Who is off camping this weekend?

nikki1978 · 22/07/2014 11:49

We are heading off with a group of 16 friends on Sunday to the same place we have been for the last 3 years www.wellington-country-park.co.uk/camping-and-caravanning/.

Bit boring of us but the kids love it there! We will be staying for 4 nights and tend to spend all our time in the country park as their is so much to do.

Praying for good weather but not expecting much as it always bloody rains when we go camping!

Anyone else?

Just realised I promised to come back with a review of Starry Skies and I forgot….

We went with 3 other families and had a great time.

  • Plenty of space to camp - didn't feel too squashed
  • Really excellent shower/toilet blocks. Regularly maintained, proper flushing loos, no queues (there were sometimes short shower queues in the morning but we just showered when there weren't queues later in the day).
  • Lots of activities for the kids, which they really enjoyed. A variety between outdoor stuff like forest school, outdoor games etc and craft-type activities
  • Small enough that they could be pretty independent - my 5 and 6 year old both went off and did things with their friends.
  • Good amounts of shaded activities - it was really hot those few days. Enormous fully shaded sandpit was a godsend for entertaining small people out of the sun.
  • Lovely area….really nice and quiet. I went for a lovely bike ride and a couple of runs in the surrounding area when I could sneak off for a bit
  • Some lovely thoughtful touches like baby baths with a harp player every evening
  • Really helpful and lovely staff

    Downsides:
  • Some activities were pretty busy…hopefully they'll hold extra sessions next year
  • The camp shop was really good initially but v low on stock by late on….just at the time when everyone's ice had melted and they were short of stuff too.
  • The cafe did some very nice food and not stupid prices, but they were pretty inefficient at serving, resulting in some very long waits for food there.

All in all we had a great time. Will we go back next year? It will depend on what else we end up planning holiday-wise but will definitely consider going back. My kids are still saying it is the best bit of the holidays so far.

No, I refrained from bunting but did admire it. My guess was only based on your group seeming the largest :)

We were tucked away around the corner on the non-electric pitches.

Yes Hughie is so lovely :)

You are correct Thumbwitch - how could you tell? Were you the people with the bunting behind us?

I hope we weren't too annoying!

We had a great time too and the kids want to go back again next year. I love Hughie the train driver.

OP, my guess was that you were with the group who had the paddling pool Smile

Weather looks a bit grim - rain tomorrow from midday, storms on sat, nice Sunday, rain Monday, etc etc

Nearly packed here, tiroler cake made, soup, milk and butter frozen, forgot to get box of wine, but have some bottles....getting very excited now!

We are back from our trip :) Was fantastic. Sunshine all week and lots of fun. So pleased to be clean and about to sleep in my own bed again though!

We will be up the road from Eweleaze at Whitehorse Farm. Meeting up with friends just for the weekend.

Car is mostly packed. Wine box, bacon and milk are in the freezer. Sticky gingerbread and lemon drizzle cakes are made.

Anyone seen the forecast?

I don't mind composting loos at all. So long as there's plenty of sawdust to hand.

I will be the one lugging around my 4 year old son (we can't pack his buggy!!) looking tired but happy and wondering where my dds have run off to!

I got round to buying some beach shoes for the stony beach, but the delivery hasn't turned up, so I will be tip toeing too!

Maybe see you there hazeyjane. I will be mainly standing by the hay bales if the last few years are anything to go by. And possibly I may be a fat woman in a swimsuit picking her way reluctantly over the stones into the sea for the four nano seconds until DD decides it is too cold and insists on getting out again.

Such fun!

we are off to eweleaze tomorrow, just packing now. it looks like the whole contents off the house has been spewed into the front garden, not sure it will all fit in the trailer. dh foolishly said there may not be enough room for cake...i guess we could always leave a child behind.

That's good to know, Rocky thanks for reporting back. Glad you had a good time.

cece that's a nice site, we had biblical relentless rain for 48 hours there last August bank holiday, looks like you'll be in for better weather. Have fun!

I'm off to Bedgebury in the morning. All packed up in the hal, way, ready to load the car first thing. Feeling excited as first trip of the year. I am going to take my small tent as just me and 2dc. I have bought a new canopy for it but yet to try it out. So fingers crossed I manage to put it up OK.

I am pleased to report back that campfires are fine at Manor Farm! You just can't put them on the actual ground but they provide piles of bricks at various points so you can stick foil BBQs on them but anything of the raised up fire pit type is fine. Great site, highly recommend it. We will be going back.
