Not a homebirther personally but wanting to offer support to Boobz and others who are going for a home birth . . .

Fantastic news Gemzooks, congratulations! Hope my birth is as speedy as yours!

gingersarah · 23/03/2009 09:33

Congratulations. Gemzooks!

This thread is a very inspiring place to be at the moment.

mamasmurf · 23/03/2009 11:05

congratulations boobz your story and pics have me crying too. Penelope looks so peaceful and content. What a team the Boob family are.

Congratulations to gemhooks too. Enjoy

mootie · 23/03/2009 13:47

Hurray, what a lovely baby! Well done for hanging in there. I had no pain relief for DD and am hoping for a homebirth with no2, but have been getting a bit nervous about not having access to pain relief just in case. But after seeing what you have managed to deal with, I feel much better!
Enjoy your little one!

Hersetta · 23/03/2009 14:07

Boobz,

felt compelled to write my sincere congrats on your beautifull baby daughter as I had a 5.5 day latent labour with no sleep which was possibly the worst days of my life. Mine ended up with EMCS but so glad yours ended well and you got the HB you wanted.

leakyR · 23/03/2009 19:20

Congratulations Gemzooks!

Boobz - Penelope looks beautiful and your birth story was very moving. Got a lump in my throat and misty eyed reading it.

Boobz · 23/03/2009 21:55

Thank you Leaky! And Fearless and Hersetta - and everyone! I wish I had the time now to reply to everyone individually, but I can't.. Am typing this one handed cuddling Pen and it's hard to keep track of everyone's amazing support and well-wishing posts - suffice it to say you were the best support squad a first timer could have.

And fanstastic news Gemzooks! I'm so glad you got your HB too. Such a fabulous feeling, isn't it?

Oh, and a couple more photos on my profile - both with DH.

kanga5 · 23/03/2009 22:53

Boobz i just wanted to add that as your story is so inspiring and your research goes back from your early pregnancy, that I think you could get it published as a book. It would be an inspiration for first timers like yourself, and it was so interesting that it was done as a chat forum. In addition you and Mr boobz show a descriptive turn of phrase that only added to the whole thing.

just thought I'd say it!!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 24/03/2009 07:27

boobz....please can i be added to the list? i know i was a bit back in the day now but the thread was a lifeline back then too
xx

Bumpsadaisie · 24/03/2009 08:38

Hello Boobz and everyone

What great photos - the one of your DH and Penelope is particularly gorgeous.

Could I join in the thread and be added to the list?

Bumpsadaisie, first DC (little girl), hoping for a home waterbirth (if she turns round the right way in time), due 31 May (30 weeks now), live in Cambridge.

Cheers
Bumpsx

titmouse · 24/03/2009 16:56

OOOO I am next on the list, how exciting. Anybody feel free to jump ahead of me!

Having some twinges today, I know baby is engaged and ready as I had a 40-week check this morning. So I am hoping it is nearly time to get this home birth underway. We've got all the stuff ready, I've written husband a list of things that he/we need to do when labour starts e.g covering furniture, floors, sorting out the heating and cleaning the bath etc and I think we are ready. I guess we will find out how ready soon enough!

good luck to everybody else who is waiting for their birthing experience to start xxxx

sheenaisapunkrocker · 24/03/2009 17:12

Hello everyone,
this thread is fab isn't it? Please may I join the list cos I'm just so inspired by the stories, support and positivity here.

I'm due 2nd August, 1st DC, hoping for home water birth in West Yorkshire.

xx.

titmouse · 24/03/2009 17:23

welcome sheena I came late to this thread but it has been really helpful, I hope your pregnancy goes well and that the next few months are kind to you!

JustKeepSwimming · 24/03/2009 21:55

Titmouse - good luck to you! (will you have a birth thread? please, pretty please )

titmouse · 24/03/2009 22:08

I will do my best
thank you I will let you know when stuff starts happening. Baby very quiet tonight after several nights of thrashing around like nobody's business so I am wondering if this is the calm before the storm - no other signs so far though!

JustKeepSwimming · 25/03/2009 06:02

I look forward to it Titmouse

Good luck anyway and hope something happen for you soon....

