Ok they've always been broken before me at the end of labour they have just gushed when I was in bed and more now i'm out of bed. Luckily I put one of those mat pads on bed as I had a feeling. No pains as yet just feel rather taken aback and shakey! Waters are clear i'm having a homebirth do I ring mw or do I just wait until I get pain. Think i'm a bit in shock. I can't stop shaking!

Have you had any contractions

MrsClausinJimmyChoos · 03/01/2008 00:53

Ring midwife and see what she says - always best to have their advice. Good that the waters are clear though...

Oooh...sounds promising!! All the best!

Tinker · 03/01/2008 00:53

Oooh, fingers crossed. Think it's more likely to happen like this 2nd time around and when lying down (more pressure or something) Hope someone more useful than me comes on.

hunkermunker · 03/01/2008 00:53

Get a pad first and put it in your knickers.

Then breathe.

Then ring the midwife.

Ledodgy · 03/01/2008 00:55

It's my third! Ok i'll ring mw thank you. Breathe. Have towel round me toga like as water is lots.

oooh very excited for you ledodgy.

think the usual advice is to wait until teh contractions start, as long as its not too long after the waters break you should be ok.

but ring midwife to make sure.

Niecie · 03/01/2008 00:58

Oh I had that - waters breaking and no pain for 9 hours with DS1. Definitely get checked by the mw. They like to monitor you to make sure that you don't go too long before going into labour as there is a risk of infection.

I wanted to be sure it was my waters too and that I hadn't just wet myself!

Good luck. Hope it all gets going soon.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 03/01/2008 00:59

Oooh how exciting Ledodgy! Good luck! You'll have him/her by morning! Do you know what you're having?

Ring MW as contractions will start shortly. My first was like this (poss bit unusual as subsequent 2, water broken manually with surgical crochet hook.. as you do.. )

Thining of you as I go to bed!

drivinmecrazy · 03/01/2008 01:01

Am soo jealous. My waters had to be broken with both my girls, I felt bit cheated I never got the gush, always wanted it to happen in supermarket. GOOD LUCK. OOH you are making me broody - lucky DH is away tonight

Tinker · 03/01/2008 01:01

My waters exploded all over the midwife 2nd time round.

Do you know what you're having? How fast were your previous labours???

OverRated · 03/01/2008 01:02

My labour started with waters breaking.

We called the dr and they said to wait until contractions began and were 3 mins apart & lasting 1 min. That happened within 10 minutes

Ledodgy · 03/01/2008 01:05

Ok mw is on her way my last labour was only 40 mins established but I had a day of warning pains before hand! Getting back ache now think i'm panicking everything feels really surreal tell me i'll be ok!

hunkermunker · 03/01/2008 01:06

Labour started with DS1 like this. Not a twinge initially, just a gush.

DS2 they went 5 minutes before he was born, as I stood next to bed in hospital. Funnily enough, someone came through the door with a mop and bucket at that very moment and said, "I believe you have a puddle" because the birthing pool had gone mad and sprayed all over the floor.

Ledodgy, what did midwife say? Any contractions yet? Stay upright and circle your hips (until Marsy or Lulumama get here and tell you any different anyway!).

hunkermunker · 03/01/2008 01:07

You'll be fine, my love.

You've done this twice before.

What are you having, do you know? Apart from a baby, obv.

Honestly, you're fine. Have you got anyone with you?

Aitch · 03/01/2008 01:07

my waters broke and my contractiosn still took a while to start. ring the midwife and try to get some sleep.

it's so EXCITING!

MAMAZON · 03/01/2008 01:12

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 03/01/2008 01:14

You'll be ok Ledodgy!! You will, you will!

I'm too excited to get to bed now!

Could you please ask MW if she could delivery while you crouch near computer? Thank you please. You need to get your priorities right here!

Tinker · 03/01/2008 01:16

Aargh, I need to go to bed as well. If you deliver on all fours you can type and push at the same time I think. Good luck.
