Who is off camping this weekend?

We are heading off with a group of 16 friends on Sunday to the same place we have been for the last 3 years www.wellington-country-park.co.uk/camping-and-caravanning/.

Bit boring of us but the kids love it there! We will be staying for 4 nights and tend to spend all our time in the country park as their is so much to do.

Praying for good weather but not expecting much as it always bloody rains when we go camping!

Anyone else?

Dorset, near Bridport. It's a friend's family's paddock, and we're going to put the tents up and leave them up for the entire summer holidays!

And there's some electricity, so I'm taking a proper fridge down too.

Very envious of that, stihlhere. Late breakfast at the town mill bakery. Heaven.

Vivi, my 1 year old isn't especially conducive to campfires so not too fussed. Although I did wonder whether a firelog in a bucket BBQ might be ok. Will check site rules.

Yes I can imagine I might be singing from a different songsheet this time next year when there's a Prulet in tow. I'd be interested to hear whether they'd allow tha though. We take a Weber Fireplace and several campsites who stipulate no campfires let us use that....

vivi - I agree about campfires being so important.
Unfortunately, none of the campsites around Aviemore (where we are heading for a week in August) allow them.
I wonder if they'd let us bring our raised firepit under the guise of it being a bbq?

Oh and we have always had fires, even when the children were babies and toddlers. It's fine...you just have to be vigilant and employ common sense.

Thanks for sage words pictish, very reassuring. I'm sure the earlier they learn about fires the better. You can understand sites not wanting people making fires everywhere on the ground indiscriminately, I've sent a few owners a photo of our raised firepit and they've said that's fine....

pictish I know I know. But he is a bloody liability at the best of times and it's just one more thing to have to worry about! The last site we stayed at each pitch had it's own firepit (which we didn't use) and it was bad enough keeping him out of it without a fire! Surely you should be ok with your raised firepit? I thought the no fires thing was more about sites not wanting big black burnt patches all over the campsite but maybe some don't allow it from a safety point of view? Although that would be extreme surely campfires and camping go hand in hand and have done forever?

I am pleased to report back that campfires are fine at Manor Farm! You just can't put them on the actual ground but they provide piles of bricks at various points so you can stick foil BBQs on them but anything of the raised up fire pit type is fine. Great site, highly recommend it. We will be going back.

I'm off to Bedgebury in the morning. All packed up in the hal, way, ready to load the car first thing. Feeling excited as first trip of the year. I am going to take my small tent as just me and 2dc. I have bought a new canopy for it but yet to try it out. So fingers crossed I manage to put it up OK.

That's good to know, Rocky thanks for reporting back. Glad you had a good time.

cece that's a nice site, we had biblical relentless rain for 48 hours there last August bank holiday, looks like you'll be in for better weather. Have fun!

we are off to eweleaze tomorrow, just packing now. it looks like the whole contents off the house has been spewed into the front garden, not sure it will all fit in the trailer. dh foolishly said there may not be enough room for cake...i guess we could always leave a child behind.

Maybe see you there hazeyjane. I will be mainly standing by the hay bales if the last few years are anything to go by. And possibly I may be a fat woman in a swimsuit picking her way reluctantly over the stones into the sea for the four nano seconds until DD decides it is too cold and insists on getting out again.

Such fun!

I will be the one lugging around my 4 year old son (we can't pack his buggy!!) looking tired but happy and wondering where my dds have run off to!

I got round to buying some beach shoes for the stony beach, but the delivery hasn't turned up, so I will be tip toeing too!
