I got to 5cm not knowing I was in active labour, 8cm with gas & air then epidural for high blood pressure management. I can confirm it does not numb everywhere so still intense pain at the end but was short lived. Also had a second degree tear but it was fine overall and healed well. The whole experience was a blur to me / out of body experience but definitely I would overall say it was very positive. I went with no big expectations or specific birth plan. Took on the medical advice when necessary and it was overall very smooth. Obviously no labour is the same but sometimes you only hear the horror stories.

I’m so sorry the epidural didn’t numb everything for you. I think it sometimes doesn’t work unfortunately. It definitely numbed completely for me. No pain, it was bliss!
