If your first baby was late, was your second?

My DD was 12 days past her due date before she came, I'm pregnant again and wondering if I'm in for a long wait again

What was your experience?

BendingSpoons · 26/11/2024 19:05

Mine were both 8 days overdue.

FrannyScraps · 26/11/2024 19:06

No, 10 days late and 10 days early.

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 26/11/2024 19:06

My second was bang on due date, while the first was 14 days late.

river12 · 26/11/2024 19:08

First one a few days late, second one came a few days early

My first baby was early. My second was late. Both "normal" births, for want of a different expression. Babies arrive when they arrive unless there's an intervention such as planned labour/caesarian for some reason in my experience.

MindBodySoul · 26/11/2024 19:08

1st - 10 days late

2nd - 2 days early

Moriquendi · 26/11/2024 19:09

First - Induced at 13 days late.
Second - 10 days late

kc92 · 26/11/2024 19:10

1st - induced at 41 weeks exactly. 2nd - spontaneous labour at 40+3. I did a ton of reflexology & optimal fetal positioning exercises 2nd time though, to avoid induction.

Interesting responses so far!

My mum was meant to be my childcare for my 3yo but has booked a holiday to Portugal when I'm 38-39 weeks

Everyone is just assuming baby will be late, but I'm hoping she's earlier because I'm quite uncomfortable

Nope. 1st was day before 42 weeks, 2nd was a nearly 39 weeks, 3rd was slightly before that...and 4th was day before 42 weeks again and well over a pound heavier than all the others (the other three had 1-2 ounces differences).

MatchsticksForMyEyesReturns · 26/11/2024 19:14

Mine were both induced after 14 days. The wait felt interminable.

JaninaDuszejko · 26/11/2024 19:14

1st - 1 week late
2nd - 3 days late
3rd - 4 weeks early

ElsaLion · 26/11/2024 19:16

Yes, my son was 8 days overdue, and my daughter was six days overdue.

kc92 · 26/11/2024 19:16

@RedRobyn2021 my mum did the exact same!! 😂 Went for a lovely sunny break when I was 38-39 weeks. I couldn't put into words at the time how annoyed I was, but I spent the last month in a panic over childcare.

iamthefox · 26/11/2024 19:17

1st - 8 days late

I was CONVINCED my second baby was coming earlier, because I was so uncomfortable for so long, I almost felt like the baby would drop out of me at any given moment such was the pressure and discomfort. 😅 More fool me, both my babies were born 4 days overdue.

Coconutter24 · 26/11/2024 19:17

Have you got a back up plan for childcare?

My first was 6 days late and second was 7days late

I'm having a home birth again, if I have to go into hospital for some reason then her dad will need to stay with her and I will go alone!

The idea was my mum would have her in the day and/or overnight whilst I laboured, but if she's not here 🤷🏻‍♀️

I do have a mum friend whose offered to help, but I would only take her up on the offer if it's during daylight hours, she has her own kids and I wouldn't want to bother her at night

I was exactly the same, I struggled walking with the second she was so low it was very uncomfortable and midwives told me to prepare for her coming 2 weeks early!! She didn’t she was a week late

Justnippinginthegaragelove · 26/11/2024 19:22

10 days late, 1 day early

It's typical isn't it

I am quite annoyed tbh, why commit to helping then do that?

I feel like she couldn't have done more with my first but she's less bothered about my second, even though I need help more than ever as I have my daughter now too

I was induced with DD1 as she was 14 days overdue. DD2 was only 3 days late.

Though I was in denial about my waters breaking, leading to a bit of a mad rush to the hospital in a taxi. 😂

RedRobyn2021 · 26/11/2024 19:24

@Heidi2018

I feel like she's going to burst out my stomach tbh and I walk the dog twice a day but it feels a lot harder work than with my first
