How much did you weigh at birth? And how much did your first baby weigh?

Me: 7 lbs 1 oz; dd: 8 lbs 1 oz

I was 8lb 2oz
Ds 8lb 2oz
Both of us 2 weeks overdue.
Both mums (me and my mum) had long labours and assisted deliveries and both had post natal infections.
The similarities were really freaky.

Those of you with babies who were quite a lot bigger than yourselves though, do you think there's a similar difference between yourselves and your mothers as adults? I'm still wondering about babies getting bigger at a faster rate than adults. I know it's kind of hard to quantify-- I have no idea how tall I was at birth, and I don't think I could get my mum to reveal her current weight to me on pain of death!

Oh, and Dolores, I remember when I was pregnant the midwife asked what kind of birth my mum had and when I told her she said, "Well that's the kind of birth you'll have." And she was not far off right, though not as identical as in your case. (I was forceps and dd was ventouse )

And as an adult my Mum is bigger than me (3 inches taller, bigger frame etc). My DC are both average to small now at ages 7 and 4. My nephew was also 9 lb 10 which was a bit of a co-incidence. Also my Mum and my sister and I have all had heaviest first babies. My other nephew was 2 lb lighter than his older brother. Dsis and I agreed that it makes for an easy time second time round.

Me -around 8lb's (no contact with mother so I have to go by dad's estimate memory.

Apparently my birth was so fast dad caught me (i remember hearing that from my mother also)

Ds 1 -27 hrs (ventouse as was distressed)
Ds 1 - 12 hrs (forceps as he was stuck)

My birth was nothing like my children's apparently.

I am the same build as my mother (7 yeras last seen her though but she can't have chanhed her height!) ) and I am only just slightly taller than her. I think this had an impact on my children's births as they were big for my height -5ft 3 -so much so ds 2 got stuck. If I were to have anymore I would definately want a c-section.

She was a size 8-10 as am I (mormal weight ds 2 only 6 months so nearly back to mormal weight. A size 10 atm)

She had PND after having me -baby no 3. I had PND after having ds 1.

Lots of similarities but also clear differences.

I was 5lb 13oz, DD was 7lb 6oz, but I think a lot of the difference is down to me being HUGELY overweight during my pregnancy (was 23 stone a week after the birth at ft 3in) and diabetic because of that, whereas when my mum had me she was back into her size 10 jeans a week later.

both my dh and i mums had pre eclampsia with us, my dd1 i had gest diabetes and pre eclampsia with hence weight difference! i developed pre eclampsia with ds1 and dd2 as well!
