And there's those who set up windbreakers all around their tent to enclose a little area as if it's their front garden. Why not bring a pcket fence and few border plants?

beckybrastraps · 03/06/2007 15:07

My tent was blown over last weekend (cliff top, gales, bad combination).

It is damaged, and due to it being, um , vintage, we are finding it difficult to get spare poles.

I am rather .

Peachy · 03/06/2007 15:07

Now why do they do that? Surely camping is for those who want to see the outdoors and be sociable, not hide away and have a permannent view of garish plastic or worse (imo) colpur coded to your tent plastic??

I proudly declare the Peach Family Camping Kit windbreak free!

beckybrastraps · 03/06/2007 15:08

Windbreaks.

Not sure they would have helped us....

Peachy · 03/06/2007 15:09

Its steel poles isnt it? Fibreglass poles can be made up locally but I wouldn't know where to start with steel ones I am afraid

BUT its been a wet Whitsun which typically means lots iof famillies who bought a tent, use it once in rain and are now flogging on ebay cheaply

Peachy · 03/06/2007 15:09

delta paegs would have, windbreaks are a waste of time in my book

beckybrastraps · 03/06/2007 15:11

But I like my orange tent

I don't want to follow the herd with their tasteful pods and tunnels...

Lucycat · 03/06/2007 15:14

oh no your poor frame tent witht he flowery curtains becky!

is there a specalist website for frame tent devotees that could help you out?

expatinscotland · 03/06/2007 15:14

How about a few gnomes for outside the tent?

You know, tent gnomes.

I see a real niche market for these .

Lucycat · 03/06/2007 15:15

We had hailstones and wind but our tent stood firm - and dry - even without a sig

Lucycat · 03/06/2007 15:16

tent gnomes - fab!

and window boxes / hanging baskets, gravel driveways..... the list goes on.

beckybrastraps · 03/06/2007 15:16

DH has had the welder out, but it's not looking good

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 03/06/2007 15:20

Windbreaks have their use. But it is plain wrong if you have brought eight in the back of your car to use to fence off an area.
I once saw a family camping with this arrangnement, and astroturf laid all around the inside.

My funniest camping experience was when I saw a woman looking mighty dishevelled emerge from a tent opposite us at glastonbury, in wellies and very muddy, she pulled out a portable steam iron and ironed a dress to perfection using a skateboard wrapped in a towel as an ironing board.

Lucycat · 03/06/2007 15:23

becky, how about this website? if they do canvas repairs they may well be able to point you in the direction of pole repairers?

beckybrastraps · 03/06/2007 15:25

Cheers Lucycat!

Peachy · 03/06/2007 17:01

The camping and kite centre 9they have a website) near us also does fibreglass, they mat know of someone who does frame tent pole repairs.

tent gnomes? How about tea cosies for the empties of a morning? Seeem to be loads of those lyinga bout

Lucycat · 03/06/2007 17:05

Howdy Peachy!!

How was Cheddar? Did you miss the bad weather?

Surfermum · 03/06/2007 17:15

We're looking for solar powered port and starboard lights to hang outside our tent.

My pet hate is people who go to the shower block in slippers and dressing gowns. What's wrong with a hoodie and flip flops?

beckybrastraps · 03/06/2007 17:19

I was looking longingly at the caravans last weekend...

Lucycat · 03/06/2007 17:22

I once did that becky here

I am completely over it now though

beckybrastraps · 03/06/2007 17:23

But they are so - sturdy...

Lucycat · 03/06/2007 17:25

and dull

your frame tent will live again.

and you'll wonder why being a smug tin tenter ever appealed.

beckybrastraps · 03/06/2007 17:26

Well, it isn't dull that's for sure

seb1 · 03/06/2007 17:36

There is one luxury that could convert me to camping, real flushable toilets, now that would convince me

Peachy · 03/06/2007 17:42

Ah yes decent toilets

DH and I reckon should we ever open our campsite, we'll ahve a 'posh' area where poeple pay through the nose for their own loo and shower block

Weather avried Luce, one bad day, three sunny ones so a good balance. Went to Wookey hole on the bad day so was OK. Dh loved it as his old mate was there again doing the entertainment, he has ahrdly seen him since we moved.
