Camping at Charmouth, not exactly glam but the kids will love it and for five of us in August it cost £118. Swimming pool and shop (pool is entry fee), park, basic but we know region v v well so know we will love it!

AuntyQuated · 07/07/2005 20:44

AuntyQuated · 07/07/2005 21:49

littlemissbossy · 07/07/2005 21:52

OMG that's the one! I'll be there in 4 weeks... we're staying in Brittany for the first week... if you're there at the same time, you'll notice me, I'm the northerner who always does loads of washing!!

Gillian76 · 07/07/2005 21:55

cod - paper pants ?????????????????????????

fishfinger · 07/07/2005 21:55

gill yes take them! disposable! my mumm does when she ona walking trip!

OP posts:
Gillian76 · 08/07/2005 08:52

Oh well, if you're sure...

The thing I'm worrying about is pillows. We have to take all our own bedding and pillows and with the baggage allowance... I have those sheet sleeping bags you get in youth hostels (on recommendation from someone here!) and fleece blankets from IKEA. But the pillows remain an issue! We were planning to just buy them there but we don't arrive til 7.30pm and I wonder how practical it will be at that time in the evening.

Ho hum...

Gillian76 · 08/07/2005 09:03

Do you think this would be hideously uncomfortable?

lilibet · 08/07/2005 09:10

Auntyquated adn LMB, I've been there and it's fantastic - it's a really wonderful site. We tried to get in last year and ended up at Blois instead - far too quiet for us - we're loud northerners too. Trying the Vendee for the first time this year.

littlemissbossy · 08/07/2005 09:20

Lilibet - thanks for that, I'm really looking forward to it now!

fishfinger · 08/07/2005 09:37

ooh link please guys!#

yes we like lievly cmapsite - more fo r the kdis and us to gawp at

think those pilllows look fine but may be a bit hot

We are going with Venue Holidays - also much cheaper than Keycamp and Eurocamp. How do you find out who the campsite owners are? We thought of that but couldn't get the info. Between me and my dp we have 5 dds so we couldn't use Matthews as they don't do big enough mobile homes!!

OK my list so far (is at home so this is from memory!) includes -
tickets
passposts
E111s
travel insurance docs
mobile
charger
cameras and camcorder charger
travel plug
sunglasses
cassettes and walkmen for dds
games
books
folding chair
beach towels
bucket and spades
armbands and goggles
waterproofs
trainers and sandals

can't think of anymore just yet but it's only my starter for ten. I like to have one on the go for weeks before and then every time I think of something I add to it. If we're doing it on-line I'd better bring it to work with me eh?!

A review area on here is an excellent idea btw!

Tortington · 08/07/2005 22:54

venue - eggselent.
re: Pillows. if you have a small car or fat family then you dould always take cushions. i used to but now i have those sucky outty air of baggy things which make everything air tight and
one third of the size. gives us enough room to take the mini hoover to suck it all up for a=on the way home

customs think taking a hoover is odd when you get stopped though - they think your a cleaning freak.

the other good thing is - you have the hoover so cleaning a tent( whoch can be a bitch) is a piece of p*ss

myalias · 09/07/2005 08:38

Take some old towels to put outside shower cubicle the floor gets very wet and slippery.

happymerryberries · 09/07/2005 08:48

You can get smaler pillows in Ikea, they roll into very small bags and don't take up a lot of space.

Don't forget pegs and something to wipe down tables etc.....flash type wipes are good. Citronella candles/insect repellant and anthisan cream/anti histamines. You can get them in france in pharmacies, but it is a faff, especially if your french (like mine) isn't that good.

Re Zaragella, mates of mine went last year and had a fab time

For everyone going to the Vendee get Angela Birds guide book....excellent for finding things to do with the kids

Long matches for the BBQ

Don't take beach toys, we buy them in the local supermarkets....lots on sale and not too expensive. We don't take any food except tea bags as the French don't do tea very well. Take breakfast ceriel if your kids are picky. The local food and wine are both wonderful, if rather expensive post Euro!

AuntyQuated · 09/07/2005 09:04

lillibet - we went to the vendee and it was brill. Brem-sur Mer...there's not a lot in the town but can recommend the funfair for children older than toddlers. everyhting is manual, and it is great fun. HUGE bouncy things for adults as well as kids. cheap to get in. it's one of those places where you come back absolutely knackered and absolutely filthy but you have had a fantastic day.

listmaker-we found out the owners by just googling the name of the site.
thanks for your list, will see if i have anyhting to add.

coddy - link
keycamp's desciption
site's own site!
our accomodation

AuntyQuated · 09/07/2005 09:07

don't the provide pillows? just take extra covers in case they are mank, then if they are you can buy more later

where did you get your sleeping bag liners from?

Surfermum · 09/07/2005 10:04

Camping L'Atlantique at Beg Meil for us. Will be perusing these lists with interest as last year we went camping in Weymouth (less than an hour's drive) and had to take 2 BMW's! We don't do travelling light very well and I, of course, get the blame.

fishfinger · 09/07/2005 11:30

hmm looks very nice aq but i have to be on the coast
a beach addict me.

OP posts:
Milliways · 09/07/2005 12:46

For beach addicts, try Le Vieux Port. Its got direct beach access, local town has a sea water lake with sandy beach, surrounded by The Landes Forest & we even drove to the Mountains for a day of chair/ski lifts etc). Went to Spain for the day. Been twice (last 2 years), but back to the Vendee this year for a change

calpopscalum · 09/07/2005 12:56

Listmakeer
we'll jus miss you we're going to Village la plage on Aug 31st so if there's anything we need to know please post when you get back!!

Wentto baden last year - fab fab fab!!! gorgeous camp site and hte best pool ever!!

Bonnes vacances!
