... is labour on its way?! please tell me it is, I'm 40 weeks tomorrow and very fed up! I had a show yesterday morning and it hasn't stopped since. I've got contractions but they more or less stop when I sit down or lie down so true labour hasn't started yet. I feel very uncomfortable standing, with a big pressure on my lower tummy and feeling very crampy. Don't know what I'm asking really, maybe just for some reassurance that it's not going to last until 42 weeks!

Sounds like it to me. You need lulumama...I shall point her in your direction. Fingers crossed for you

fryalot · 18/06/2007 18:53

definitely sounds like something is going on.

Will watch birth announcements with bated breath.

Good luck

seamonster · 18/06/2007 18:56

lulumama will tell you to (ahem) twiddle your nipples and have sex. (unless your waters have broken)

I shall keep loitering as get rather over-excited at these threads.

seamonster · 18/06/2007 18:59

If you aren't looking through the active convos, there's a thread shouting for lulu for you.

BirthdayBabe · 18/06/2007 19:02

Waters haven't broken but sex is the last thing on my mind tbh... Twiddling my nipples sounds more doable though . Will keep you posted, I would hate to spoil your excitement seamonster and squonk

just so long as you remember to take the laptop to hospital with you, and post on this thread in between contractions.

Get the consultant to keep us updated of the actual birth

And then you can rest

seamonster · 18/06/2007 19:04

good good.
I have pans of water ready to be boiled!
Are you home or hospital?
First baby or one of many?
Ready?

trying to keep you busy!

seamonster · 18/06/2007 19:08

just checking

cathcart · 18/06/2007 19:08

How exciting! Try and make sure you eat something, you are going to need your energy - Good luck BB!

MarsLady · 18/06/2007 19:13

Lulu not here yet?

Now what's up birthday babe!

Describe your show. Pinkish? No blood?

fryalot · 18/06/2007 19:14

have you rang the midwife?

MarsLady · 18/06/2007 19:15

If there are no contractions you probably don't need the mw unless you think something's wrong.

You're right about your contractions. When you are in established labour they don't go away.

seamonster · 18/06/2007 19:16

ah thank goodness, some one who sounds like they know what they're doing.
[stops running around looking for old towells]

fryalot · 18/06/2007 19:17

seamonster - you were going to use old towels?

I rushed out to BHS at Home and bought new white fluffy ones

MarsLady · 18/06/2007 19:19

You know that the boiling of hot water was simply to keep dad busy whilst mum got on with birthing don't you? Stopped him from getting in the mw's way! lol

fryalot · 18/06/2007 19:20

I thought it was to make a midwife a cup of tea

So if you've got that kettle on, seamonster.....

seamonster · 18/06/2007 19:22

right you are.
[looks around]
where is she? Have we scared her away?

Not very absorbent if they are soft and fluffy.

fryalot · 18/06/2007 19:24

She's gone to twiddle her nipples

Will pad out the soft and fluffy ones with old ones for added absorbancy

You're going to have a baby! maybe tonight, maybe towards the end of the week but you are going to have a baby.

Lulu is Doulaing tonight and so i will just post one of my fave links which I hope will help you to keep perspective in early stages of labour - Early Labour mistakes

So tonight get to sleep as usual, and tomorrow carry on about your day as usual, plenty of rest but also brisk walks, if you have stairs take them sideways to shuggle baby into pelvis more, the nipple stimulation also - see Natural induction but skip the Castor oil and pineapple stuff

fryalot · 18/06/2007 19:29

phew! Someone else who sounds like they really, really know what they're talking about.

seamonster · 18/06/2007 19:30

[surreptiously hides old ones behind Squonks new ones]

MarsLady · 18/06/2007 19:32

squonk.... are you saying I don't know enough? lol

BreeVanDerCamp · 18/06/2007 19:34

@ Squonk...

LGJ passes Mars a very large red wine.

LGJ decided to play nasty and mentions Mr LGj's steaks...

MarsLady · 18/06/2007 19:37

Second word is off Bree!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could do with one of MrVDC's blue steaks! Sigh..............
