How did your waters go?

Twice now I've had them ruptured by that hook and IIRC it really bloody hurt. If they've never gone naturally before, shall I assume that they won't this time either?

I thought I was experiencing urine incontinence I had a real urge to go to the loo and felt that I didn't/couldn't stop weeing. Seems strange with hindsight but I really wasn't sure my waters had broken because it wasn't a big gush just a stop-start leak.

Only realised for certain when went to get checked at the birth centre and the wee stick I peed on turned green! Knew something was up then

mylovelymonster · 09/11/2009 21:29

dd1 - hook rupture & slow trickle. 24hrs labour ending in assisted delivery/epidural & the works.

dd2 - yesterday morning (!) quick onset labour. Got to hozzy in time for couple goes on entonox, lots pressure & pain, then big POP and warm torrent followed by baby about 50 mins later on just entonox. Placenta delivered naturally too.

Just goes to show - you can't predict these things. Only thing different between the two was a) I was much bigger second time around (more pressure in uterus?), and b) raspberry leaf tea.

Good luck!

bruffin · 09/11/2009 21:59

Both times a gradual trickle

However when I was in hospital before ds was born I heard a big pop from across the room when another ladies waters broke. I couldn't believe how loud it was.

ilikeyoursleeves · 09/11/2009 22:10

DS1- when I was lying in bed, a big pop and a whoooooosh

DS2- waters EXPLODED in the car when we drove very very quickly over a bump on way to hospital. DS born 10 mins later on a bathroom floor nowhere near the hospital

AmpleBosom · 09/11/2009 22:21

DS1 - In the hospital carpark when i got out of the car, i'd been pushing in the car and he was born 10 minutes later.

DS2 - Whilst in the last 2 minutes of pushing.

DS3 - On the hospital bed whilst i was screaming at the midwife that i was pushing and the baby was coming, after she'd examined me and told me i was 2cms 5 minutes before. He was born 2 minutes later.

When my waters pop i now know it means a baby is coming fast!

mylovelymonster · 11/11/2009 12:10

Wow Amplebosom! Am in awe

With the aid of a fuffing great knitting needle type thing.

rubyslippers · 11/11/2009 12:15

DS1 - they were broken by the MW during labour

DD - they broke spontaneously whilst i was in labour and DD was born 8 minutes later

luckily i was in the birthing pool and was already gearing up to push - she was very quick ...

lucasmama08 · 11/11/2009 12:37

Another vote for the Niagra type rush!

Mine went during my one and only examination. The MW announced 3cm then continued her check at which point my waters broke. I do wonder whether her continued check was carried out with the aim of breaking them as she'd already established how dialated I was. However, it was not at all painful and little one was born 4 hours and 15 mins later so it worked out really well.

I remember being very surprised at how much water came out and for how long. It just seemed to keep on gushing for what felt like ages! In a weird way it did feel kind of nice though It then continued to trickle out a little more with each subsequent contraction for some time afterwards.

snorkie · 11/11/2009 13:51

Mine were ruptured by 'that hook' the first two times, but went spontaneously as the first sign of (early) labour the third time. Only a trickle though as the head was 'plugging' the hole quite well, which was fortunate, as I was in a public place & it would have been dead embarrassing otherwise.

readyfornumber2and3 · 12/11/2009 16:26

DS1- Ruptured with a big gush while I was on the toilet and he was born just over 3 hours later

DTS- was induced and they broke dd's waters with the hook, was uncomfortable but not painful then just before ds2 was born there was a massive pop and I soaked the whole room (especially the consultant stood right infront of me lol) There was that much that dp couldnt get near me as he was holding dd and they wouldnt let him walk about as was so slippy!
They spent a good 10 mins and lots of towels mopping up lol

natapillar · 05/01/2010 00:00

oh gawd now i'm scared after reading some of these posts
DD1- waters were broken in hospital about 10mins before i was told i could start pushing
DD2- waters were broken fairly on in labour as i was getting stressed out and they hoped it would speed things up(it didnt!)
DD3- went in to be induced, which in the end only needed them to break my waters for me.

Baby no.4 due in 3 days- teriffied my waters will need to be broken yet again, but also scared of what it will be like if they go naturally.

mistletoekisses · 05/01/2010 07:36

Went to the loo around midnight and noticed that when I thought I stopped peeing...water was still coming out. Cue confusion and much sniffing of pad to see if i smelt sweet. Fast forward 30 mins and zero confusion, was niagra falls! I was 37 weeks. Am 38+1 in this pregnancy and still nada thus far....

