I had a large show on Monday and have lost little bits every day since, but today have noticed a couple of wet patches in my knickers (sorry if TMI) and has a very distinctive smell, smells very sweet like i remember from when my waters broke with my dd.

Do waters always go with a huge gush? or could i be leaking very slightly?

Give them a call, with my ds, my waters were broken, and with my dd it was exactly as you say, very small amounts throughout the day.

pucca · 04/08/2006 13:18

Ok i have rang, and MW has just said put a pad on and see what happens, she didn't seem that concerned its my waters though, so just gonna put pad on and play by ear.

Thanks everyone as i said before i know i am a PITA

Forgot to add actually, i am not needing to go into labour as i am booked for elective section next Friday (3rd degree tear with my dd)

Dont worry about infection, the guidelines are 96 hours after waters broken before hospital starts to get twitchy.

Tbh though sounds like this baby maybe coming before next friday

alexsmum · 04/08/2006 18:13

wow 96 hours!!!

policy here is 24 hours!

pucca · 04/08/2006 19:04

It was 24 hrs here too (don't know if it still is now) as my waters went 1st with my dd but i was ok as contractions started pretty much straight away, but because i ended up going over the 24 hrs they still checked her for infection when born, and i was given IV antibiotics.

Still losing some "stuff" but still can't see how it can be waters as still not runny enough really, > lol.

I thought the same actually, about i can't see me going till next Friday as things are obviously progressing, lots of BH's lots of niggily period pains since my show on Monday, and 2 mornings this week i have been pacing the floor downstairs at 3am with VERY bad contraction like pains.(which wore off after a couple of hrs both times)on Weds morn i was shaking with the pains.

Definately something going on me thinks lol

I presume you told the MW on the phone when this began ? Seems rather a long time ago IYSWIM. Fancy a quick trip to the Day Assessment Unit ?

pucca · 04/08/2006 19:12

Hub...Yes i have been nagging their balls off so to speak lol i know head is well engaged as i went into del suite on Tues and the MW did an internal then (which has prob kicked things off too) and she said "can you feel that? thats me bouncing the head with my finger" lol

I have rang this aft and they don't seem too concerned tbh, just wish either something would happen i.e waters totally go, or nothing had happened, just feel in limbo tbh.

Hi pucca, still standing by in Colorado with the hot water and towels. redbull and I were convinced you'd given birth under the computer last time. Sorry your having such a tough time of it. Have you thought about having some reflexology that's know to kick off full blown labour. Get your dh to massage your feet for you. Take care and I hope you have a safe delivery very very soon.

clairemow · 04/08/2006 19:16

Pucca, definitely sounds like your waters. If the baby's head is sitting over the birth canal, and fitting nicely - like a leaky plug -(!)- it could easily just be letting out a dribble at one side say. At my antenatal class they said the waters could gush, or could just dribble a little bit. I think someone should take a look at you, esp if you're meant to be having a section and avoiding vaginal delivery due to your tearing.

Good luck!!!

pucca · 04/08/2006 19:19

Lol @ Alipiggie

lol, one of those mysteries of the universe as to what is going on, think MW's on del suite think i am a complete nutter tbh

i agree with claire.you have to phone now and tell them assertively that something is happening.is your bag packed? i agree that it is your water and the head is plugging the flow so to speak.i would be phoning he delivery suite and asking to come in for a check up tbh.

pucca · 04/08/2006 19:24

Yes bag is packed and in car from other night

I know i am like one of those annoying kids that whinge but...surely it would be like water? this is just like a runny discharge, yellowy pink in colour and has the smell i described earlier.

Sounds just like mine did. Go in and get checked woman!

alexsmum · 04/08/2006 19:26

NO!!!!!!! it's not water! it's amniotic fluid!!!!!!!!!
it shouldn't be like water, it should be like amniotic fluid!!!!!!!! slippery and slightly coloured!!!! if it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, chances are it's a duck!!!!!!!!
get thee to the maternity hospital woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

colditz · 04/08/2006 19:27

Yellowy pink was the colour of my waters.

alexsmum · 04/08/2006 19:27

put some of it some glass and leave it to dry.if it forms a fern pattern when dry, it's def 'your waters'.

DumbledoresGirl · 04/08/2006 19:29

When I had ds1, my waters went on the day he was due. It was just a leak, felt a bit like a heavy period really although it must have been more water than that as I was getting through pads every hour or so. This went on for 2 days before he was finally born (induced). I am sure what you are experiencing is your waters leaking. Don't worry about running out of waters though. I remember the MW saying to me that your body replenishes what you lose so you could theoretically carry on leaking for ever!

ooh how exciting! Your baby is on its way!

hub2dee · 04/08/2006 19:49

pucca, you're entitled to be a PITA, especially at this time. Please don't worry about appearing to be a nut. Rather get assessed fully (as often as you feel you need) than have things get out of hand. I would imagine if you phone the labour ward and speak to a doctor or MW and tell them how long you've been leaking they would want to see you pdq for a feel / trace / check all OK etc.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2006 19:56

with DS1 my waters went (all on their own) like Niagara Falls.

DS2 it was just a trickle - which got heavier if I moved (hence the reason I sat rigidly on the organ stool for the whole of the service that I was playing for the day my waters went with DS2 LOL).

SlightlyFamiliarPeachyClair · 04/08/2006 20:00

Mine exploded in labour with all three- a gush for ds2, literally a MW drenching explosion with other two.

pucca · 04/08/2006 20:04

There was only a little bit on pad, its more when i wipe (sorry tmi) still got the smell and still same in colour, slightly yellowy.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 04/08/2006 20:04

oh forgot to say - hadn't had any contractions with either of mine when my waters went - not even any Braxton Hicks!

jabberwocky · 04/08/2006 20:06

No contractions here, either. GO IN!!!
