My ex-boss used to be a midwife, and she confirmed that she did have some women who gave birth and the pain was no more than moderate period pain. Don't know if that counts?

Not heard of a completely painless labour. Have heard of women who have thought they've had food poisoning - stomach cramps etc and have given birth. John Travolta's wife apparently gave birth in total silence, something to do with their religion it seems.

One of the girls i work with didn't know she was pg and one day was saying had really bad period pains 4pm that day ryan was born. and she didn't know she was pg

My aunt said it was like farting. She only had 1 child though....that to me ruins it.
If it was that easy she would have had 10.

umm can't say my second labour was totally painless but i only had pain when i was ready to push.

my friend did,the mw kept saying to her "oh come on you must have felt that contraction!!!" but she didn't feel a thing,lucky cow ,she only had the one as well

my auntie has 2 children and gave birth to both with not even a murmur!! (my mum was at both births)

One of my clients-who seems quite sane-told me that it was truely the most fabulous experience of her life and completely pain free.I was expecting my first child at time so may have been a well meant lie. Every time I see her now I think about it though and itch to ask if she was telling the truth

With my third once I'd gone into another world & was making strange noises with the constant contractions I was fine. Felt that it wasn't me giving birth but a process taking place. No pain with the head being born or the rest! The only thing I felt was preassure beforehand but this didn't hurt. No tears or anything just a straight forward birth. The trick for me was to give myself over to what was happening & just go with it. Not being tense but relaxing with contractions. Labour very quick though & had a birth supporter. Had a pph straight afterwards & I thought here is something worse than childbirth.

i had period like cramps and felt a bit icky but not too horrendous and i was induced and whole thing over in hr and half

This is a good question. I almost died through loss of blood the first time & was in labour for 12 hours but never felt more than bad period pains. The 2nd time was a scheduled c-section & I have never been so scared. Not ever. I was certain I was going to die. Seems silly now. The worst pain was the sciatica I had after my 2nd baby was born. It was terrible & nothing could be done to stop it. I've never admitted my painless childbirths to anyone because I was too ashamed... as if you can only be a good mother if you experience pain! Funny old world, isn't it?

I have witnessed a totally "noise" free birth, I have also had a client in no pain until she was told she was 8cm... and I know someone who had an orgasm (yes!) as she gave birth.....

You're right prunegirl, I had my epidural on the block for 2nd birth. So absolutely no pain. Just terror. Four women were delivered in an hour so I could hear what was happening ahead of me. It was like a bloody conveyer belt! I hated it. Private clinic (Swiss) as well. Unbelievable.

maybe it's just like some people have all the tastebuds and love all flavours whereas some are made differently and can only handle basic tastes....only thing I can liken it too...as I had both my labours without any pain relief and can safely say it would not have been painless had I thought about it and gone with the flow...I guess some people are lucky, some not..

And yes, you are judged but not outright. Apparently many women who have epidurals & c-sections are considered "wimps". My sister was delighted to inform me that she gave birth on her yoga mat with no assistance.

Had epidural for first - again a quick delievry but before the epidural pain was undescribable . Had cs for second - very scary & pain later. third felt fine! Think it's a matter of how the baby is inside & for me being able to completely depend on my birth support & some just go with it. Hate the idea of pain relief being for wimps. If someone needs pain relief then they need it & should have it without feeling bad. If a mother gets through labour ok & baby ok then this is the best situation not if you've had pain relief or whatever.

Precisely, milward. BTW, dh almost passed out when my 1st epidural was given and had to be wheeled out!

What is wrong with making a noise when giving birth ffs???

I sang at the top of my voice (very choice words) with ds!
'Enjoyed' would be too strong a word to explain the experience... but 'coped' throughout the whole thing (in the hallway with ambulance crew)is perhaps better.

Painfree... no way.. but on a comparitive level (to dd) it was sooooo much better for me.

I know unicorn, weird or what!? I read it in an interview he gave and he was bragging about it. Hopefully she sent him off for the "two bricks" treatment afterwards, without anaesthetic and insisted he was silent

Well 2nd labour was very easy but wouldn't call it pain free. It hurt - quite a lot actually - but only for half an hour at the end.
