body. Not quite as fast as with dd1, but then I was standing up in my bedroom, and she was 9 1/2 lbs and 57 cm long!

MyMamaToldMe · 09/06/2010 14:10

Needed a wee, then heard a pop and then that was it - waters broke and it felt like the longest wee ever.

mummy2t · 09/06/2010 23:11

with dc 1 and 2 waters went with big gush just as i was getting out of bed in the morning. with dc 3 i was stood in the kitchen debating with myself if i was in labour! each time i felt/heard a pop as they went, very strange!! apparently it is not common for your waters to break naturally.

gaelicsheep · 15/06/2010 23:02

Since I've clicked on this I might as well add to it as it's been active fairly recently. Mine went shortly after arriving at hospital, when they were on the verge of sending me home. Huuuge contraction, gush of waters, cue 10 hours of sheer agony. According to my MW labour can be much more painful once the waters have gone. Apparently a "textbook" labour is one where the waters go just before the baby comes out.

katiepotatie · 15/06/2010 23:11

both times with a gush, luckily both times on a towel

Marjee · 15/06/2010 23:27

Felt/heard 2 strange pops, like ds was knocking on my pubic bone just after I got in bed. Went to toilet and had a big gush as I sat down. Cx started 40 mins later. Ds born 3 1/2 hours later
