Do you think I’ll go into labour tonight?

It’s my third baby, I’m 38 weeks + 5. Had sweep today at 9ish 2cm dilated, cervix soft and MW could feel baby head. Just had show. Done back pain and cramps but nothing regular yet. Babysitter on standby!!!

I have no idea. I just wanted to send my sympathy for being 38 weeks in this heat!!

SqidgeBum · 24/06/2020 20:14

No idea, but I have my fingers crossed for you.

Can I ask, just out of curiosity as I am pregnant, did they offer you the sweep or did you ask for it?

kemosabeimalone · 24/06/2020 20:25

Thank you both 😊. My other two both went over by a week so these early signs are a bit of a novelty for me. The reason I had a sweep is I’m in my late 40’s and they prefer you not to go overdue at this age due to potential placenta failure. My experience though from DS2 is that a sweep will only get things going if things are headed in that direction ie cervix soft and effaced. If the cervix is high and hard it’s probably not going to do anything.

I had 3 sweeps with DS 2!

Following as I'm 39 weeks today with my 2nd, also had a sweep at lunchtime (3rd one in a week!) 1-2cm dilated, cervix soft but long and head high. Had much more bloody show and fairly regular braxton hicks ever since, whereas I had nothing much to show for the other 2 sweeps. Fingers crossed for us both!

kemosabeimalone · 24/06/2020 20:43

Oh good luck to you Moochops! Sounds a lot like my experience with my second so fingers crossed. With him I didn’t really have early contractions just a weird clicking feeling in my cervix. The contractions then started and built quickly do that and I was having 1 every 5 mins within an hour. I was 6cm when I arrived on labour ward and he arrived about 5 hrs later (two of that pushing - he was nearly 10lbs !!!

I could have written this last week. Went into the unit as i thought I was in labour, checked out 2cm, very soft and she could feel the babys head so she gave me a sweep and left me for a couple of hours. Checked again still 2cm and did another sweep then sent me home very sure I would be back in that night. That was Thursday and I'm still waiting 😨 I had a show on the Friday/saturday/sunday and was 39 weeks yesterday. Good luck, hopefully you will be more lucky than me.

MooChops89 · 24/06/2020 23:03

Thanks kemo - this is all new to me as I was induced last time and had a section at 1cm Hmm so I'm already doing better but still feel like not enough is happening yet, I'm so impatient!

Oh Flumo bless you, here's hoping all 3 of these babies show up soon! Is it your first?

Horehound · 24/06/2020 23:05

Yup!

kemosabeimalone · 25/06/2020 04:13

Up in the early hours as can’t sleep but every thing seems to have gone quiet! I’m mean’t to be taking my elderly mum to the doctors today but don’t know if I should risk driving should things ramp up again.
Good luck to everyone waiting! Hope you manage to stay cool today x

How are we all getting on? My tightenings settled down when I lay in bed and fizzled out like I thought they would Hmm have been super emotional today though, DH came down for lunch to find me sobbing on the kitchen floor coz I couldn't get the paddling pool up and filled 😂 hoping the hormone surge is a positive thing! Very occasional tightenings today when I walk around but nothing exciting. Any of you having / had a baby??

Icanflyhigh · 25/06/2020 17:59

Ooh I do love a good birth thread, makes me all envious and fluffy feeling!!

kemosabeimalone · 25/06/2020 20:51

Not much going on here except for a pinchy cervix feeling every so often. I’m absolutely knackered though and hope she doesn’t come tonight. Trying to get through the evening chores as fast as I can so I can get some kip. Oh I get you on the emotional stuff Moo - last Friday I had a day of tears as I couldn’t hack home schooling any more! I also started crying with laughter watching a Reeves and Mortimer clip and that turned into a proper crying jag!

No this is my 3rd so you would have thought I would know what I was doing by know 😅 having the odd cramp like pain and back pain but nothing major xx

kemosabeimalone · 26/06/2020 12:35

Flumo each birth is so different isn’t it? I feel like I should know what’s going on but I’m as clueless as the first time. I’ve got a big 9 year gap between babies and I’m worried everything has reset down there and I’ll have days and days of pre-labour Blush!

I'm a midwife and anecdotally, third babies are often little pickles! They seem to take longer to actually get going into labour, but then things are often pretty swift once established. Here's hoping you don't have a long latent phase.

Johnson10 · 26/06/2020 13:58

FTM - had 2nd sweep on Wednesday. I’m 40w+ now. Was 2cm dilated, nice soft cervix. Effeced. She could poke the baby’s head 😂
Had a show last night / this morning. No real pain or contractions. But the pressure down below is very heavy & a bit wow at times when walking.
Induction booked for Monday. Midwife seemed confident I wouldn’t make it to Monday. It’s all new to me ... what’s going on? Haha.

mamaof2girls · 26/06/2020 14:06

Get on birthing ball worked for me after my show

MooChops89 · 26/06/2020 17:24

littlemiss I'm a midwife too and I agree about 3rd babies! We love 2nd babies but no.3 always keeps us guessing!
Just had my 4th sweep Hmm but lots of change from 2 days ago, now 2-3cm dilated, much shorter and head much lower. Feeling optimistic!

willitbetonight · 27/06/2020 01:04

Oh gosh can I join in? 5th baby here and I'm 37 plus 5. My other babies were precipitous and I'm totally bricking myself that I'm going to go to the loo and the baby will fall down the toilet.

I keep getting pain in my cervix and tightening but for me in my previous pregnancies early labour is not painful.

I can deffo feel something going on right now but I don't think I'm in labour.

Was admitted last week as having contractions 2 minutes apart. I knew it wasn't real after I had been in the hospital half an hour and hadn't delivered! They just stopped.

kemosabeimalone · 27/06/2020 05:12

Hi everyone- thank you all for your updates and advice - so welcome! How’s everyone doing today?! I can’t sleep again!!! Everything still quiet contraction-wise but I had a massive show overnight so I guess that’s something.

willitbetonight · 27/06/2020 09:46

Kemos that is so exciting! I have never had a show but it's meant to mean things are imminent. My husband just said today would be a good day as childcare is easier at the weekend so we dtd. I've got cramps and stabbing pain in cervix now.......

kemosabeimalone · 27/06/2020 10:31

Ooo that sounds promising Willitbe! We DTF yesterday and I think it might have brought on the show in the night. Do the pains stop if you rest or are they coming in any position?

OP posts:
kemosabeimalone · 27/06/2020 10:31

DTD I mean Grin
