He'd only try it once, though, Peachy .

Aitch · 02/06/2007 23:02

no go on, expat's pal chris bonnington told her to do it.

Peachy · 02/06/2007 23:04

Yes, my friend is doing a geography degree now actually so he can teach it with genuine knowledge- he's a natural at it all. They hold the world cave diving records close by (Wookey) and he's involved with all that, so I think he's the one to teach DS1. DS1 is one of thsoe kids who can just DO anything like that, I just know he'll excel at it. The campsite is good- its a normal campsite but they ahve a franchise op with a company that does adventure training, caving / climbing / archery etc etc. DH's mate is on the staff as well so we know he'd be looked after.

Peachy · 02/06/2007 23:05

PMSL Aitch

expatinscotland · 02/06/2007 23:06

How wild! The ex is a geophysicist!

I never get to see Chris Bonnington speak .

Saw a lot of others, though.

Mmmm, climbers . . .

expatinscotland · 02/06/2007 23:06

No one famous, well, one person. Who Shall Remain Nameless.

Cuz I never climbed with him .

expatinscotland · 02/06/2007 23:08

It wasn't Lizard Peak. It was Lizard Head.

There's a technical route up it.

How anyone has the energy to do a fucking rock climb up and then get off after that backpack from HELL is anyone's guess, but it sure wasn't me!

My pal Pom and I drank wine at the campsite and then spent the entire day getting the hell out of there - after she smoked a few Marlboro Lights - rather than racing down.

Peachy · 02/06/2007 23:09

Oh no I couldn't look at my mate like that- he's too erm, perverted frankly LOL!

A tendency to stand up in a crowd and state @i gave it her up the arse last night' REALLY loudly!

But I do trust him and the best teacher is always an enthusiast and all that

And I admire him too, he was almost illetrate when he started the access course we were both on, yet he's doen really well. genuinelya dmnire that sort of grit.

There's a serioulsy dodgy pic of him tho on Hot Or Not with a gold earringa nda pink towel and he wonders why he gets zero LOL

expatinscotland · 02/06/2007 23:10

He'd fit right in in the climbing world, Peachy .

expatinscotland · 02/06/2007 23:10

OMG, the chats you'd have on the approach or the decents!

Peachy · 02/06/2007 23:16

Ah the chats with him were pretty hilarious LOL

Slightly scary at times, completely insane at others in a dont-get-in-his-car-he'll-kill-you sorta way, but really funny nonetheless

expatinscotland · 02/06/2007 23:17

He'll do great in climbing. He'll meet many like-minded, twisted souls .

Hence, why I haven't climbed in 5 years.

I've still got my harness and all my shoes, though.

I still remember all the knots.

I think I could still do it.

Peachy · 02/06/2007 23:20

Ah but isn't it one of those things where you think you can do it

And then you do it

and swear never again?

Bit like Dh and his carnival stuff

Before:
'Ah yes I can do that, 4 hours dancing no problem'

After:

'Help me! I'm dying! I seem to have aged 20 years in the past day'

Keep telling him, just imagine you can still do it, no need to actually test the theory LOL!

fillyjonk · 03/06/2007 07:13

ahhhhh my work is done

FrannyandZooey · 03/06/2007 07:19

I am dreaming now about a big yurt with lanterns and rugs and a futon and stuff

ooooooooh

Peachy I salute you

fillyjonk · 03/06/2007 07:20

YURTS are fine

different thing entirely

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 03/06/2007 07:28

this is sheer tent snobbery

poor Peachy

her toes will go blue and drop off

fillyjonk · 03/06/2007 07:30

ohhhhh yes

peachy would you like us to arrange a MN collection for a doorbell for you?

perhaps a window box with mixed tasteful annuals?

Blandmum · 03/06/2007 08:18

Don't have a carpet.

Do have camp beds and a crash mat, so I am a softie. We also take the lap top for late night film watching if it pisses down. So I',m deffo a camping softie.

Oh, and we always have filter coffee first thing in the morning. Uber softie!

I don't get the 'wipe your arse on leaves and sleep in a hedge' school of camping

fillyjonk · 03/06/2007 08:32

oh god coffee is an essential. PROPER coffee

PrettyCandles · 03/06/2007 08:43

The first time we went camping as a family we loaded our estate car to the roof and thought we'd takne an excessive amoutn of kit. But at the campsite we saw how other people camp! The following year we added a roofbox .

Before we had children camping was a minimalist sort of holiday - most of my camping was in Israel, and we didn't even bother with a tent most of the time. But I'm just too old and stiff for 'proper' camping now. We've even sunk so low as to always get electric hook-up pitches. A friend told me she takes a fan heater...I'm tempted...

fillyjonk · 03/06/2007 08:45

pmsl

but why not just stay in a hotel?

i'd be cheaper!

OP posts:
Peachy · 03/06/2007 14:58

oz hotels are shite- after all we don't do the heater / fridge / EHu thing so not quite sure why I am worse than any of that school of thought!!

However would quite fancy a hanging absket from my tent if I had some place to hang it

I'd probably have to hang a sign saying 'It's ironic, luv' underneath for all the old caravan type Grannies who would want to compliment me on it

Peachy · 03/06/2007 14:59

Sorry COZ

Not Oz

Australian hotels may be very nice indeed, have no idea.

Cant do the somebody tidying up my room room servicey thing, like my privacy

(And I don't start threads asking where one can camp near to a trabucks.... ooooh I have a long memory PMSL )

fillyjonk · 03/06/2007 15:00

plastic flowers are probably the way to go here

and some nice fake-fabric ivy
