What was your last meal before you went into labour?

I keep thinking - this could be my last meal before the baby comes!

With DS it was chicken and mash from my lovely neighbour whose house I escaped to when my waters broke and I was all on my own.

Wow, I have no idea...I think I tried to eat a yoghurt but ended up throwing it up again...good old pre-eclampsia

theborrower · 12/03/2011 12:25

Homemade spaghetti and meatballs, my favourite - but that was when I was already in labour. Had a cup of tea later when I was sure it was the real thing (and it was late at night) but then I ended up going into hospital and being told I was having an EMCS and they kept asking lots of questions about what I'd eaten and drunk and when. Hmmm.

GeekLove · 12/03/2011 17:02

I really hope its the last one I had. But given the lack of action thats a no...40+2 and counting.

DilysPrice · 12/03/2011 17:17

I had egg and chips before going into labour with DD, I was desperately trying to delay labour for various non-medical reasons and trying to eat the most boring food possible. Failed miserably of course.
With DS I checked into St Thomas's, was told I still had a way to go, and so I went out for a little walk and bought a very nice, huge, bagel-y thing and an ice tea from a shop on the South Bank.

The obligatory McDonalds came afterwards when I sent DH out for burgers and giant milkshakes - I got absolutely filthy looks from the midwives, who thought I was knocking back a litre of Coke.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 12/03/2011 17:23

So I think the key is that if you want to bring on labour, get yourself some fast food. Good to know.

I had McDonalds for lunch today. A good omen.

Am hoping my last meal before labour will be chicken fajitas though, as that's what I've just finished eating. Grin

With DS my last meal was a chocolate muffin in the hospital canteen. Was being induced and told to eat nothing. Didn't follow advice!

Tarlia · 12/03/2011 18:03

I was already in hospital with pre eclampsia. Carrot sticks - hospital kitchen sent me sugar free tirimisu instead of the egg sandwich I'd actually ordered. Reordered then MW can with the gels, my sandwich never arrived before I was rushed down to the labour suite!

SarahScot · 12/03/2011 18:04

Oops, from my post above it looks like I eat nothing but junk! I'm normally really healthy, honest!!

Beveridge · 12/03/2011 21:06

Chocolate muffin with custard, about half an hour before my first contraction.

Eating during labour just gave me terrible heartburn - and the MW was stingy with the gaviscon so I won't be trying that again this time!

Meglet · 12/03/2011 21:19

Chip shop chips and fat coke on the way home from my last ante-natal class as I was already in labour. I figured I would need the carbs and sugar to get me through labour Hmm. 12 hours later I had an EMCS, trust me, you do not want food in your bowels after an op as it doesn't want to come out Sad and ouch.

For my planned cs I didn't eat much the day before as I didn't want to get bunged up again.

nomorecake · 12/03/2011 23:40

my mum made me something spicy, both times.

nomorecake · 12/03/2011 23:42

i think she did it on purpose!
(will ring her tomorrow. never occurred to me before!)

Jacket potato with beans and cheese before my waters broke, then takeaway curry and a couple of large glasses of red while waiting for labour to actually start. Curry for energy and the wine to help me sleep!

PermaShattered · 13/03/2011 18:53

Indian takeaway in the visiting room on antenatal the night before I was induced for preeclampsia. Big mistake: the spices affected the baby thro my milk!

BellaBearisWideAwake · 13/03/2011 18:57

sarahscot did it work?

Cheese and onion flan in the hospital which I subsequently kept throwing up all through labour and on another note I'd cleaned my teeth with a toothpaste with a blue line in it and everything came out blue !!!!

PuraVida · 13/03/2011 19:04

I cooked fish the night before. Rare for me and when I woke up with tummy ache feeling sick I thought I'd poisoned myself. Took me a good hour to realize I was in fact in labour.

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 15/03/2011 17:03

Celery soup. Which was about as tasty as it sounds...

Kagey · 16/03/2011 10:14

I had quiche, and promptly threw it up a few hours later when I got to hospital - still cannot eat quiche :(

frida75 · 16/03/2011 14:35

baked beans... Not a good idea Grin parp!

DMCWelshCakes · 16/03/2011 18:17

Sweet & sour chicken with rice. Don't remember finishing it though. DiddyDragon still took another 26 hours to arrive too. (Winces at memory of 54 hour labour...)

BellaBearisWideAwake · 16/03/2011 18:29

Less of a theme emerging now...

Wonder if it is pasta for me

for me it was a hot curry from the takeaway - the old wives' tale worked for me!
