Glamping - not what I expected...

I booked a glamping experience via air b&b - it isn't what I expected, but I don't know if I am being precious.

We are in a pre- erected bell tent with inflatable beds, which is very sweet.

It's the lack of amenities that has surprised me. There is a long drop toilet and a communal open shower (photo attached) which are basic. The shower is tepid at best, overlooked by the farmhouse and the sheep keep popping in!

But no stand pipe or tap to get water? No where to wash up

It's £90 a night. Would you be fed up?

It looks awful OP, I would not be happy with that at all

Holidayshopping · 03/08/2018 09:40

We glamp regularly-about £50-60 a night. Beds, shower, toilet, basin, kettle, sink, fridge. Many have microwaves, telly, sofa, table/chairs as well as crockery. You’ve been had! Didn’t you look at the facilities before you paid?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 03/08/2018 09:43

I’ve only just realised the shower is outside! No that’s not acceptable unless it was very clear in the description before you booked.

I really like going to campsite with good clean facilities. That’s why I always read lots of reviews on Ukcampsite before booking. I’m not sure if they do Glamping reviews though.

How did you find out about this —hovel— site?

pictish · 03/08/2018 09:46

That shower is shocking!!

Yeah i wouldn’t be happy with that. I go camping a lot and every non-glamping bog standard campsite I have ever stayed on has done way better than that for £25 a night. We have our own bell tent and all the luxury trimmings, so it’s great.

Definitely complain. £90 a night for that shower? Fuccckkk offfff.

Hushnownobodycares · 03/08/2018 09:47

Notanexpert but that looks and sounds very....basic.

Sorry, OP. Think you've been had.

Juells · 03/08/2018 09:47

I have a friend who does Air BnB and she goes spare if there's even a slightly negative comment. One customer complained that they'd been told a high chair was available and it wasn't - he'd asked about a high chair (for a one-bed apartment) and friend bought one and dropped it around, but hadn't unpacked it from the box! That earned a negative review, which immediately impacted on her rating.

So leave a proper review, just as you have here.

TatianaLarina · 03/08/2018 09:51

Any ordinary non-glamp campsite has better facilities than that.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 03/08/2018 09:51

Glamping?! No, more like Cramping - crap camping!

GahWhatever · 03/08/2018 09:53

You are on an eco-campsite, hence the composting loos and sun warmed water.
They are very much 'a thing' at the moment. Be happy that you are having an unexpected hipster holiday and let it go: next time maybe book 2 nights glamping, one in a premier inn for showers and fry ups, and then another glamping Grin,

FrolickingForklift · 03/08/2018 09:53

Is there even a door on that? Toilet wouldn't fuss me but that shower would be a complete no go

Fountainofchub · 03/08/2018 09:54

How did you not check this before you booked?

Ariclock · 03/08/2018 09:56

I would complain as that's terrible for £90 a nigh! See if you can get some money back.

DustandRubble · 03/08/2018 09:57

It really does depend on the listing. I have been to one with an outside shower similar to that. But it is not in sight of anything and is a fun experience. It has a long drop toilet too. And the listing is very, very clear about what it does and doesn’t have. Also it’s cheaper than that.

None of those things are terrible, but you need to know and be happy what you are getting.

pictish · 03/08/2018 09:57

Composting toilets don’t bother me at all...neither would the sun-warmed water. I’m all for that eco schizzle.

I’d be pissed off at the lack of privacy and the fact that it’s plonked right in front of a house. They’ve made fuck all effort to make it appealling to their customers in any way.

StillMedusa · 03/08/2018 10:00

That is definitely not glamping!
We camp (own tent ) every year and the sites we have used always have good shower blocks, proper toilets and washing /water facilities..usually free standing taps for water.
I would be horrified at those loos and showers !

gigi556 · 03/08/2018 10:00

Tbh, I've looked at glamping before and never ended up booking as I thought it was terribly expensive for what it is... I'd rather just go camping or stay in a hotel.

ToeToToe · 03/08/2018 10:00

I could not shower in that!

Not glamping IMO, and for £90 a night you could get a hotel with a private bathroom.

I thought glamping had real beds, furniture etc in lovely big tents. You could have blown up an airbed yourself in the usual non-glam-camping way... Grin

lexer · 03/08/2018 10:02

That shower is hilarious.

Bluntness100 · 03/08/2018 10:03

She can't complain if it is as advertised. The excuse of well I didn't look properly is her problem not theirs. She can only complain if she's been misled.

If it's as advertised and she then booked and agreed to pay that price the problem is hers. So it comes down to what was advertised.

LoveInTokyo · 03/08/2018 10:04

Looks overpriced to me.

I stayed somewhere on the Isle of Skye with bell tents, lovely hot private gas-powered shower, dry composting toilets, a kitchen/living area with gas stoves and running water for cooking and washing up, fire pits, all kinds of stuff. That was about £80 a night I think.

mineisarossini · 03/08/2018 10:04

Not glamping hell no.

I would ask for a refund and leave.

wildbhoysmama · 03/08/2018 10:05

We go to Featherdown Farms, which are really luxurious with super-comfy beds, dining area, sofas, cold store, kitchen area, inside toilet, shower cubicle with roasting water, hot tub/ separate, huge kids' play tent with lots of activities for about that a night. The only way I glamp at all. Poor you.

What about communal amenities? It doesn't mention shower or loo on those images,,,
