ER I got to 8cm without any pain at all - was in hospital at the time because my waters broke at 36 weeks. When I finally went to the midwives to say I was feeling cx they asked me if I needed any painkillers and I said no. They took their time examining me because they thought it was early stages - when they did 30 mins later I was 10cm and needing to push! Quick exit from post natal ward to delivery suite and a frantic phonecall to DH who like yours had been sent home! Just don't go too far from a phone if you're in DPs office things might happen quickly! Was agreat labour though in hind sight - much better than hanging around in pain for hours

yerblurt · 18/08/2007 21:55

Elenor's fella here

... I've been sent home now cries

... HATE being separated , just the thing we didn't want, but not a lot we can do about it under the circumstances as GF is 5cm dilated and baby is high.

We did however, manage to walk up 3 floors to the ward so that was good. GF is going to have a good nights sleep, now that all those bloody idiots have gone, honestly, it was really annoying having SO many people in the 4 bed room! ... I shall be having a word with the midwife in charge that the numbers aren't being adhered to! Thankfully they do have protected meals time on the ward when no visitors apart from partners are allowed on the ward, that's a really good idea.

Elenor is a bit more calm. It's good that we do have the 'escape route' of being able to pop downstairs to the office to just chill out/surf tinternet, plus our tea room has a microwave so can bring some decent food in - the canteen is rank!

Elenor is under orders to not go anywhere without me, I'm just a phone call away if she feels anxious and I can be there in 20 mins max.

We'll be OK!

Thanks for the update! Thinking of you all.

artichokes · 18/08/2007 22:01

Thank god for you and your office Yerblurt. I hope you can get a good nights sleep and you can go back rested tomorrow. DH did not get a good nights sleep in your position. Then he was present for an 18 hour labour. Once DD was born he was totally knackered. I was on a hormone high but DH looked totally past in. So go... now... sleep.

And good luck for tomorrow (or whenever it happens)

yerblurt · 18/08/2007 22:09

cheers MarsLady

cheers artichokes. Yeah, your DH must have been well shattered. ... and then the fun begins with the 2 hourly feeds he he

I'm chilling out with a pizza and a SINGLE beer, feel OK now that we know what is going on. Just managing it now I suppose.

Anyway we'll be fine, work already know that I'm taking the 2 weeks paid paternity leave and I've been saving up my annual leave so I'm sticking 2 weeks on the end of that so that should be really exciting!!!

come on baby!

(was having well cool dreams the other night about picking up crying baby and gently settling her, rocking her, then putting her back in her moses basket... so sweet!)

MarsLady · 18/08/2007 22:13

Oh bless..................... well we're here when reality strikes lol

yerblurt · 18/08/2007 22:17

*shudders at the memory of 2 hourly feeds and the SMELL of the nappy bin when emptying it ... especially in summer

vomits

yerblurt · 18/08/2007 22:21

Hey MarsLady, just seen your home page (? mammydoula.co.uk), wow! well cool!

... such beautiful pictures, a real sense of boy and "aliveness" , must be very rewarding.

yerblurt · 19/08/2007 00:44

... just had phone call from GF, she's been having some strong contractions, so they've put her on the foetal heart monitor,

she'll call back in 1/2 hour ... eek!

Saturn74 · 19/08/2007 01:41

Ooh, best of luck.

MarsLady · 19/08/2007 02:06

Thank you yerburt!

Make sure she's mobile and that it's a handheld sonicaid so that she can move about.

Looking forward to the birth announcement tomorrow!

And thanks for you kind words. I love love love what I do!

Klaw · 19/08/2007 11:39

What news? I went to bed early last night as have started a cold and also am on call for a client, (ARRGGHH! Timing?) So hopefully you will be very busy just now.

Had been thinking of suggesting a cot in your office so that you would still be on premises if need be... is there room? Anyway, it's all academic now as labour is likeluy to be in full swing!

Just waiting for the BA now!

MarsLady · 19/08/2007 22:33

News?????????

Klaw · 20/08/2007 00:51

I hate this...

waiting for news.....

I didn't post for ages on my 'other' VBAC board but I did call my "Guardian Angel" the minute I got home from my VBAC, think dp was still getting stuff in from the car, and I was in tears with happiness, thinks she thought it was bad news at first.... [happy memories emoticon]

also currently waiting for news of a VBAC on that other board as well as my call up for my VBA3C client....

best get to bed then!

yerblurt · 20/08/2007 23:15

sorry for the delay ... basically to cut a long story short - here's the short version:

Amy-Ann entered the world at 5.50pm sunday 19th August 2007 weighing in at a very respectable 8lbs 7oz's ! ... with a good set of lungs lol

MarsLady · 20/08/2007 23:17

congratulations!!!!!!!!!!

More details please. Type of birth how's the missus etc............

yerblurt · 20/08/2007 23:17

... the longer version is:

Basically when I got called in, GF was having contractions so she was on the foetal heart monitor and contraction gauge. They were coming regularly but baby was still high. We were monitored from like 3am until 6am. Then told to get some rest (!) and they would plan an induction in the morning with breaking of the waters by ARM (i.e. crochet needle eek!), better in the morning when there are more staff etc.

GF gets a few hours kip on the bed, me in the chair

... so the waters are broke, try to get an epidural in 3 times unsuccessfully, GF goes on the gas and air as the contractions are going for it. Hooked up to an oxytocin drip to get the contractions going ... and things seem to be progressing.

We were both really knackered and GF was tired, hungry (not having had anything to eat since breakfast), it being around lunchtime when induction was started. The drip works and the contractions are coming on stronger. GF decides on pethidene as the gas and air ain't doing it.

to cut a long story short, after an 1 1/2 of pushing baby wasn't progressing far down, so staff getting a bit concerned as GF is looking really knackered.

We get a bit of "assistance" i.e. sticking fingers in (!), quite a bit of liquid is released, baby makes an appearance but en episiomety was needed. GF was totally knakcered and there was quite a bit of blood loss.

however, amy-ann was totally lovely and came out quickly after the head was through. She was giving a great big bellow and she's an absolute gorgeous dream of a child.

MarsLady · 20/08/2007 23:18

Make sure the missus eats lots of green leafy veg, strawberries, tofu, kidney beans, steak and other iron rich foods.

Well done to her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And congratulations Daddy!!!!!!!!!!!
