How long after birth were you discharged?

I'm currently 39+ and wanting to know how long after delivery you were allowed to leave the hospital? I've been induced in previous pregnancies so I'm unsure what the protocol is for a normal delivery assuming mother and baby are both well.

I stayed overnight both times. I think if it's straightforward & 1st or 2nd degree tear only you can go home 6 hours post birth (if baby ok too). Guess different hospitals may have different policies tho, Good luck 👍🏻.

I've had two emcs and was discharged 12hrs after one and 30 hours after the other.

wheredoesallthetimego · 27/06/2017 20:51

Following day after a morning C section, at my insistence!

cookielove · 27/06/2017 20:52

I gave birth at 11.00 on a Wednesday and discharged myself on the Thursday ASAP!

MrsD79 · 27/06/2017 20:53

I had my son at 8pm on a sunday night. I discharged myself at 10am.

aurorie11 · 27/06/2017 20:53

10 hours at midnight with first, no post natal beds

6 hours with second.

The protocol when I had second, seven years ago was 6 hours

charlie20167 · 27/06/2017 20:54

About 36 hours after..was induced and sustained 3rd degree tear Sad

MooMooTheFirst · 27/06/2017 20:55

I was induced and had second degree tears so could have gone home that day (gave birth at 9.10am) but I'd lost a lot of blood so they decided not to let me. I discharged myself lunch time the next day although they were very kind and said I was welcome to stay another day!

Ecureuil · 27/06/2017 20:55

3 hours with first, 5 hours with second (only because it took longer to get someone round to do the paperwork)

museumum · 27/06/2017 20:56

I gave birth at 8pm and was in theory discharged the next morning about 10am but ds was not so obviously I stayed with him. It was another night then full day before we got out about 48 hours after birth.
I'd had no drugs or tears or anything (lucky!).

BuzzKillington · 27/06/2017 20:57

6 hours.

I was desperate to go home for 5 hours of that.

AreWeThereYet000 · 27/06/2017 20:57

First I stayed in 1.5 days after as I tore and wouldn't go to the toilet so they wouldn't let me leave.

2nd they were happy for us to be discharged after 6 hours however there was a delay in the baby doctor (not sure of correct title) doing their rounds to check baby so I was in a little longer - had her just before 9am and was discharged around 5.30pm x

Stillwishihadabs · 27/06/2017 20:57

Dd was born at 12:40 am home by 3.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 27/06/2017 20:57

Dd1 - 32 hours
Dd2 - 14hrs
Dd3 - 6 hrs.

kingfishergreen · 27/06/2017 21:00

30ish hours after DD was delivered by EMCS. At my insistence. I also insisted on a private room (best £100 I've ever spent). ALL I wanted after a long labour was my own bed.

NutellaCookie · 27/06/2017 21:00

DC1 5 days due to complications with me.

DC2 7 hours after delivery! It was amazing to be home so quickly. I stayed down on delivery ward and was discharged as soon as baby had been given the all clear by the doctor.

I was induced both times.

Good luck OP!

PickledLilly · 27/06/2017 21:01

I think the minimum time until discharge in hospitals is usually six hours. Not sure why though as I had a home birth with my second and the midwives had packed up and gone within two hours of the birth and it was fine.

Ecureuil · 27/06/2017 21:02

I'm still so glad I never made it to the postnatal ward! Discharged straight from delivery suite both times.

Bythebeach · 27/06/2017 21:02

Child 1 emCS - 48 hrs
Child 2 normal vaginal delivery but PPH - 36 hrs
Child 3 normal vaginal delivery - 6 hours gave birth at 2 am left at 8am ''twas fab to be back home with my 6 hour old baby to see his sins. Perfect!!

Ecureuil · 27/06/2017 21:02

I gave birth in 2 different hospitals and both had a 3 hour discharge policy.

PickledLilly · 27/06/2017 21:03

And that was with about a gazillion stitches too.

Aliveinwanderland · 27/06/2017 21:03

5 hours after delivery

Abstardust · 27/06/2017 21:04

First was 3 days second was 8 hours would of been quicker but had to wait for doctor to let me go.

PickledLilly · 27/06/2017 21:04

Wow 3 hour discharge in hospital is quick! They can't normally seem to sort the paperwork in that time around here!

SuperBeagle · 27/06/2017 21:05

My hospital wouldn't allow anyone to go home before 24 hours had passed, regardless of how straight forward and uncomplicated the birth had been. This is in rural Australia though, so likely different. But even my friends who delivered in Sydney etc stayed for at least 24h.
