Here's the question. If I were going to give you a food hamper as a gift when you give birth, which foods did you miss most and what should I put in it?

Wine.
Goats cheese.
Soft, runny boiled egg.

gaelicsheep · 16/11/2010 15:42

I didn't miss wine cos I still had the odd glass. [Do I need to Blush).

matana · 16/11/2010 16:04

Cheese, cheese, cheese... although i've coped by seeking out those varieties i CAN eat!

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 16/11/2010 16:09

I'm not sure I understand the question? Why would you miss food?

I mean I missed clubbing and my high heels, but why would I miss food?

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 16/11/2010 16:13

Okay read the thread now. I see what you mean, although I didn't miss anything because I ate everything I fancied. Did quite a bit of travelling in Eastern Europe in early pregnancy and everything was smoked, cured or covered in homemade mayo. If it wasn't, it was shellfish.

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 16/11/2010 16:13

I figured they had babies in Poland and Greece!?

GoldenKippers · 16/11/2010 17:24

Stilton - the best money can buy.
A cheesecake made with raw eggs.

PaigeTurner · 16/11/2010 19:20

I'm looking forward to some liver and bacon mmmm

ShoeGal76 · 16/11/2010 22:17

Wine, gin, being able to have as much caffeine as I wanted, peanut butter and fish (DH allergies so had to watch out for some things).

Had fish pie, wine and peanut butter on toast within my first week home from hospital!!

Dummyhunter · 17/11/2010 13:04

Rare steak with a stilton and port sauce our local pub does - the night we came home he had arranged it as 'take away' from the pub for me (was not BF) and there was a cheese board in the fridge with salami etc for nibbles - mmm will miss it this time too Sad

Dummyhunter · 17/11/2010 13:04

sorry by he I mean my hubby

bumpybecky · 17/11/2010 13:05

uncooked cake mix!

I love eating raw cake mix and do a lot of baking. It was torture to not lick the bowl when pg. I gave in by child 3!

whoknowswhatthefutureholds · 17/11/2010 13:18

mussels..had some the next day, and runny eggs.

Crazycatlady · 17/11/2010 19:42

Sushi - it's the only thing I haven't eaten this time. But not practical for a hamper!

To be honest, last time (my first PG) I gave up everything you're supposed to give up and thought I'd really want rare steak, pate, cheese, wine etc after giving birth but i didn't. The thought of rich food after everything my body had been through was bleurgh. I'd have appreciated things to snack on and keep my energy up through the constant feeding and being up at night, so perhaps:

  • homemade flapjacks
  • some lovely jam
  • a pot of that lovely Charbonnel & Walker hot choc
  • homemade cheese straws
  • some nice toffee sweets
  • luxury chocolate
Strix · 17/11/2010 19:58

sushi (okay, not in a hamper)
vast quantities of fine wine
smelly forbidden cheese
my migraine meds

running... I miss running! So would like a nice new pair of posh running socks.

geekygiraffe · 18/11/2010 13:00

red wine, stilton and salami.

Tinkerisdead · 18/11/2010 13:04

oh lord yes, soft cheese!

When I had DD DH opened the fridge to reveal he had bought me an entire brie. It was as wide as the fridge. I could have married him all over again that day.

arfasleep · 18/11/2010 13:06

Brie, camembert, stilton, brie, brie..I really missed brie!

msbossy · 19/11/2010 07:32

Smoked salmon sandwich and a pint of cold lager. (I am a woman of contradictions!)

Fibilou · 19/11/2010 17:27

I didn't stop eating anything but I did stop drinking more than 2 glasses of champagne in a sitting ! So I would say couple of nice bottles of sparkling wine/champagne. You can keep the food Grin

kitten30 · 19/11/2010 18:10

Glass of wine or larger and liver!
