40+5 & losing my plug - Come keep me sane! (Potential Live Labour Thread! Eek!)

I know it doesn't necessarily mean anything but it's my first definite sign after months of braxton hicks & it's got me all nervous & jittery & excited! Grin

I've left DH to sleep for now, although I may be getting contractions so I might have to wake him up soon! This is DS2 & will hopefully be born at home. DS1 is 19m & his labour was 8 hours from definite, regular contractions to him appearing so I'm not expecting this to be a long labour.

Someone come chat to me?

I'm 40+3 and also started losing my plug yesterday. Sadly no contractions yet just a sore back (baby is back to back). Hope yours starts soon.

Hmm... Now I'm bleeding... How much blood is a good sign & at what point should I be concerned?! Confused

Community midwives do hand-over at 8 on weekdays. No idea if this is the same for weekends though. I'd like to hang on until shift change before calling so I know I'll keep the same person. Might call the delivery suite in a bit & get them to warn the midwives that I'll probably need checking out sometime soon!

I'm 40+1 today, 1st baby. Nothing much apart from some random period type pain. Feeling really flipping moany and tetchy all of a sudden this morning after a very easy, happy pregnancy. Hope this means labour be along soon. Confused

Hope it all goes smoothly for you. Very jealous of your homebirth, am under consultant so it was a no for me, but I would have loved to. Sad

Who will be watching ds1 for you?

We're hoping DS1 will be around or asleep! We've got various friends who we can dump him on at short notice & my mum can be here in an hour to collect him for a longer stay. Hopefully none of that will be necessary & he can be one of the first people to meet his baby brother! Grin

Sorry I just assumed he would be shipped out for duration! That will be lovely, is he excited to meet the baby? I don't suppose he's old enough to fully understand the nightmare of a younger sibling yet. (Absolutely hated my younger sister, 4 year gap, teen years esp bad!) But a smaller gap is much better I think.

How are you feeling now? Did you ring for advice about the blood? Has it stopped?

Haven't rung yet. I've been busy getting my postnatal herbal tea brewing! I've been dying to do that for months! Grin

The bleeding is only when I wipe & about the amount you'd expect at the start of a period. Don't think I'm in danger of bleeding to death quite yet! I'm getting period-type pains too so I'm pretty sure things are starting!

It's v different to my last labour already. I lost my plug the morning after having a sweep, my waters went 24 hours later & contractions didn't really start for another 10 hours after that. No waters yet. Really paranoid about them now. I'm really tempted to sit on the toilet until they break...!

How exciting for you, I would still give midwife a ring, regardless of what time they switch shifts, are you having any pains yet?

Yes, I would also give midwife a ring. They will hand all information over to the day team. I'm 39 +1 and my son is also 19 months, and we're also expecting another boy! Very excited for you! Will keep checking in to see how you're getting on. In the meantime, must go and sort out my son, who woke up a few minutes ago and decided to take his clothes off. ??

They're quite happy with the blood situation! She's going to call the community team for me & get someone to come see us. She clearly thinks I'm about to push! Kept telling me to call back sooner if I felt the contractions getting stronger etc!

A few contractions but nothing major yet. I am shaking though. Stupid hormones making it difficult to type!

Oooh!! SO excited for you! (Wish it was me!!). Yes, try and fuel up for labour, and the shakes will go. Just adrenaline at the excitement of the situation. Will be checking in to see how you're getting on xx

They're not coming to check! The community midwife seemed to think that things would progress better if I was just left to it! I'm under instruction to call if the contractions start to ramp up or if I get worried about the bleeding.

The shaking has stopped now but I'm getting rather unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms...! Childbirth is so glamorous! Grin

These are all good signs. The shaking, the bleeding/plug, the gastro symptoms. Sounds like you're in labour. How exciting!

My waters only ever popped just before they crowned, so don't worry if your waters don't go for ages.

Lol - I remember those GI symptoms. I tried for homebirth the first time, and I waited until I had some very convincing contractions until I called them. They came out, and I was 4cm. But, I needed to poo, and they got very excited that I was further along than I was! I put them straight - I definitely needed to poo. But every time I sat on the loo, a contraction came and I had to walk/breathe it out. I won't tell you how the poo situation ended...

I've been so paranoid about giving birth on the toilet after reading lots of stories about women confusing the 2 feelings! Definitely gastrointestinal at the moment though! I'm getting a bit concerned about dehydration because of it! Blush

Timeable contractions now... 2 of them! First was 30s & just over 4 minutes later was a 40s one! Last time they started at 5 minutes & lasted 50s...
