I had a large show on Monday and have lost little bits every day since, but today have noticed a couple of wet patches in my knickers (sorry if TMI) and has a very distinctive smell, smells very sweet like i remember from when my waters broke with my dd.

Do waters always go with a huge gush? or could i be leaking very slightly?

f* the midwives!!!it's their job!!!!

understand the hassle factor of course-it's hard 2nd time round.

alexsmum · 05/08/2006 12:56

is it a community team? we had a community team and someone would come out and check you.

pucca · 05/08/2006 13:38

I rang my local hospital yesterday which is a MW LED unit, they just fobbed me off even though they are in the same town as me, i have to go to the nearest biggest town because i am having a section, and the local hospital has no consultants. It a major PITA, have just been the loo and some has leaked on the pad, so gonna ring in a min and defo get it checked out, seems there is more now, and now i am thinking if it was tail end of my show it would be decreasing not increasing...which it seems to be.

Thanks AM you are a love for chatting with me about all this.

Just a thought but.....

if ot were water and it were infected, it would have a different consistency?

Go, Pucca, GO!

jofeb04 · 05/08/2006 13:59

Hiya,
Just to let you know that with my dd, i only noticed it when i was wiping, at the time i thought it was a show (it was discoloured).
About 15hours after this, my waters went slightly but even then there wasn't alot.
The mw's told me to get to hospital, and when there they said it was my waters and basically the head was in such a position, that it was minimally letting the waters out (ifkwim).

flutterbee · 05/08/2006 14:20

God I hope you have gone to get it checked out if not I think I may have to slap you

pucca · 05/08/2006 14:31

Jofeb04...Really?! wow, ok that has certainly made me think now

It a bit embarrassing if they check me though as i have "farmer giles" atm think it because of the pressure of his head. Gross!!!

flutterbee · 05/08/2006 22:54

OK I am starting to think something may be going on now, how exciting. I shall check in tomorrow to see if we have any news.

eenywifemum · 05/08/2006 22:58

oh Pucca!! Cant wait to hear how you are. I'm the same about not going in if I can avoid it.

pucca · 06/08/2006 00:01

Hi everyone, sorry no news as such sent me home.

They did a check by that smear type thing (can't remember the name) said it wasn't my waters, said something about it could be something coming from the placenta (WTF!?!?) took a swab of cervix, said cervix wasn't dilated, and took some bloods.

Got quite bad pains atm, that why i am sat here on PC lol.

They have panicked me about something else now though my BP is always perfect 110/60, but was 134/90 when they checked it, i told them that is totally abnormal for me, then they forgot to get me to do a urine sample, so while i was waiting in waiting room for my notes so i could go home, they asked me to do a sample, i did one, then they went off to check it and came back gave me my notes and i went home....when i got home i looked at what they had written in my notes and says URINE TEST - BLOOD 2+, and PROTEIN.So now am panicking about that surely this can't be good?

So i rang them back and questioned what it said, the MW said yes that is right, so i said is this not worrying i.e pre eclampsyia (SP?) and she said, if you get any headaches ring us back WTF!!!!and they only take it seriously if the lower BP number is 95!

I give up now, surely BP raised (which is totally weird for me), blood in urine, and protein is NOT a good thing???

Thanks for all the posts, and advice, you are all very lovely for thinking of me xxx

Hi Pucca - it is not unusual for you to have blood and protein in your urine because you have been having so much 'discharge' down below. It might be that you have a bit of a minor infection which will show up on the swab.
It is also not unusual for your blood pressure to be higher than usual after all the concern you have had about whether your waters have gone or not, however I would have expected that your blood pressure would have been rechecked. Was just the one reading taken?
It is likely that the blood test you have had taken will be checked for any signs of pre-eclampsia ie platelets, urates etc.

I would advise that you contact your own midwife tomorrow and see if she will come and visit. Were you offered a visit?
She could check your blood pressure again and chase up your blood results which should be available tomorrow.

The best thing you could do just now is take 2 paracetamol for the discomfort you are having (most likely due to internal), have a warm bath and go to bed.

However, if you have any concerns at all do not hesitate to call the hospital back.
Hope you manage to get some sleep. HTH.

pucca · 06/08/2006 00:18

Hi Mears, yes they took blood presure twice, once with the hand held pump, and then again to check it with the electronic one. Thanks for the advice, still losing the "stuff" below, guess it is prob just end of the show i have had, but i don't get the comment on the placenta?!

OP posts:
pucca · 06/08/2006 00:19

Forgot to add, no not offered a visit, i have antenatal appointment on Tues, then in on Friday for my section.

They said a full blood count was to be done, would this be to check everything?

Thanks again.

Pucca

If you want to look at Pre-eclampsia stuff try here, APEC

Pre-eclampsia is unlikely with subsequent babies by the same father BUT although some Consultants will tell you otherwise, this is NOT impossible- I worked on a Pre-Eclampsia support group for a while after DS1 was born, and it does happen. Asuming you and DP (not sure of your history) are both the parents of DD, then it is unlikely though. Certainly stress, as Mears says, can raise a BP and protein can be a sign of infection (the pain isn't in the kidneys is it?) but your BP should be monitored now.

I used to pop into the local Pharmacy to have mine done when MW's were busy.

It is also possible to have BP issues in PG that are problematic, without having Pre-Eclampsia as such.

Your MW may well call you tomorrow to give you the results of your tests, if not call her earlya nd ask about BP monitoring. Most PET cases (Pre Eclamptic Tozaemia) ime have a consistently high BP, but some (mine included) do spike and drop a bit.

mears · 06/08/2006 19:07

A full blood count will tell if white cell count is high (sign of infection) or (platelets are low (sign o fpre-eclampsia type problems).

Feel free to call you community midwife tomorrow to ask her to check you blood pressure.

Staff probabalt fely Tuesday was soon enought to be seen, which it probably is if you do not have headaches. visual disturbances or heartburn type pain. If you develop any of y=those symptoms, call the hospital immediately.

If you continue to leak fluid, call the hospital on Monday.

Hope you managed to get some sleep. Good luck for Friday
