What was your last meal before you went into labour?

I keep thinking - this could be my last meal before the baby comes!

With DS it was chicken and mash from my lovely neighbour whose house I escaped to when my waters broke and I was all on my own.

Had pie and chips from the chippy at 7.30, contractions started at 8, baby born at a quarter past midnight!

JeanLouiseFinch · 11/03/2011 21:57

Sunday lunch in the hospital canteen right after the gel was applied.

Lavitabellissima · 11/03/2011 22:00

I had made Steak sarnies a la Jamie's 30 minute menu's, but had forgotten baby brain to cook the ciabatta so it was chewy, also did the mushroom accompaniment, friend during dinner kept saying "are you sure you can eat chilli, doesn't it bring on labour Confused?"

JeanLouiseFinch · 11/03/2011 22:05

Mmm Jamie's steak sarnie is delicious :)

Can't remember with ds1. I was going in to be induced so I think it wsa someting high carb like pasta.

DS2, a Mcdonalds breakfast on the way home from being cheked over after my waters broke. It wasn't long before we were on our way back, he didn't hang around!

RhinestoneCowgirl · 11/03/2011 22:13

With DS my mum cooked some pasta for tea just as my contractions started, felt too sick and keyed up to eat any.

With DD I cooked a huge pan of veggie and kidney bean soup, was having a few twinges. Ate a bowlful for tea and went into labour at midnight, DD born just before 6am. Ate the leftover soup sitting up in bed the next day - tasted amazing :)

Ham, egg and chips, and a half of cider (at the pub).

SkipToTheEnd · 11/03/2011 22:27

I had a full roast with DD - stopping every 8 minutes to breath through contractions!

With DS it was a salad. I'd been craving beetroot and tomatoes which I'd never liked before my pregnancy. I snacked on cakes right before though as my mum had been baking.

piprabbit · 11/03/2011 22:27

Breakfast - both times.

Second time round, I woke up knowing I was in labour and decided I was going to have breakfast now (about 5am) in case I didn't get a chance later.

emsyj · 11/03/2011 22:29

I had just finished a massive bowl of coco pops when my waters broke. DH made me cheese on toast while I was contracting in the bath and then I threw it up an hour or so later.

LisamumtoJake · 11/03/2011 22:29

emm breakfast, consisting of bacon roll :)

bonkers20 · 11/03/2011 22:33

Pizza Express! Popping off to the loo now and again wondering if it was really it.
It was, but DH and I still managed to look around a few bike shops until one of the lovely chaps asked if I was OK - I guess my "breathing through it" was becoming a little more obvious. 3hrs later...da da, DS arrived.

Can't remember with DS1 - unless a roll of Tums count?

BetamaxBandit · 11/03/2011 22:33

Fish and chips. Which I immediately barfed back up exorcist style Grin And then the contractions started...unfortunately the puking didn't stop and I ended up on a drip due to dehydration :(

oldsilver · 11/03/2011 22:36

A blueberry muffin, then I didn't eat till after birth (ELCS) 2 days later - very ill HELLP syndrome couldn't keep anything down...

SingingSands · 11/03/2011 22:45

A McDonald's with DD Blush.

An entire tray of fresh mango with DS (think it brought labour on!)

me23 · 11/03/2011 22:49

with dd it was a pizza with hot chillies on top.

Jojay · 11/03/2011 22:49

Bangers and Mash with Ds2 - can't remember with Ds1

I remember being starving afterwards though, and I'd forgotten to put any food in my hospital bag Angry Grin

SoozleQ · 11/03/2011 23:07

Ha ha, a McDonald's breakfast (bacon McMuffin, hash brown and OJ) due to hospital turning me away from my ELCS because they cocked up their admin (apparently I'd already given birth so they gave away my ELCS slot!?) and I was starving after fasting from the night before.

Arrived home after McDonald's brekkie and within half an hour waters broke. Cue immediate return to hospital and EMCS, probably at about the same time as I should have had my ELCS but far less calm. Thanks NHS.

To be fair, they were very good in an emergency - it's just a shame that they were the cause of the emergency.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 12/03/2011 07:23

Mcdonalds seems to be a theme ...

I had a show just before the contractions started (around 5-6pm), do DH phoned our doula, who advised that I eat as big a bowl of pasta as I could manage and have a glass of red wine afterwards in a warm bath.

It was fantastic advice as I didn't eat again until lunch time the following day, after DD had been born. I wasn't hungry until just before lunch arrived.

Abcinthia · 12/03/2011 09:55

Home made quiche with chips and salad.

irishqueen · 12/03/2011 10:36

Chicken, chips and peas at 7! Scoffed the lot in record time. Waters broke at 9.20 baby born at 10.15. 11 day old snuggling on my knee at moment
