We go on Wednesday. I am digging the winter pyjamas back out and have bought a tarp for some drizzle-protection. Bracing ourselves for being wet & cold.

Good luck hillbilly.

lisad123 · 02/06/2012 20:21

We are currently sitting at a very busy long Thorns Grin

MrsGaff · 02/06/2012 20:47

We went today to Fisherground in Cumbria today. Arrived just as they were putting up the 'campsite full' sign Sad. Did a phone round but literally every other site in the whole of the lake district was fully booked. Twas lovely and warm and sunny too. We're going to try again on Wednesday when all the bank holiday campers have gone home and no doubt it'll be pissing down.

rocketupbum · 02/06/2012 21:26

We are heading to wet and windy north Wales tomorrow. Bit cross that the heat wave has passed and have the thermals and red wine packed. Hope you have fun ladies

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 02/06/2012 23:37

We're going to Edinburgh on Wednesday. We did Galtres Festival last august bank holiday and reckon if we can survive that (waist deep in muck and shit and pissing it down and miles from the car) we can survive anything Grin
We're going to see the pandas at the Zoo, which is the absolute dream come true for no3 son, so the weather and anything else up to and including the Apocalypse doesn't matter - we promised him pandas, and pandas he shall have, if we have to swim in and out of the tent past ice bergs Grin

sphil · 03/06/2012 08:32

We are off to Hartland Point on Tuesday - according to the forecast there's the outside chance of a dry day on Thursday...

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 03/06/2012 10:48

We are at Kingsbury Water Park, near Birmingham. It was OK yesterday weather wise, we had a lovely day. Today it is wet but it's alright. Tommorrow is meant to be dry.

Dh was dreading it, but I think he's happy enough. The ds's are chilled and having a lazy morning. I'm glad we came regardless, camping is so relaxing.

It's busy too loads of tents arrived yesterday. Showers are empty though, everyone is hunkered downGrin

happyhorse · 03/06/2012 18:24

We were supposed to be going on Tuesday but I've cancelled as I can't face it. It's just me and DS and I just don't feel like I have the energy for the kind of jolliness you need to get through a cold, wet camping trip. We camped at Easter with low temperatures, lightening and hail so I don't feel too bad about wimping out this time.

MegBusset · 04/06/2012 07:52

I am MNing from my tent :) We are in Norfolk, came on Sat which was a beautiful day. It rained solidly from about 11pm Saturday til 3pm Sunday when it stopped briefly for a couple of hours then started again! We still had a good day yesterday, went to the Fairy Fair then to nearby NT place for restorative cream tea. The DC were happy enough in raincoats and wellies jumping in puddles :)

It rained most of last night and looking very cloudy this morning but we're due to go home today anyway, hopefully it'll stay dry long enough for breakfast and packing up.

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/06/2012 19:45

Just got back from Hampshire. Went on Friday and it was fine weather on Friday and Saturday, OKish on Sunday but simply poured down yesterday evening. Surprisingly the tent wasn't that wet this morning. My theory is that all the water was blown off by the horrendous wind ...

But we went to Wyke Down, and visited the Hawk conservancy trust. It was awesome. Peregrine falcons swooping, black kites doing acrobatics, vultures swooping over your head. It was amazing.

AllOverIt · 04/06/2012 20:44

We're of to Swanage for the weekend. Unpacking all the packed-away winter woollies. Grin

lisad123 · 04/06/2012 22:18

MNing from iPhone as sitting on Longthorns, with lovely fire and wine. Spent yesterday on beach, storm last night and been dry all day. Been to blue pool and enjoyed BBQ. Next few days look set for alot of rain but have friends here I can invade if it becomes too much Grin

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 05/06/2012 20:26

We are home now.

Had a lovely time despite the rain all day Sunday, reminded me why I love camping so much.

I can thoroughly recommend Kingsbury Water Park site, road noise is a problem but being so close to the canal makes up for it, some lovely walks to be had.

As always the stuff wouldn't go back in as it came out of the car and dh and I have had the traditional roof box conversationGrin The verdict is that despite having a ford galaxy, it still isn't big enough and we will be getting roof bars fitted to this car so we can use the roof box we abandoned when we bought our new car!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 05/06/2012 21:31

MN'ing from our tent in Devon Grin

T'was lovely when we arruved on Saturday, and yesterday was gorgeous but Sunday (ds's birthday) and today have been dreadful! We're here until Saturday so fingers crossed things improve a bit!

Piffpaffpoff · 05/06/2012 22:26

I've just got back from 3 nights at Sunnyside at Arisaig. I'm sorry to have to report to you all that it well and truly lived up to it's name, hot and sunny every day! We spent most of the time building sandcastles on the beach, it was fab. However, it was really, really cold at night, I was colder last night than I was on a trip in March. Good site though, very highly recommended.

DuchessOfAvon · 06/06/2012 08:33

We are currently loading the car. Gulp.

We are hoping for long enough gaps in the showers to get the tent up and down!

caerlaverock · 06/06/2012 09:06

Just back from north west Scotland. Constant sunshine, and sunset was at 10.45 . It was amazing

NoNoNoMYDoIt · 06/06/2012 10:15

Am off to the gower with the kids on my own this afternoon. they are 3 and 5. i am bricking it really as haven't camped on my own with them before. and the forecast is ueber dire. but i have already paid. damn it. i have to go. :(

Piffpaffpoff · 06/06/2012 10:19

Caerlavarock (great name btw) where were you? Always looking for site recommendations in that direction.

Piffpaffpoff · 06/06/2012 10:21

Such a great name that I can't even spell it properly...Blush

caerlaverock · 06/06/2012 10:26

Big sands at gairloch, it is a great site despite being enormous. There are good sites at Ullapool and torridon, big sands is best for kids though.

caerlaverock · 06/06/2012 10:27

We are hopefully over in arisaig in 2 weeks

Piffpaffpoff · 06/06/2012 12:48

I really fancy going to Big Sands but the kids were complaining about being in the car too long getting to Arisaig so Gairloch might be a bit too far for us for now (we're in fife). Have stayed at Ullapool pre-kids, it was nice.

caerlaverock · 06/06/2012 14:06

we normally stop over at aviemore on the way, which breaks it up a bit. it is a long haul though.

Oblomov · 06/06/2012 14:58

We are back home. Mid holiday. Dorset, from sat 2nd June , for 9 days, till this coming sunday 10th June.
So it was glorious on saturday , when we set up. sunday and monday, also sunshine and fab.
Loads of other campers really went to town on the jubilee celebrations, with beer flowing, wine, bunting everywhere, sack races, egg and spoon races, cake decorating and face painting. Was really good. My 2 loved it.
Then on tuesday is pissed it down. All day. So much so that our gazebo got filled up and the bedroom annex of our awning fell over, because there was so much rain.
It is predicted to be persistently raining for the next 2-3 days.
Dh has an interview tomorrow, so was planing on popping home late today anyway. He was going to come home and I and the boys were going to stay there. But we decided to all came home first thing today. Will go back tomorrow , after dh's interview , or even on friday, maybe. depending on the weather.
I am a bit of a fair weather camper!! Camping is pissing rain for more thna 2-3 days is not my idea of fun.
Then apparently it is going to clear up for next weekend. so we should have a good weekend and then pack up, in the dry.
We ummmmm, live in hope!!
