Here's the question. If I were going to give you a food hamper as a gift when you give birth, which foods did you miss most and what should I put in it?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I stopped eating soft cheese for 1st pregnancy, then for 2nd I figured that no women in France probably did so I started eating it again!

Other more sensible women may appreciate some Brie?

gaelicsheep · 16/11/2010 01:51

Yes, soft cheese, definitely. Maybe not the most practical for a food hamper though? I can't think what else I didn't eat!

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 16/11/2010 03:39

Was thinking Brie Stilton champagne pate anything else?

Food, full stop. I vomited the whole pregnancy!
My sister gave me some yummy biscuits for middle of the night feeds, they were one of the loveliest things.

ttalloo · 16/11/2010 04:39

Sushi and sashimi for me. I couldn't bear even the thought of cooked fish when pregnant, especially the oily stuff like mackerel and sardines, but I longed for some raw fish with wasabi paste and pickled ginger!

One of my friends brought me an enormous take-away while I was in hospital after having DS1 and it was the best thing I'd eaten (apart from the two slices of Mother's Pride toast with strawberry jam a few hours after my CS Smile)

debka · 16/11/2010 07:09

Chocolate. Lots of it.

SaorAlba · 16/11/2010 07:12

Pate and camembert.

Andie20521 · 16/11/2010 07:17

Pate for certain, sushi, brie, smelly blue and goats cheeses! Oh and dont forget the champers!

Most other things I wanted I ate in moderation (I was delighted to find I could have a "Chucky" Egg & soldiers as long as it was red lion stamped)

DH is under strict orders to bring me a picnic of all the above if for any reason I am kept in hospital...Good luck

ethelina · 16/11/2010 07:24

I missed medium-rare steak, only ate it well-done in pregnancy. Next time I will eat it how I like it and just be better informed about where it came from.

Blatherskite · 16/11/2010 07:33

Champagne would have been a torment for me as I didn't drink alcohol while I breastfed - especially not when they were brand new. I'd have probably opened it to share it but not had any myself Sad

I missed soft boiled eggs, parma ham, brie and medium-rare steak.

I'd have loved chocolate and biscuits to munch during the night feeds.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 16/11/2010 08:24

Cool. So basically what I thought, with emphasis on the soft cheeses and chocolate. Not sure I could send steak or sushi mail order! Grin

Wine!

fragola · 16/11/2010 08:38

Gorgonzola! And booze!

Octaviapink · 16/11/2010 08:42

I didn't miss anything because I didn't stop eating anything!

Marjee · 16/11/2010 08:50

Peanut butter! My mw advised me to steer clear as dh has a lot of allergies and once she'd told me I couldn't have it I craved it! Also soft boiled eggs

BrassicaBabe · 16/11/2010 10:08

So far, sod the food, missing wine!

BollocksToThis · 16/11/2010 10:11

My darling SIL presented me with a box of oatcakes and a slab of pate when i got home after having DS. I thrust him into her arms and scoffed the lot Grin

When I had DD recently SIL couldn't come to visit so I made DP stop at the Co-op on the way home from hospital and sent him in with strict instructions to bring me pate and red wine. Yum! :)

TallulahBelly14 · 16/11/2010 11:01

Pate and cocktails are the big ones. Oh, and I've been steering clear of prawns recently, just to be safe. But other than that, I haven't minded the deprivation too much!

goodlifemummy · 16/11/2010 13:48

No food, just my "helps me make the dinner glass of wine"!

dikkertjedap · 16/11/2010 13:55

Nice bottle of wine (and yes steak, but appreciate can't be sent in hamper ...)

SaorAlba · 16/11/2010 13:59

Wine is a given. And lager. And gin. Grin

Househunter · 16/11/2010 14:01

Didn't miss any food. Just vodka Grin

BikeRunSki · 16/11/2010 14:02

Peanut butter,it's my standard breakfst fare. MW advised against due to allergies in DH's family. Tried all sorts of other nut butters, nothing compares to Peanut though.

thefurryone · 16/11/2010 14:20

Wine, a nice cold beer and pate I really really miss pate at least I can eat other cheese.
