After vowing never to go camping EVER AGAIN....

the kbears have been invited on a three day camping trip with some friends and we are considering going.

My question... is camping ever worth risking a marriage for?

Wet and Windy Weymouth 2007 was HELL.

It's not going to rain next week is it? IS IT?

No it will be fine

Kbear · 20/05/2009 21:01

My next questions are

  1. Can I be arsed to spend my whole day tomorrow unpacking/sorting/repacking the trailer?
  1. Will I find someone that can fit a towbar before Tuesday? (we have a different car since we went camping last).
  1. Will we remember how to pitch the sodding tent? I doubt it.

I thinking "no bear, just go shopping with your mum tomorrow, get your hair done and spend next week lazing round the house letting the kids laze around the house".

Just take lots of wine ..always made our camping trips more bearable

MamaG · 20/05/2009 21:05

but they won't laze around

They'll argue over the DS games
They'll complain that they're bored
They'll insist you bake stuff

random · 20/05/2009 21:10

trips to the loo at 3 in the morning
freezing at night
leaky tent
mud
oh sorry ...thats not convincing is it

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/05/2009 12:11

Fresh air. No time schedules. Plenty of beer. Feeling of being worthy for giving kids chance to be kids.

Can't wait for camping. Am going wednesday

sat/sun nice. bit of a thundery blip possible monday/tuesday then hopefully back to nice.

Kbear · 21/05/2009 12:40

Kitten - I need a more detailed weather forecast than that please for Tue/Wed/Thur/Fri!!

Ok ok we're going. Slight technical hitch - still haven't found someone that can fit the towbar....

Tried Halfords? Ours does towbars on a drive in basis

Kbear · 21/05/2009 13:11

Right, god help us, I have booked the tow bar fitter for saturday morning, I have booked the campsite.

Now I have to do all the other stuff!! I'm off into the garage now to unpack the camping stuff and count tent pegs! LOL

Peachy · 21/05/2009 13:16

I dont think I've cunted a peg in my liefef PMSL (but then we take a variety so we are OK depending on what terrain we find on arrival)

Slubberdegullion · 21/05/2009 13:19

Oh Peachy, I think doing that to a tent peg is probably a step too far into the realms of being a happy camper.

Slubberdegullion · 21/05/2009 13:22

Mind you those special pegs for keeping your tent secure in sandy terrain have got some girth on them.

Peachy · 21/05/2009 13:23

I did rather like that typo

Hall of fame one that, y'know

Slubberdegullion · 21/05/2009 13:38

I shall mock you with it whenever there is a suitable moment on a camping thread.

ninah · 21/05/2009 13:39

forecast for the bank hol weekend is HOTTEST EVER or similar
go for it

Slubberdegullion · 21/05/2009 13:41

I've just metchecked the Lakes where we are headed on monday. Things are improving although a little on the moist side still. This is an improvement on two days ago when there was SLEET forecast with overnight temps of 1 degree.

brr

Peachy · 21/05/2009 13:43

Well what do you expect from the lakes in MAy LOL?

We're off to pembrokeshire to a proper campsite with fires n all. very Boden

Slubberdegullion · 21/05/2009 13:46

Sorry for hijack Kbear

Peachy · 21/05/2009 13:48

Not yet, coming with us Saturday.... Dh was amde redundant a few weeks back so we haven't been away much (and we had to do a rugby thing for mayday) but he now has a confirmed place at Uni so breathing more easily again LOL

Your lot OK?

Lucycat · 21/05/2009 13:54

ooh looky my 2 favourite mnetters on the same thread!

How are we all? sorry to hear about your dh's job Peachy.

we are off to Dorset on Saturday - checking out that fabulous weekend weather! yay

slubber - you taking the Cabanon?

Slubberdegullion · 21/05/2009 13:58

aww, warm feelings about seeing you guys too.

Sorry to hear about DH's job Peachy. You must update us on the cob outcome. I have been eyeing them up for some insane reason. We barely have enough room for our legs let alone any more equipment.

Lucycat, OF COURSE we are taking Loopy. I am trusting her high end canvas to stave off the frost bite.

Peachy · 21/05/2009 13:59

Hello Luce

Links arms and sings jolly camping songs

DH is fine, been dying to do this degree for yearas, good excuse now, and I'm applying for Mc in social work 2010 entry- give aus a few years we'll be well away LOL

Peachy · 21/05/2009 14:00

The Cobb actually isn't that big you know. Not for what it is anyway.

DH si also eyeing up one of those coleman foldover thingys but I have said No! Three stoves is enough for anyone PMSL
