Waters went 60 hours ago

Hi has anyone any advice please
Waters went on Monday evening but wasn't contracting so was sent home for 24 hours I returned to the hospital and they put a pessary in 30 hours after waters had gone and I was 3cm dilated it got taken out at 2.30am this morning but apparently there are no beds on delivery ward I haven't been checked since to see if things are progressing just given tablets for the pain as my contractions are now 5 mins apart I cant stand and can't sit down because of the pain but no-one seems to be interested how much longer will they leave me 😢

I thought they shouldn't let you go beyond 24 hours from your waters breaking due to risk of infection? I'm sure thats what the doctor told me

My advice is to kick up a fuss particularly around infection, did they swab your for Group B Strep when they went? Go back in and insist that they do, you absolutely should not be left without any protection against infection, good luck x

Make a fuss and speak with the staff don't worry about making a nuisance of yourself

No swabs taken they just keep saying I have to wait for a bed to be available I'm so fed up and in pain 😫

Can you call your community midwife or another hospital? Not to worry you but 60 hours is a long time to leave your baby exposed, they need to test you at least

You need to escalate this OP, DD was born last January so pre covid and I was kept in the hospital to check for infections because she was born 48 hours after my waters broke - I even had to stay one week after with her so that she could stay on antibiotics. I get that there's more strain because of covid but they need to take this seriously.

All the midwife is saying is that labour ward is busy so they can't give me a time Im thinking because of my age (21) they think they can just fob me off

Hi OP hope you are being better looked after now. Stay up right if you can and walk around, gravity can help progress the pregnancy. I think you might need to start complaining. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. Do you have some one in hospital with you who can complain on your behalf. Monday is a long time to have waters broken. Good Luck with this.

Hi OP yes keep finding them so they don't prioritise someone else. I don't know who you could escalate this to after a Midwife. Is there a sister on the ward? Have you got your partner or your Mum to go out getting you some attention?

They can't leave you at risk of infection because of a lack of beds, they need to prioritise, my waters went and I was left 48 hours as a first time mum, didn't stand up for myself being fobbed off and we ended up staying in hospital due to us both needing infections treating after

Bless you op. I would keep mentioning the risk of infection. Tbh i would also be saying i would like to make a complaint.

Even if they havent got a delivery room free they still need to look after you and baby. One of my dc was delivered in a tiny triage room as no delivery rooms were availble

Ask to speak to the lead midwife and make a
Bloody big fuss they are leaving you open to infection and leaving you in pain which is not right. if they have no room on labour ward then they need to put you on the normal ward for pain relief and monitoring of baby. If they still won't listen just turn up they have to see you then. Or if you have another hospital local call them for. 2nd option

They have given me codiene my partner is with me and has asked to speak to someone higher
I wish my mum was here she would be making a royal fuss but because of covid I'm only allowed 1 person with me

When my waters broke I was told that I had absolute max 48 hours before induction. I ended up being induced around 36 hours later and was put straight onto the drip rather than other methods to save time. Therefore it seems wrong that they would happily leave you for 3 days. I agree with PPs, make a fuss about infection risk and ask them how they are planning to manage/monitor that. If you have a good community midwife you could try calling her for advice.

I know it is worrying for you, but surely they are checking you and baby are not becoming unwell.
Just a thought but if it’s busy then they may not physically have a room or a midwife to look after you.

Sometimes you need to be the person shouting loudest to be heard. I was stuck in hospital at the end of my last pregnancy waiting to be to be taken into labour ward and it wasn't until I packed my bags and was walking (waddling) out I was suddenly seen by doctors and things got moving.

Make sure to tell them you want it noted in your notes that your waters broke 60hours ago and they’re refusing to move you to delivery ward. It’s potentially very dangerous for you and baby to leave you so long. Have they been checking your temperature? Sounds awful poor thing.

Far too long

Please get someone to kick up an almighty fuss it is not recommended to go this long I also thought 24 hours after waters breaking was the max you were left without intervention
