They have edited a negative review of a campsite we recently stayed at have painted it in a positive light.

I am fuming, we only went on the strengths of of the other reviews on there.

I will never believe another word I read on there and I am upset as after MN it was my favourite site.

Well, well I am amazed they are allowed to do that.

We have also used the site to research decent sites.

MisSalLaneous · 27/06/2010 21:57

Maybe we all should start putting up camping reviews. There are some on here (under reviews), but the grading thing doesn't really work as not everyone rates the sites.

For a start, I'll go and review one site now. If everyone on this thread does the same, it might be a start?

MisSalLaneous · 27/06/2010 22:00

Oh I talk rubbish - there are ratings to all. I can't remember why I decided to ignore the reviews and search through the camping talk topic instead.

serin · 27/06/2010 22:24

Well I am still awaiting a reply from them.
I have never posted a mumsnet camping review before but I am about to!

Right, I have posted the review on MN camping now but it hasn't appeared, do MN have to vet it first?

MisSalLaneous · 27/06/2010 23:37

Hmm, not sure. I've done a review on Forgewood, but there was one already, so I just added another review. If I search for FW, mine appears already. Which one did you review?

Concordia · 27/06/2010 23:54

oh bummer, i have booked a campsite for next weekend on the basis of this site - birchbank farm in cumbria. i had heard in the past that the reviews were heavily edited but i didn't realise it was that bad.
are there any other review sites people use?
i hope the place is ok, booked it mainly on the strength of the reviews

Wiggletastic · 28/06/2010 07:48

I have posted a couple of reviews, both with positive and negative points, and they have both been included in full. I have always thought the reviews are quite balanced and have been put off some sites by reading the reviews. It seems very strange and quite concerning that they have edited your review, I wonder if this is a new policy. It will be interesting to hear if you get any response to your complaint.

nannyl · 28/06/2010 20:29

i too have published many reviews, good and bad and really bad and none have been edited and have appeared exactly as i typed them

Slubberdegullion · 28/06/2010 20:30

How very odd, and sad if this is indeed a new policy.

I have never held back with my comments and all have been posted in full.

Lilyloo · 28/06/2010 20:39

I have also had both positive and negative reviews posted without editing.
Makes a bit of a mockery of it if that is the case.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 28/06/2010 20:49

Right, am only going to bother posting reviews on MN now.

Serin, can you post your original review here?

kalo12 · 28/06/2010 20:54

which campsite was it?

mumsnet is a much better bet for asking about campsites

thatsnotmymonkey · 28/06/2010 20:56

I just posted one that we stayed in this weekend and it was so so lovely. Slapton Sands in S. Devon

milkybarsrus · 28/06/2010 23:04

Last year I posted a review on there and it was edited, so much so that it left any negatives out! I was cross about it because many others have used similar wording and their full reviews have been published. Also, I left a review on a site in ashford which was 95% great, but I did say that the pitch was cramped and very close to the campsite road, and yes you've guessed it, they edited that out too!!!
All of my bookings for sites are based on ukcampsite and reccomendation, but it just goes to show that all may not be as it seems .

serin · 28/06/2010 23:20

Oi, MN what have you done with my review for Cold Springs Farm, Buxton

Why have you not posted it? I need to warn the other MNrs.

Serin, I think this is now getting personal.

SleepingLion · 29/06/2010 08:35

I am interested to read this thread because last year I had a terrible campsite experience but when I sent my review to UKCampsite they refused to publish it because it was the only review I had written and they wanted me to send some more Wonder if I would have got that reaction if I had written a positive one?

Needless to say, I don't bother looking at their site any more.

Thromdimbulator · 29/06/2010 14:22

Is this the difference between a normal listing and a featured site I wonder? Pay enough money and they'll vet the reviews for you?

I'd rather have a review rejected than edited. Is that even allowed?

Agree, the good thing about putting the reviews on MN is that although our tastes and preferences may differ we are all thinking about them in terms of family-friendliness.

I was going to post my first ever review on that site, but it was going to be very positive review so no editing by them I guess, but I will post on the reviews here as well now. Disappointed UKCampsite would do that.

Iggisonthesofa · 29/06/2010 22:59

Have just booked two campsites on basis of ukcampsite reviews
Does anyone have suggestions of other review websites then that we can defect to?

welshdeb · 29/06/2010 23:04

Not sure if sites in the uk are included but I look on zoover for European sites. I think it's Dutch so there are some reviews that are not in english but the sites are all scored.

Iggisonthesofa · 29/06/2010 23:10

Ooh,thanks.

flossie64 · 30/06/2010 10:41

I know some sites are reviewed on tripadvisor, e.g. The Orchrds on the Isle of Wight.
