How did your waters break?

Because I'm not sure if mine have I heard a definite pop last night in bed, and have been losing small amounts of fluid from somewhere ever since. Whilst leaning forward this morning, I had a big gush (wet my knickers and trousers - sorry if TMI!), which I'm sure wasn't wee (went to the toilet afterwards and still needed a wee).

My waters were broken in labour with ds, and there was seemingly litres of them, so I don't really know what to expect! 39+5w pg and head is engaged - would this mean I wouldn't get the big gush?

Just thinking of you Laura when I was washing up, thought I'd come and check...

...hope things speed up now..

Sitting on the toilet at 2.30am, there was a pop (like a cork out of a bottle!) which was actually a bit painful. There was a few huge gushes and then some trickling for the next few hours. Dh had just put new plywood down on the kitchen floor prior to laying ceramic tiles. There was I on the phone to MW, with husband putting towels, kitchen roll, basin underneath me to catch the water. Even had the nerve to say " Watch the floor!!"

melrose · 27/06/2006 10:02

When the MW stuck a hook in them!

My friend's broke outside the bank though whilst she was waiting for DH who was paying a cheque in, she walked in and shouted "XXX We're going now!" to which he responded "why..(looks downwards) Oh, OK"

Laura, try some reflexology seriously!

I thought it was a load of rubbish before a midwife gave me a treatment and went in to labour within hrs.
Worth a try

thinking of you hun

Laura032004 · 27/06/2006 10:35

Have just telephoned and left a message with a reflexology lady. Willing to give anything a try! Your options get a bit limited once your waters have gone don't they

me just sitting on the loo thinking "did i just wee myself" lol

off to hospital, then home again

muma3 · 27/06/2006 11:49

good luck and try to relax it will happen eventually

mummy23 · 27/06/2006 13:19

You poor thing, with both of my ds's my waters broke at home. Ds1 started of naturaly and he was born within 24hrs (19 to be precise), but ds2 i had to have a sweep and then went for a 2.5 hr walk with dp and things soon started and he was born 1am (had sweep at about 5pm)!

Good luck and hope to hear your birth announcement soon!

Beauregard · 27/06/2006 13:30

Dd1-Had the old knitting needle to break them.
Dd2-Got up from sofa and felt a trickle then the rest went whist pushing.

h23 · 27/06/2006 13:38

Hi Laura,
my waters broke at 3am and then kept trickling (never a big rush). Midwife did acupuncture on me at 10am (i live in germany so she can do that sort of thing here) and DD was born at 3pm at home.

I thoroughly reccomend acupuncture or reflexology. I was told that home births are safer than hospital births if your waters break early, because there are more germs in hospital.

Good luck!

Laura032004 · 27/06/2006 17:31

Still nothing to report. I've got an appt for reflexology for tomorrow afternoon, hoping I don't need it! I might look up the pressure points and get DH to give it a go tonight as well.

h23 - MW today said exactly the same thing about the germs. At least the ones at home are your own!

It was only with my 6th child that my waters broke naturally
the others were broken for me

yum2mum · 27/06/2006 20:50

With my first and only child my waters came quite unexpectidely one minute i was sitting on the loo trying to poo and the next minute theres a big big spurt and gush of water and its all over the floor and a big panic sets in ill never forget it.
what was even worse was my mother in law came in that morning to clean it up for me coming home ugh

kid · 27/06/2006 21:21

My waters trickled away, I wasn't even sure if it was my waters at first. The hospital tested and said it was and then I had to stay in until DD was born whiche ended up being 42 hours later. I wasn't in labour the whole time, but I wasn't pleased at being kept in hospital and induced.

With DS, my waters never broke as I had an elective section and they used a suction to get rid of them! That was weird having my tummy hoovered

EmmyLou · 28/06/2006 10:02

With dd1 and dd2 I had to have my waters broken so with dd3 when labour started to set in properly I announced confidently to dh that i was sure they wouldn't break at home. Must have laughed too hard during an episode of 'Teachers' as they whooshed out all over my favourite rug on the livimg room floor.

nzshar · 28/06/2006 11:00

With both of mine i was a gusher the first was at 33 weeks and the second at 36 weeks my boys like to stomp their way out (both breech) Thank goodness both were while i was at home

Laura032004 · 28/06/2006 14:19

Oohh - this thread is on Discussions of the day! I've never had a thread I started on there before

Well, I had a good few hours of mild contractions last night, but they seem to have eased off again now. My reflexology appt is in quarter of an hour, so hoping that might do something! Have also now invested in some raspberry leaf tablets (avoided previously as they gave me an upset tummy with DS). Will be taking a trip to Tesco for some fresh pineapple this afternoon.

Please come out baby!

i had my baby three days ago, my waters went like a gunshot, huge bang, splattered the midwife and the wall behind her!!!! luckily i had had an epidural so didnt feel a thing but the noise gave me a big fright!

catsmother · 28/06/2006 21:48

My 1st were broken by midwife.

The 2nd was a very definite gush ... I was lying on my tummy .... well, with tummy between 2 beanbags trying to stop my back aching, in my nightie with no knickers on so it went everywhere. The initial gush also included the show, the big mucousy bloody plug as well so it was obvious what had happened. Used up a lot of towels and pads until I gave birth 21 hours later.
