... the longer version is:
Basically when I got called in, GF was having contractions so she was on the foetal heart monitor and contraction gauge. They were coming regularly but baby was still high. We were monitored from like 3am until 6am. Then told to get some rest (!) and they would plan an induction in the morning with breaking of the waters by ARM (i.e. crochet needle eek!), better in the morning when there are more staff etc.
GF gets a few hours kip on the bed, me in the chair
... so the waters are broke, try to get an epidural in 3 times unsuccessfully, GF goes on the gas and air as the contractions are going for it. Hooked up to an oxytocin drip to get the contractions going ... and things seem to be progressing.
We were both really knackered and GF was tired, hungry (not having had anything to eat since breakfast), it being around lunchtime when induction was started. The drip works and the contractions are coming on stronger. GF decides on pethidene as the gas and air ain't doing it.
to cut a long story short, after an 1 1/2 of pushing baby wasn't progressing far down, so staff getting a bit concerned as GF is looking really knackered.
We get a bit of "assistance" i.e. sticking fingers in (!), quite a bit of liquid is released, baby makes an appearance but en episiomety was needed. GF was totally knakcered and there was quite a bit of blood loss.
however, amy-ann was totally lovely and came out quickly after the head was through. She was giving a great big bellow and she's an absolute gorgeous dream of a child.
