How did your waters break?

Because I'm not sure if mine have I heard a definite pop last night in bed, and have been losing small amounts of fluid from somewhere ever since. Whilst leaning forward this morning, I had a big gush (wet my knickers and trousers - sorry if TMI!), which I'm sure wasn't wee (went to the toilet afterwards and still needed a wee).

My waters were broken in labour with ds, and there was seemingly litres of them, so I don't really know what to expect! 39+5w pg and head is engaged - would this mean I wouldn't get the big gush?

my bed was next to the wall and i normally walked to bottom and got out of bed that way but one morning i couldnt be bothered and asked dp to sit up so i could get out of bed behind him IYSWIM? i shuffled to edge of bed and felt a popping sensation , i had felt before though and just said "ooo" dp asked what was wrong . it was 6.40 am and i just said "not sure "
low and behold as i stood up niagra falls was in between my legs !!!! all hell brokke losse as me and dp slightly panicked !! used ottoman (sp?) at end of bed to get as many towels as was in there out to stuff frantically between my legs . 5 mins later contractions coming every 1 min xxxxxstrong dd3 was born at 10.16 am

GOOD memory

The gush vs trickle depends if it is fore- or hind-waters that have gone IIRC. Mine was trickles and clear at first, later pink stained. ds followed 2 days later. good luck

pucca · 26/06/2006 14:39

I didn't have the pop, but i woke up at 4am and knew something was wrong iykwim, i just got to the loo and had a gush, i then trickled up to dd being born 20-odd hrs later.

BetsyBoop · 26/06/2006 15:17

mine went with a huge gush

I was 39+4 & got up at 3am to go to the loo ( as you do ) and as I was walking across the landing I felt a trickle down my leg. Luckily I was awake enough to think "hey I'm not incontinent" & dived into the shower (nearest thing) & water just gushed & gushed out of me for what seemed like 2 or 3 minutes.

When I rang the delivery suite they asked me if I was sure - I said "yes absolutely NO doubt"

jabberwocky · 26/06/2006 15:21

another trickle here - Laura hasn't posted in a while. Maybe labour has started?

flutterbee · 26/06/2006 15:25

Mine went at 32 weeks I just woke up in the morning and has a gush down my legs, they continued to leak for about 4 days. I then had a scan and there was no fluid left around DS at all. I then went into natural labour at 34 and a half weeks pg, 5 days before I was due to be induced.

It does sound as thought yours have gone though.

SecurMummy · 26/06/2006 15:30

with all three dds my waters exploded on delivery

with ds I woke up with that "got to be in the toilet now" feeling, leapt out of bed and .... yup "pop"! Luckily all over the pile of old towels etc I had got together in case I unexpectidly gave birth at home

Remember calling "get the phone" "no its 5am" "getthe phone" "get it yourself" "my waters have broken" "....."

Def. sounds like it to me - good luck

mythumbelinas · 26/06/2006 15:33

The first time i was already, conveniently, sitting on the toilet .. when it happened i thought 'that must be my waters breaking!! lucky !!'
Second time i had just started contractions that were getting closer and thought about my waters, so i got the biggest towel, folded it, sat on it and few mins later they broke, so lucky again!!

muma3 · 26/06/2006 15:36

i think she started getting pains shortly after posting and is hospital now coping lovely

LAURA-correct me if wrong!!

SecurMummy · 26/06/2006 15:46

yes? ooh that is good - no HB then?

Mercy · 26/06/2006 15:46

Good luck Laura

My waters breaking were the first sign of labour with both my children - and both born about 12 hours later.

Laura032004 · 26/06/2006 16:35

Nothing happening yet MW has been out, and thinks that my waters have gone, but no sign of any contractions! Just off for a walk to see if we can get anything started.

They're of the 72 hours variety round here before they start talking about induction, so I've got a little while to get things going yet. Wish me luck.

ds1 - climbed up onto bed for m/w to do internal, and suddenly gushing of water, was really embarrassed as I thought I'd wet myself, until she said 'Oh, your waters have just broken'. Was fully dilated at this point.

ds2 - was delivered with waters still intact. m/w broke them afterwards.

SSSandy · 26/06/2006 17:54

No idea. Didn't notice that they did at all. Must have been in the delivery room at some stage but no one drew my attention to it.

Marne · 26/06/2006 17:56

Had to have mine broken both times (when in labour)

LIZS · 26/06/2006 18:02

Mine went with a pop, then gushing with water for hours, especially when I moved. The head was engaged. But they can be just a trickle. Saturated a large towel on the way to the hospital to be monitored. And then another large towel going back to the hospital.

At the hospital I gave birth they only let you go 48 hours, before being induced. And you have to monitor your temperature and watch out for bleeding.

I saw a kit on TV you can now buy that will test the fluid to see if your waters have broken.

It sounds like yours have broken, good luck!!

Laura032004 · 26/06/2006 22:50

Still here, still dribbling! Have had several bloody shows now, so hoping that things are underway. Hoping to be woken by contractions during the night!
