They have edited a negative review of a campsite we recently stayed at have painted it in a positive light.

I am fuming, we only went on the strengths of of the other reviews on there.

I will never believe another word I read on there and I am upset as after MN it was my favourite site.

wow. That has put me off looking there. Have you been in touch with them? Also, whay would they do that?

serin · 26/06/2010 20:40

Have no idea, maybe the owners also own the campsite?

Can you imagine the outcry if MN started to edit our posts!

That's odd! There are hundreds of negative comments on there. Was it edited before it appeared or after? If it was after, maybe the owners made a complaint. But that doesn't make it the right that it should be changed. Can you contact UK Campsite and warn them their credibility is at stake?

serin · 26/06/2010 20:48

I only posted the review on Monday and I checked it today and found a review that I most definitely did not write!

I complained about the excrement on the toilet walls, they changed this to "dirt".

I said that the view was pretty but certainly not outstanding or the best I had ever seen (which is how lots of reviewers described it). UK campsite just put "the veiw is pretty".

I complained about the great big pit bull type dog that was roaming the site, they put that it is not your average "border collie".

It goes on and on.

Overall the review they printed was negative but not nearly as bad as I described it.

I will contact them.

View.

Typo's all over the place. I am so {hmm]

its sounds very very strange. I find the dog description very upsetting, I would not go near a site with a pit bull type dog or any dog that was roaming free. My girls would be terrified. So i would want to read your trueful review.

welshdeb · 26/06/2010 21:09

I have read similar things about this website and now tend to look on other websites for reviews of campsites.

Lovesdogsandcats · 26/06/2010 21:25

the comments you have said that they have changes yours to, are not positive though?

MilaMae · 26/06/2010 21:28

God what site was it????

serin · 26/06/2010 21:59

No they haven't changed my negative comments into positive ones, they have just ommitted the 'worst' of my comments.

I did include some positive remarks eg. "The view is pretty", as I did try to be as objective as possible.

MilaMae, am I allowed to say which site, I am worried about Ricepuddings' comments re; legal action now!

OP posts:
serin · 26/06/2010 22:01

What are the websites you look at Welshdeb?

OP posts:
Millimat · 26/06/2010 22:03

Nooo say the site! I have also heard they edit comments, though wouldn't know where else to look for reviews?

Lovesdogsandcats · 26/06/2010 22:03

I left a fairly neg comment and it was posted in its entirety.

serin · 26/06/2010 22:18

Yes, I have left fairly negative comments in the past and they have posted them as written, but not this time!

OP posts:
cosysocks · 26/06/2010 22:33

hmm I've tried to leave a negative comment but it was not pubished...
the site we stayed at had big group of blokes drinking til small hours and a my friends baby's cot being hit by a football but apparently not allowed to say this.

RadioSilence · 27/06/2010 14:29

I have posted on UK Camp Site to ask about this and the question was almost immediately deleted and I appear to have been blocked from starting or replying to any threads.

I am so disappointed. I loved that site and relied on their reviews when deciding where to book. What is the point of reviews if they can put a "spin" on what you said?

MisSalLaneous · 27/06/2010 16:52

I'm really disappointed and shocked to hear this - I thought you could rely on their reviews.

Makes you appreciate MN all the more for not editing posts left right and centre.

MollieO · 27/06/2010 18:28

Maybe they have been threatened with legal action over other reviews so are taking more care with what they do. Sad as I rely on that site for helping choose where we go camping.

MilaMae · 27/06/2010 19:58

I'm wondering if MN could tweak the campsite reviews on here ie put them in alphabetical order/area.

Also maybe we all ought to post a few more reviews as I'm guessing a lot of us want the same kind of site and it would be really helpful to know which sites other Mnetters rate highly - or not

hocuspontas · 27/06/2010 20:33

I've emailed them and hopefully will get a reply and not be 'blocked' like RadioSilence

SagacityNell · 27/06/2010 20:39

mini hijack - where is the campsite review place? After reading this thread i will do one for the site we stayed at recently!

wubblybubbly · 27/06/2010 20:45

They published one review I sent, it was positive.

Another I sent wasn't so glowing, although again I really was careful to mention both positives and negatives (like the fact the tent field was perched on a 100ft cliff with no safety barrier - not ideal with a 2 year old)

They responded by saying they wouldn't publish it because I hadn't sbumitted enough reviews. I've since heard it's common place, wouldn't rely on those reviews at all.

Millimat · 27/06/2010 20:56

So really from now on we need to just look at reviews on MN?

arcticwind · 27/06/2010 21:42

That's a shame - I have booked Ellscott Park based on the UK campsite reviews so I hope I am not disappointed

It is so hard to find out otherwise unless you meet people who have bene there. Did not know there was a review section on here - is it mixed in the Camping section or separate and indexed for ease of reference?

Thanks