I felt mine go in my sleep....it was a treacle of water running down my leg and straight away I knew I wasn't weeing on myself so I rushed out of bed and made it to the toilet where it gushed out. My hubby was standing over me and I remember saying its happening! There were still loads left inside so I called my midwife and they said to come in. I had to put a pad on b/c everytime I moved I felt like I was weeing on myself as little bits kept coming out. When at the hospital, the midwives told me I had a high water break...didn't know what that meant at the time....but told me to go home and wait until the contractions get worse. My pains felt like period pains at first and then later it got worse and went back to hospital. After that I had baby 36hrs later. Yea I know, high water break means LONG labour!! Apparently my midwife the day b/f pushed my tummy too hard while seeing if the head was engaged and the membranes ruptured a bit. So b/c of all of that, my daughter had a dry birth and got a massive blister on her forehead thats still there but thankfully hidden by her hair.

teegan2008 · 17/01/2010 11:56

Hi there i'm new to your forum, But i'm 30weeks pregnant with my second baby... First baby born at 36 weeks after going into labour but then ending in emergancy c section as she was breach.
At the moment i'm awaiting a scan to check fluid around my baby as i've been leaking for a few weeks, I also had group b in my first pregnancy should I be demanding a scan now from jessops? Or put my trust in them...I've also been in a lot of pain thanks!

tartyhighheels · 17/01/2010 12:40

Number 1 - on the floor of a maternity ward loo whilst being sick. Having gone in for a check up at 36 weeks because I was feeling a bit 'dicky' and was leaking a little. I had just been told by a Consultant to go home because nothing was happening..... Baby was born quite quickly after this. All very undignfied with me wailing, scared out of my wits and covered in sick..

Number 2 - at home in bed on waking at 6.30am with a massive whoosh - labour didn't start until 9.45pm and baby born about 3 hours later at home with very little fuss.

Number 3 - at home about 2 minutes before the baby came out as the Midwife stuck her finger in them when she was poking about.

IWillNotNeverEatATomato · 17/01/2010 12:59

Both times I have woken up in the middle of the night and my bed has become a swimming pool.

because my babies don't ever seem to want to engage until during labour my waters have been huge amounts - no babies head to stop them.

and both times this did not lead to going into labour naturally so have ended up leaking (and occasionally gushing like an incontinent old lady) for a couple of days before being induced

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 17/01/2010 13:08

They were broken with dd to try and speed up labour, it didn't work.

ds1 established labour took 40 mins waterd broke with his head.

ds2 homebirth. Waters broke 12 hours before I went into labour after I had watched that cringeworthy reborn baby doll documentary. They broke in bed. Then I came straight on MN panicking as I didnt expect my waters to go naturally, it's still in the archoves somewhere! They broke with a gush and continued gushing for hours I had alot of water. .

NoahAndTheWhale · 17/01/2010 13:13

With DS I was in hospital due to pre-eclampsia. Had very vivid dream about two snooker balls hitting each over. Had niagra falls type incident on the bed. Told midwife when she came round that I thought my waters had broken. She agreed

With DD I think they were broken while I was in labour. Can't really remember.

Disenchanted3 · 17/01/2010 13:15

looks like someone scaring the hell out of you might work

DUSTIN · 17/01/2010 13:18

With DS the MW broke them to speed up labour but after 18hrs had EMCS.

With DD I had gone to labour ward to be monitored as I had passed a blood clot. I had been on foetal monitor for half an hour and they were going to let me go home as I was due in the next day to have waters broken to try and induce me. Just getting ready to leave with DH when I felt a pop then a gush. I then had really painful contractions the MW checked me after half an hour and I was 9cms dilated. I was ready to push 45mins later but DD got stuck so had to have forceps delivery.

Anifrangapani · 17/01/2010 13:22

DD - tsunami

DS his crown broke them - nearly drowned teh midwife who wsa having a look see at the time

mamakoukla · 17/01/2010 13:30

Felt a 'pop' and quickly rolled off the sofa where I was having a little nap. Only a little dribble (was told that the child's head sometimes comes down and acts like a stopper).

pigleychez · 17/01/2010 16:07

I was in hospital having started an induction and hour earlier.
Tummy felt really uncomfortable and tight, then a pop and a huge gush of water! It was exactly midnight!
I buzzed the MW and told her I thought they had just gone, to be told "oh i dont think so dear". She suddenly realised the bed was dripping onto the floor and said "ohh, i guess you were right then!" Either that or one hell of a wee with no bladder control!!

DD didnt appear for another 27 hours though!
