Camping and DH forgot half our gear

In car heading North on M6. I've spent all morning grocery shopping, packing food, kids gear etc etc. DH had to remember two things - a) the trailer which contains all camping gear, tent, chairs, bbq. B) the crate in the garage with all the other bits - pans, plates, cups, cutlery, tea towels, all the essential bits and pieces.

We have the trailer. We have no crate. I'm trying very very hard not to call him names. Like twat for instance.

Dh on lad’s holiday forgot passport… I did drop it off and demanded a bottle of perfume for my efforts

QOD · 30/05/2023 19:18

on our honeymoon many many moons ago (33 years) we camped en route to the South of France
we had everything. Champagne, tinned beans, bacon, eggs sausages ,,,
we did not have plates, cutlery, tin opener, frying pan ....

we had to go to the farm house and buy some cider as a sweetner to be cheeky enough to ask to borrow but for some reason just got 1 of everything
To add insult to injury, the cider exploded inside the car the next day ...

My late husband left my big suitcase behind the bedroom door. Got to Heathrow, no case!
Flew to Miami in Jaeger velvet jacket and wool skirt with thick tights and boots! (Was a Christmas trip a long time ago!)

He had to take me to some posh shops in Palm Beach (our resort) to buy replacements. Woz great. Loved it.

Thesunwillcomeoutverysoon · 30/05/2023 22:00

Ime a good camping hack is to call at the local corner shop just before closing. Some mad bargains for supper we have enjoyed! Once got a whole cooked chicken for a pound!

PuttingDownRoots · 30/05/2023 22:11

On a weekend away, DH and I travelled in trainers. We had booked a posh meal that night.

The good news... DH had packed two shoes.

The bad news... that was two shoes between us!!

DogInATent · 30/05/2023 22:14

Unless you've had to Amazon Prime something essential to Reception, can you even call yourself a proper camper? 😂

(been there, done that)

brawhen · 30/05/2023 22:19

We were once driving North on the M6 - a couple of hours in DH suddenly lifted both hands off the wheel and exclaimed 'OH SHIT I FORGOT MY TROUSERS'.

(It was pre-kids, so no excuses)

I always now ask him about his trousers as we set off 😁

We stayed in a cottage in Dorset this Easter. Dh had locked the roof box (with all our clothes in, food, wine and Easter eggs)
and left the key on our kitchen worktop at home!
Had to call a locksmith out who cleverly came and cut us a new key for £150.
Dh is a bloody idiot Confused

This is excellent advice and I'm taking it. Didn't even say twat because children.

Tango Whisky Alpha Tango. Your new call sign.

PrincessofWellies · 30/05/2023 23:02

We were invited to a family party camping at his uncle's estate. The boyfriend of the time forgot the tent poles so we slept in the Wendy House in the garden 😂

Seeleyboo · 30/05/2023 23:03

My DH forgot my clothes for our holiday. 7 days in one outfit.

RollingOnTheRiver · 30/05/2023 23:06

DH once forgot to pack our sleeping bags.
We set up then he drove a 3 hour round trip to our nearest friends to borrow theirs.
We still talk about it 15 years later.

NoSquirrels · 30/05/2023 23:12

Then we had to drive, late at night, to the local ASDA to buy loads of towels. I've still got them somewhere, which is more than I can say for the husband.

Bwah-ha-ha!

My DH packed my labour bag in a panic (early baby!) and didn’t pack a towel (or any toiletries). My post-birth shower was completed with a tiny bottle of baby shampoo the midwives raided a Bounty bag for and the world’s smallest newborn baby sized towel…

Having an absolutely lovely time, has forgotten what a joy camping can be, even if half your gear is still in the garage.

We can't even wash up our expensive new plates as we have no washing up bowl. Or sponge. But we are wiping them down with damp paper towel (that I brought) and it works fine.

Honestly I was fuming when I wrote this post and you lot made me smile thank you.

I'm just back from a camping trip where we forgot all plates and bowls, all socks and jumpers for the kids (it was hot when we were packing Confused)

We were driving to a friend's the day before we were all due to attend a funeral. My dad forgot the suitcase with all of the smart clothes and shoes in. He was able to borrow trousers and a shirt for the funeral but my poor mum (who was a completely different size from any of of our friends) had to go in jeans and trainers. 😁

I always forget the pegs when camping. Always.

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 31/05/2023 20:56

my husband forgot the key to the roof box once. That went down well!!

IDontWantToBeAPie · 31/05/2023 20:57

He pays for all food or you go home.

PuttingDownRoots · 31/05/2023 20:58

I've just remembered our last family camp trip. Due to various reasons, DH, younger DD,our friend and his two DDs went on the Friday afternoon, I went on the Friday evening, other friend (wife of friend 1) came Saturday morning.

Within half an hour of him arriving I started getting the list of forgotten stuff... including g the pump for the tent and the cooker.

The next morning Friend got a list of stiff like juice and ketchup.

Mommasgotabrandnewbag · 31/05/2023 21:13

Just come back from camping and the family in the opposite corner of the field forgot all the indie rooms of their tent.

The husband had to go back the next morning and complete a 6 hour round trip to fetch them.

I forgot to pack DH any trousers once on a camping trip to the peaks 😂

He forgot towels another time.

We've all done it OP. Throw him a bone here lol

I seem to be the only one here with socks...

We once arrived at the foot of a mountain we were due to walk up after a four-hour drive and I presented DS with two right walking boots, one of which was from the previous year and was two sizes two small for him. I'd bought the same design again because they were so comfy. 😳

That's excellent teamwork Roots!

I actually forgot all condiments- no mayo, ketchup or gherkins which is a huge fail. So at the looting of the services we ended up buying super fancy tomato relish and pickles. Lovely.
