Really gross question......

I had a large show on Monday and have lost little bits every day since, but today have noticed a couple of wet patches in my knickers (sorry if TMI) and has a very distinctive smell, smells very sweet like i remember from when my waters broke with my dd.

Do waters always go with a huge gush? or could i be leaking very slightly?

dd1 the waters just trickled. dd2 waters went with a pop during labour.

Latipsoh · 04/08/2006 00:51

You could be. From what i know waters are less likely go with a huge gush. Usually a trickle.(unless broken for you and its like niagara falls ). What has mw said?

pucca · 04/08/2006 00:54

Not phoned MW, not really knowing what to do at mo.

Could it just be tail end of my show do you think? i know its gross but would that have the same kind of smell to it?

Just ring her pucca.

If your waters have gone, then you probably ought to let them know.

pucca · 04/08/2006 00:58

Still getting some "stuff" leaking, the thing is its not like water, its like very watery discharge but has a very smell to it, so i know its not wee, it smells like really sweet iykwim.

I think it may just be the tail end of my show, but jeez how much of the stuff is there?! Had a huge blob on Monday then been coming out every day since. With my dd it was just the big blob.

Would this "show" stuff smell like waters too? i remember the smell from having my dd, very distinctive.

Can anyone advise on this? I know i have been like a dog with a bone but just feel something going on here

opucca it's your waters.
phone the midwife NOW.

stop kidding yourself! it's your waters of course!

alexsmum · 04/08/2006 11:05

and 'waters' aren't like water. they are just as you described! it's amniotic fluid remember!

pucca · 04/08/2006 11:06

do it do it do it!!!!!!!!!

foxinsocks · 04/08/2006 11:10

phone the midwife woman

I did this dithering thing because I really didn't want to go in until I was ordered to by a fierce Jamaican who, in her beautiful lilting tones, made it very clear that I was going to go to hospital and be seen right now!

lucky she did because they popped soon after and ds was born about 2 hours later (also between 37/38 wks)

liquidclocks · 04/08/2006 11:11

Ring your m/w! the test they do to see if it's your waters is dead quick and easy! Also, if it's not that or wee then it's something (sorry, but could be thrush?) - anyway, you need to know as if labour doesn't start you'll need to be induced to prevent infection.

liquidclocks · 04/08/2006 11:12

sorry, induced in a few days, not like 'right now'. oops.

pucca · 04/08/2006 11:23

I just can't believe it may be my waters because its not running down my leg type thing, with my dd they went with a gush then leaked right through to her coming out. It just the smell that is bothering me more than anything. Weird.

alexsmum · 04/08/2006 11:26

every labour, birth and child are different. if the smell is strong def go and get checked pronto-you need to know there is no infection.

Gizmo · 04/08/2006 11:28

Pucca, if the baby's head has dropped, it can act like a plug in the cervix, preventing anything except a small, dampening trickle of waters coming through. ('Forewater' I believe is the technical term).

Your midwife should have some test strips which will show whether it is amniotic fluid or not: best to phone her and find out for sure, I'd think.

pucca · 04/08/2006 11:30

Ok will phone, the head is engaged and very low as they checked on Tuesday.

Thanks for all the replies everyone
