If your first baby was late, was your second?

My DD was 12 days past her due date before she came, I'm pregnant again and wondering if I'm in for a long wait again

What was your experience?

It's typical isn't it

I am quite annoyed tbh, why commit to helping then do that?

I feel like she couldn't have done more with my first but she's less bothered about my second, even though I need help more than ever as I have my daughter now too

I get the frustration and my mother in law did the same with our second.

My mum lives far away from us and had offered to look after DD1. So my worry was going into labour in the early hours of the morning. We ended up having a calendar of people who she could go to if she arrived on X date.

I would ask around your friends, people are often more willing than you think to take in an extra child for a bit. People that we don't know v. well we're offering to take her in. I would also advise having a few people on standby in case you can't get hold of your first choice. Anything to keep your stress levels down whilst in labour.

1st 11 days late, 2nd 11 days early.

I'd make other arrangements tbh

Janella · 26/11/2024 19:42

Yes 1st was 3 days late, 2nd was 5 days late

CoodleMoodle · 26/11/2024 19:43

DD was born at 40+6 and took bloody hours... DS was born at 38+5 and shot out like a rocket!

Fridgetapas · 26/11/2024 20:00

DS1 - 10 days late
DS2 - 9 days late (was really cross that he was almost just as late as everyone had promised me second ones come quicker!)

User28473 · 26/11/2024 20:06

First was 5 days post due date, next two were 5 days before due date.

User28473 · 26/11/2024 20:12

What time of day did you go into labour with your first? I find that tends to be consistent. The most common is for labour to stay evening or through the night. All of mine have started in the morning though, which was handy, as I also had home births and it made childcare easier as we didn't need any.

hennybeans · 26/11/2024 20:28

Mine were:
10 days late ( induced)
5 days early
20 days early

I think the difference can be explained a fair bit by having a very relaxing end of first pregnancy, lots of rest, no stress. Second and third ( especially third) I was very busy looking after small dc and hardly sat down.

MammaKel · 26/11/2024 20:28

No, 1st baby was very comfortable and 2nd baby was born at 36 weeks.

Hm I was having contractions in the early hours and sleeping between them, I had quite a long latent phase and then suddenly I went from 3cm to pushing her out within the hour

I gave birth at 7:30pm

It was funny because we said all along it would be nice if she arrived in time for dinner haha

iwishihadaname · 26/11/2024 20:38

Nc546888 · 26/11/2024 22:20

I know you’ve asked for late babies but wanted to say my first was 38+4 and second baby I knew would come at a similar time I just felt it. Baby came 38+5

pregnant again and think it will be a similar week

Dyra · 27/11/2024 09:33

@RedRobyn2021 @kc92 I'm not sure if I'm glad to hear other people's mums did the same thing or dismayed that so many are so bloody unthinking. Nope. Definitely the latter. I know should my own kids have their own, I'm blocking out 4 weeks either side of their due date for child care.

Fortunately(!) I needed a second early induction, so she could have done it. But nope. She got COVID and completely refused to help at all. Luckily my in-laws, despite living over 2 hours away, stepped in for the two weeks I was in hospital.

My sister's first was induced and eventually came at 42+1. Her second was due to be induced, but she went into labour naturally on the day at 41+3.

LimeYellow · 27/11/2024 09:36

DC1 - 8 days late
DC2 - 7 days late
DC3 - 3 days early

kc92 · 27/11/2024 11:56

@Dyra gah I just can't imagine doing the same to my kids. 🙈 Total attitude of "well my generation managed so why can't you". Glad your in laws could help in the end - two weeks in the hospital sounds rough.

user2848502016 · 27/11/2024 11:57

Yes mine were 5 days and then 2 days overdue.

aintnospringchicken · 27/11/2024 13:05

DC1 4 days overdue
DC2. 3 days overdue

longtompot · 27/11/2024 14:04

1st was 10 days late
2nd was 5 days early
3rd was 2 months early!

Matilda1981 · 27/11/2024 14:07

12 days late
8 days late
14 days late
14 days late

All apart from the second came with the threat of an induction being booked!!

Dyra · 27/11/2024 14:32

Yeah. A little mean bit of me wonders if this was her protest about not being in the delivery room this time. Not that she could have been anyway because COVID rules were still in place. But she is pretty bad at thinking things through at the best of times. I think she just heard the word "holiday" and didn't even stop to consider that even though she had agreed to be childcare there was a chance I could have the baby in that week as both my sister's kids had been late and I had been induced early first time.

DecayingRelic · 27/11/2024 14:35

all 3 of mine were very late🙄

iwishihadaname · 27/11/2024 14:35

iwishihadaname · 26/11/2024 20:38

First one late by 5 days
second one 14 days early
third one 13 days early
larst one labour started on due date

should say third one 13 days late

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 27/11/2024 14:42

Dd1 a week late. Has to be induced/?c section.

dd2 My waters broke 12 days early. Arrived 9 hours later. Totally different experience.

I was worried too that dd2 would be late and have to have an induction again.

Greenfinch7 · 27/11/2024 14:48

Yes- all 3 were 2 weeks late, more or less. That seemed to be what my body thought was right.
