im still in the hospital...DP works here, Im in his office.

Anyway...
Im 4cm dilated withoout having any discernable contractions or pain. In fact I was 4cm when I had the sweep much to my surprise.

Been to delievery unit who think I have cervical erosion. They are keeping me in over night. Im on a post natal ward atm.

Babys been monitored several times and heart rate is fine- no signs of fetal distress so far crosses fingers

The CTG is showing I am having contractions now and I can feel them too but they are still not painful. They feel like a pressure bearing down on my bowel.
Is it normal to get to 4cm without feeling anyhthing I asked hte midwifes... no they said.
Is it normal to have contractions without pain, no they said!

Hope this carrys on ie the without pain bit crosses fingers again

So looks like Im here to stay and DP cant stay with me on the ward ...unless I go into labour proper and Im moved back to the delievery unit.

Thanks for everyones kind concern and advice

Regards
Elenor

both my labours started with a bleed

hope you're ok

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 17/08/2007 21:12

Good Luck Elenor!

foxybrown · 17/08/2007 21:12

Good luck, hope you have as decent a night as you can.

Are you having any niggles or discomfort? I got to 6cms this way - had a few false starts but no painful contractions. Only took an hour once it kicked off, so here's hoping yours is the same!

Am glad you are alright, and fingers crossed you have your lovely new baby by the morning!

sparklygothkat · 17/08/2007 21:12

good luck, I got to 5cms without any pains. And the labours were very easy, hope its the same for you

Ceolas · 17/08/2007 21:14

Oh best of luck Elenor. Will look out for your announcement soon

beansprout · 17/08/2007 21:15

Best wishes to you and good luck!!!

MarsLady · 17/08/2007 21:15

Eleanor... I don't think it's strictly true about having to have pain. I've had some clients who haven't felt pain for ages and then only in the final stages. Perhaps your body and you are doing better than you all think.

So glad to hear that the bleed wasn't too serious and hope that that's the way it stays.

I hope you are holding your baby tomorrow.

Just continue to allow yourself to relax and breath your baby into the world.

Sam100 · 17/08/2007 21:16

I had 3 sweeps before no 2 and at last one midwife said was dilated to over 5 cms without any indication of labour! I still did not go into proper labour for another 2 to 3 days though (DD2 was 10 days late).

If it is any comfort when it finally did happen labour was quick (4.5 hrs) and relatively easy - did not have any pain relief other than birth pool. Kept eyeing up the gas and air but she had been born before I felt any need for it!

sparklygothkat · 17/08/2007 21:17

Oh FWIW I had a big bleed with DS, they said it was my show and my hind waters going at the same time, which made it look worse

NineUnlikelyTales · 17/08/2007 22:15

Oh I am so glad it's nothing too serious. I've been thinking about you. I hope you get some sleep tonight and then your baby tomorrow

yerblurt · 17/08/2007 22:49

Elanor's fella here

I'm at home, GF is fine, felt very upset having to leave her on the ward ... but policy is that I can't stay on the post-natal ward .. even though I work at the hospital too! grrr!

Anyway, I'm just chilling at home, back in tomorrow at 10 when visiting hours are back on... hope I don't get a call at 3am!!!

faints

MyMILisDoloresUmbridge · 17/08/2007 22:55

yerblurt, thanks for letting us know!

meandmy · 17/08/2007 22:55

so you got well past your weekend then!
hope all is well and your baby has safe arrival soon!
get some sleep!
dont forget to share nappy changing!

yerblurt · 17/08/2007 23:04

I'm a really hands on kinda guy - with my first child I was fully 50:50 kind of guy

I think kids are so amazing, they're brilliant ain't they!

goes all gushy

foxybrown · 18/08/2007 10:37

tell ER we're here thinking of her, and waiting for your good news!

MarsLady · 18/08/2007 11:24

Any news? [hopeful]

Klaw · 18/08/2007 13:18

..so you won't be going out on the razz tonight then, will you?

"Silent" labours are perhaps not normal but very possible and if ER is fortunate to have one then that's brill!

I hate the fact that you've had to leave her on the ward. Exactly what I didn't want to happen in my previous posts to you. Hope she didn't feel too alone. Tell her to listen to her instincts and if bleeding is accompanied by pain then get checked out...

but look at the time... you may be parents already!

what news?

sauce · 18/08/2007 13:20

Yes, tell us!

ElenorRigby · 18/08/2007 14:42

Well Im still in hospital, the painless contractions I had last night have stopped. I want to go home but Ive been told if I go home Ill be going against medical advice as Im now 5cm dilated baby and has jumped from 2/5 engaged to 4/5 engaged. So Im very dilated but babes high up- they feel because I dilated with no pain or signs I could easily and quickly become fully dilated and babe could be here very quickly. They also feel there is a risk of cord compression due to height of babe and dilation.

So Im feeling very fed up and stressed. For many years I had an babd anxiety disorder and still have occasional panic attacks. Being stuck in hospital with strangers around me, DP having to leave and feeling out of control is cooking my noodle. Ive been good so far and managed to stay put despite wanting make a run for it!

Klaw · 18/08/2007 15:21

ER, listen to your instincts! You are allowed to do stuff even if it's against 'their medical' advice.

If you would be more comfortable at home then that's an option, if your comfort zone is to stay at the hospital then that's fine too.

How far away are you?

Can you get walking as much as possible (without tiring yourself out)? There are l aods of stairs in a hopsitla normally so start going up and down some, that should help to shuggle baby lower down. Keep upright and don't recline, you must keep your knees below your pelvis and your bump in front of your pelvis, this helps to open it up and give baby room to descend. If you lie back or sit in car etc, your knees tend to come up higher than pelvis which leaves less room for baby. These are basic OFP principles but will hoepfully help descent too.

I really didn't want you to be in the scenario you're in as feelign alone is a killer when it comes to labour. If I was Yerblurt I'd be insisting! or ask for a private room. ANYTHING, as long as he can be with you...

Stay strong

MarsLady · 18/08/2007 15:26

Is a private/side room an option? Do ask. Get DP to pull strings if poss/ beg favours etc

ElenorRigby · 18/08/2007 20:15

Thanks Klaw, Mars lady and all

Klaw I will deffo start to do some stair climbing! Baby needs to descend ASAP!
Have already done a fair amount walking today around the hospital site and kept upright all day. Still no more contractions coming though.

We are tryimg to get a private room- my consultant even wrote on my notes I should be given preference given my history of anxiety disorder and panic attacks...my last panic attack resulted in my leaving a country sigh

artichokes · 18/08/2007 20:23

I feel for you ER. I get panic attackes and hate sleeping away from home and esp being without privacy. i was in a similar position to you last year when I had DD. When they sent DH home because I was not in established labour I nearly lost it. I begged for a private room, offered to pay etc but there simply wasn't anything available.

I am not sure why I am telling you this as I have no advice. Just wanted to tell you that I got through it and it was all worth it once I had lovely DD. You will be fine and have a lovely, lovely baby very soon.

ElenorRigby · 18/08/2007 20:32

Thanks Artichokes...

Its really difficult isnt it! But I know I have to stay I could never forgive myself if my panic hurt the lil one! Hopefully I will get some privacy soon!
Ive come down to office becuase the ward was mental... there must have been at least 20 people visiting the other 3 people in the 4 bed bay Im in, so many people in fact the area was getting very very hot with the body heat!

Will stay down here for a while and then do some stair climbing before bed.

thanks again
