Glamping - not what I expected...

I booked a glamping experience via air b&b - it isn't what I expected, but I don't know if I am being precious.

We are in a pre- erected bell tent with inflatable beds, which is very sweet.

It's the lack of amenities that has surprised me. There is a long drop toilet and a communal open shower (photo attached) which are basic. The shower is tepid at best, overlooked by the farmhouse and the sheep keep popping in!

But no stand pipe or tap to get water? No where to wash up

It's £90 a night. Would you be fed up?

The very fact they used the word 'glamping' when clearly is anything but would mean op has already been misled.

If you haven't paid, don't pay and leave and explain why

If you have paid, then talk to the owners and hopefully they do the right thing. Alternatively you can take it up with air bnb and if you have no luck with reasonable owners.

MiracleAccidentMistake · 03/08/2018 10:08

Yes we are their ffirst customers...

Lovely idea ( even if a rip off price) while we are mostly in the middle of a heatwave. Unsure how they'll manage once the summer comes to an end

WonderfulWonders · 03/08/2018 10:12

Oh wow - erm they need to do much better!

mineisarossini · 03/08/2018 10:12

Yes I think you need to be very straight with them, you are the first customers this is nowhere near up to scratch. They can refund you and then consider their pricing and advertising separately.

This is your holiday time - precious time - they are wasting. Be firm but nice and get your money back.

vandrew4 · 03/08/2018 10:14

can we have a couple of pictures of the tent by any chance?

LoveInTokyo · 03/08/2018 10:15

Air conditioning? Really?

Fountainofchub · 03/08/2018 10:18

Who mentioned air con?

Mrsmadevans · 03/08/2018 10:21

Awful and not at all like Glamping is meant to be OP . Very basic indeed.

FrolickingForklift · 03/08/2018 10:22

I think if you're their first customers you need to be really straight with them. I would think most people do soft openings with a venture like this, a low rate or free so that they can get constructive criticism of the facilities and offering.

SuitedandBooted · 03/08/2018 10:25

£90!
We stay in a fully equipped 2 bed (both ensuite) detached cottage on a small farm in Wales. Only one other rented cottage on the whole place. Close to beaches and absolutely lovely area.

It's less than £75 per night in August, including our dog!

mineisarossini · 03/08/2018 10:28

They advertise air con in the particulars! I find this very hard to believe looking at the hideous photo of the shower!!!! Grin

LoveInTokyo · 03/08/2018 10:28

It's on one of the screen shots that the OP posted.

rubyjude · 03/08/2018 10:30

Erm......they have completely mislead you. Did they have lots of photos up etc? Yo uneed to speak with them and tell them this is NOT what you were expecting from their descriptions. Take it up with air bnb if needs be, but make sure you get pics of all of it too.

WindyWednesday · 03/08/2018 10:31

There do you stand to shower, and what is the gas for?

mineisarossini · 03/08/2018 10:31

It looks very much like the shower we had on safari in Kenya 15 years ago when it was very very very basic (hole in the ground for the loo) It was in the back end of nowhere amongst the tribes. Every time you turned it on a tiny trickle would pour out and then spiders would come up from the shower plug. This is EXACTLY what it looked like and it was wretched.

Poor you op. Refund now!

MinaPaws · 03/08/2018 10:36

God I hate camping. This post reminds me why. Lovely to get muddy, wet, achy and sunburnt in the countryside all day long so long as you can come back to hot showers, soft towels and decent beds.

Shockers · 03/08/2018 10:38

I would gently offer them constructive feedback and tell them that, at present, their facilities aren’t worth the £90 price tag, but with some tweaks you’re sure their business will be successful.

lexer · 03/08/2018 10:39

I've found her AIR bnb entry and I think it shows the importance of reading reviews. She has caravans which get an ok review but it looks like she (the host) has cancelled 4 x bookings in July 2018. That's not good...people booking then having it cancelled.
There are no reviews for her camping. You should give an honest review so that others know what they are getting in to.
She sounds greedy.

lexer · 03/08/2018 10:54

She (Georgina) seems to have several adverts for these tents. On some of them (presumably the one you saw) there is a picture of a bath (so advertising shower facilities)
On the one I am looking at now it says "Our Luxury Bell Tents sleep up to 4 people, there are no shower facilities on the campsite."

queenrollo · 03/08/2018 11:07

I found a listing too and it seems deliberately vague to me.
The photos are certainly very glamorous and I suspect what I am looking at is not what you are faced with in reality.

That shower is shocking. We have stayed on some very basic sites (we tend toward eco sites) and have never been faced with something quite as Heath Robinson as that.

I would complain, and I would leave a very honest review on the aribnb. If I had booked this for my family holiday I would be gutted.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 03/08/2018 11:42

You are only a few miles away from me OP.

In answer to your question, YANBU. You have been ripped off. What are you going to do about it?

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 03/08/2018 11:49

That shower is crap. Reminds me why I don’t camp. This is an overpriced pisstake.

Notquiteagandt · 03/08/2018 11:52

Have you been onto air b&b customer services? Think they are usually pretty good. I would take loads photos too.

trinity0097 · 03/08/2018 11:56

Is it even legal to not provide washing facilities?!