Whiteybaby · 25/03/2009 06:59

Hi everyone. I have been a career lurker on the first timers homies pages and did pop up briefly a few weeks ago and benefitted hugely from some great support when I was having a bit of a wobble! Just thought that you might like to hear that my dd arrived at 5pm Monday evening about 9 hour labour! Boobz we are polar topposites, I dilate at warp speed but pushed for HOURS! In the end everything got a bit too swollen (her and me) so we went to hospital for ventous. Ambulance ride was interesting to say the least, she nearly arrived on the bypass and will be a memory neither dh nor i will forget in a hurry! no pain relief until gas in ambulance and local in hosp. few stitches but don't think its major. I would say to any of you contemplating it that imo for a straightforward pregnancy and if you are comfortable to be able to get to hospital quick enough if needed HB is the best idea ever. I am positive that my experience would have been very very different if I had been on a delivery ward! I had to spend the night MOnday night which was horrid and am now very glad to report we have just survved our first night at home! If you are interested I had a birthing post going and really benefitted from MN support through the night when DH was left to sleep! Good luck to all those due, anticipating,,, you will be great. "look at www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childbirth/726264-anyone-out-there-to-tell-me-this-isn-39-t?msgid=14810431. Boobz my dh and i are in awe of you (i told him all about you!) and Gemzooks, you really help those few weeks back. Congratulations on your new little one.

soundbites · 25/03/2009 12:40

Can I join too? Already 'met' titmouse on another thread. Am booked in for HB and DH has been vacillating, but I think that (for today at least!) we are going for it. 38 weeks tomorrow and excited at the prospect of being at home.

Boobz · 27/03/2009 09:52

Thank you Bumpsadaisie for the compliment on DH and Penelope's photo - they are quite the handsome pair, no? But then I am biased .

Whitey - congratulations on the arrival of your DD - do you have a name yet? I'm not sure which side of the fence I would rather be on, in terms of speedy dilation vs speedy pushing, but in the end I guess we both got the same result - beautiful daughters! Why was the overnight stay in hospital so horrible? Which hospital was it? Anyway - I will go and have a read of your birth thread when I have a little more time over the weekend (have in-laws arriving this afternoon for first visit to first grandchild!)

How are we doing titmouse? Any more signs?

Pen is going great guns ? just finished a feed and she is sleeping on my lap. Am totally in love. Just to share a funny DH moment, we were in John Lewis yesterday, buying bras as none of mine fit properly, and we stopped by the baby dept to buy a baby monitor. I passed the newborn clothes section and saw this darling pretty dress (very 1930's inspired - chique girly type dress) and picked it up and said to DH "what about getting her this for the Wetting the Baby's Head party at the pub on Sunday?" and I think DH suddenly realised that Penelope really is a full on girl (we were both convinced she was going to be a boy) - and she's only been wearing white babygros since we've had her... and so it finally occured to him that he would be dressing our beautiful baby in girly girl clothes... he started to tear up again, bless him.

Anyway, wanted to share that (maybe should have gone to post natal thread?)... sorry if it's all a bit soppy.

Can't wait to hear about all your LO's birth stories and soppy moments - HURRY UP and have your babies dammit!

Am updating the list to add in GirlWithTheMouseyHair who had her beautiful son last year and was on this thread from the beginning... she was a huge inspiration to me when she got her lovely homebirth (with my midwife no less!) and I feel we really have gone through this whole process together. So, just for posterity, here?s your name in lights darling:

Hello everyone [waves shyly].

Have just read through this thread for the first time and am all teary and emotional (fortunately at home today rather than at work!). What lovely stories, huge congratulations to all the new mums !

Can I join in? I'm hoping for a home VBAC this time round, due on 1 June, so 30ish weeks now, got one DD already born Sep07. Was aiming for a HB last time, but went to 42 weeks and was bullied advised into being induced, had a horrible experience with lots of problems culminating in DD in NICU for 10 days and me in the wards with other probs for the same time, so am really really keen for a nice HB this time round! Fingers crossed, and looking forward to reading lots of inspirational birth stories from you ladies due before me

Boobz · 27/03/2009 16:33

Also, kept meaning to thank Jollyjoanne for starting this thread - but kept forgetting. So thanks JJ... xxx

leakyR · 27/03/2009 22:34

Just read Whitey's birth thread and wanted to say congratulation and thanks for sharing your story.

Boobz lovely to hear your Pen and dh story. Making me feel all soppy and excited about my own new arrival coming in May.
