Do you think I’ll go into labour tonight?

It’s my third baby, I’m 38 weeks + 5. Had sweep today at 9ish 2cm dilated, cervix soft and MW could feel baby head. Just had show. Done back pain and cramps but nothing regular yet. Babysitter on standby!!!

Well I thought last night was the night, had painful contractions in the top of my stomach and back every 10-15 minutes, so went to bed to see if I could get some rest and I've pretty much stopped 😢

willitbetonight · 27/06/2020 11:14

Pains are there all the time but not ramping up at all. Have got weird desire to hoover though 🤣🤣

willitbetonight · 27/06/2020 11:18

This is so exciting. Loads of us thinking we are going into labour!!!! I'm so hot and bothered I just want it to happen now. Might go for a walk......

willitbetonight · 27/06/2020 11:18

I'm over 40 too so booked for a sweep on Wednesday. Hoping to get it going on my own before then.

kemosabeimalone · 27/06/2020 11:39

Willitbe I’d put money on you giving birth this weekend I think the fact they are coming even when you are resting is really telling. Those contractions can do a lot to open the cervix without you feeling huge amounts of pain you may be half way dilated before your really aware of being in active labour - have you checked your cervix yourself? Fingers crossed!

This article is really interesting to tell how things are progressing:

Still firmly stuck. Juggling all day but not proper contractions. I put the crib together today so hoping that will get it started.

willitbetonight · 27/06/2020 23:37

Thank you for sharing that article. I'm trying to pluck up the courage to have a rummage. I know that I was 2cm at 35 weeks (I'm almost 38 now).

MooChops89 · 28/06/2020 11:00

Still pregnant over here Sad have had 4 sweeps now, last one was promising and I'd made some progress but nothing is happening! Have had a few lots of show over the last week. I think I'm thinking about it too much and willing it to happen too hard but it's so hard not to think about it when every move is hard work! Everyone keeps telling me to have sex but I just can't face it, my poor DH Grin

kemosabeimalone · 28/06/2020 11:27

Oh Moo your poor thing - I’m really hoping it happens for you very soon. I’m
Seeing the MW tomorrow morning for sweep number 2. I’ll be 38+3.

Moo I hope things get moving for you soon. I'm 38 weeks tomorrow and booked for a sweep on Wednesday. Barely sleeping now as it's rumbling constantly. Just been for a long walk. Has anyone else got stabbing pains in their vagina?

kemosabeimalone · 28/06/2020 15:38

I had stabbing pains earlier this week - like pinching in my cervix.

MooChops89 · 28/06/2020 17:14

Yeah all the time, especially when he moves or I stand up!

willitbetonight · 28/06/2020 19:24

I've got general pelvic pain now. No tightening at all but a lot of pressure and I feel saddle sore like I've ridden a bike for 20 miles.

My husband is running round like a panicked rabbit. I've been to sleep for about 2 hours this afternoon (not like me at all) and generally feel quite insular now. Baby is very active.

OP my third was a very easy birth. Hospital didn't believe I was in labour when I arrived but I just knew and insisted on being allowed into the birthing suite. I had my son within 30 minutes with minimum intervention. My 4th was also very easy (at home). This time it's like my body doesn't know what it's doing and I keep getting twinges and then nothing happens. I was admitted at 35 weeks with contractions 2 minutes apart (not particularly painful though) and then just didn't progress.

willitbetonight · 28/06/2020 19:30

Did you have a baby @Flumo?

Flumo · 28/06/2020 21:36

No unfortunately not, 40 weeks on tuesday will be having a 3rd sweep. After my second I lost my plug over 3 days but that was over a week ago now! Hopefully this one will do something 🤞 hope people start having these little ones soon.

kemosabeimalone · 29/06/2020 13:52

How’s everyone doing? I’m back from MW after very thorough sweep (#2). 3cm now so let’s see. 3rd sweep booked for Thursday if needed.

Cat is being majorly huffy with me and doesn’t want me to stroke him - do you think it’s a sign?! Grin

Ah I love a birth thread. I am a student midwife following with much anticipation!
Good luck to all of you, I will be thinking about you all!

Flumo · 29/06/2020 18:46

My cat was like that on friday/Saturday when I was feeling contractions but is absolutely obsessed with me the last 2 days. Even brought me a little live mouse to chase about this morning 😹

willitbetonight · 30/06/2020 17:12

No baby here yet. Had a very uncomfortable night. I've gone a bit crazy on the cleaning this afternoon hoping that will encourage things along. I'm due my first sweep tomorrow. Any news from anyone else? X

kemosabeimalone · 01/07/2020 07:41

Morning - how is everyone? Good luck for your sweep today Willitbe.

Nothing really changed here - 3rd sweep tomorrow AM. Only little signal that things might be progressing is that I’ve had a missive poo today (sorry tmi!.). Such a relief as I was quite constipated. Also morning sickness is back again but I’ve been having that on and off throughout the pregnancy.

kemosabeimalone · 01/07/2020 07:57

Flumo - my friend’s cat recently brought in a stunned little frog while she was on a zoom call with work and deposited it in her slipper! My cat thinks he’s a mighty hunter but never catches anything despite being a huge beast - he’s the clumsiest cat ever.

Thanks kemos. My other labours have been precipitous so I'm frantically googling what happens if I go into full blown labour at the gp surgery!!! If this doesn't work they will induce me next week (no date yet) as I'm not allowed to get to 40 weeks due to my age.

I find this bit of pregnancy so worrying - constantly prodding the baby to make it move. I also keep thinking I'm going into labour and then nothing happens. I had a big poo yesterday and got very excited about that.

I just told my husband we have to dtd when I get back from midwife appointment as I read semen within 2 hours of the sweep can make it work better. He looked far too pleased. Me not so much.

kemosabeimalone · 01/07/2020 08:55

Oh all the best Willitbe! I’m 47 and they are allowing me to go to 41 weeks max but I had to haggle for that and the sweeps are part of the bargain. Have you had lots of scans? - I’ve found hearing the good placenta flow very reassuring! Because my first was c section and second Vbac can only have manual induction - balloon or rupture of membranes. I guess if neither works then it’s a c section but keen to avoid that if possible. 6 weeks w/o driving would be so hard!
