A glass of wine sat around the campfire...

so I am fed up with the rest of MN (this whole mamazon shite really is the ,last straw), so I am assuming that if any of you are trolling you are showing extraordinary persistence by delving into the thrills of iceytec and are worth chatting to.

So anyway, hi, I am SeaShells, I have 2 dc and have been camping and trapsing through the Great Outdoors all my life. I hang out here as my love of camping is more a love of the countryside and life, and you lot have a similar outlook.

V good.

I must go to bed too. Night all Smile

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 04/07/2011 22:19

Christ no, no wine on the tent, dp would have been sent home, just in a bag full of stuff (not clothes) which I sent him to wash in the dark (and rain) Grin

Go Outdoor sporks are shit, ds spent all of tonights meal pushing pasta shells onto the points of the fork bit with his fingers, just so he could eat them off of his spork, it was painful to watch.

I suspect a metal one would be more effective though.

SeaShellsAndTheInlawInvasion · 04/07/2011 22:19

Dh finally stopped working too so good night from me too!

MisSal you're right it's not cheap but I've gone for it...and found someone on camping who is going.

I can sleep happily. Sweet dreams all....

MisSalLaneous · 04/07/2011 22:25

Gah, now I can't find it again, sorry. Thinking about it though, might have been discussing Camp Bestival anyway, which I also looked at.

MisSalLaneous · 04/07/2011 22:27

Cross-post! Ooh nice, need detailed feedback afterwards, please.

Night all.

lostinwales · 05/07/2011 09:08

Morning, ugh grim weather for camping here, wet and windy.

What to do today then, I think I'm safe in saying that sports day will be cancelled. Got maths homework to do, need to phone car insurers and tell them we're taking the car somewhere forrin but I think I will ignore Mont Banc, sorry the laundry pile, as I have to be seriously bored before I do that

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2011 09:16

lost, I did forrin breakdown insurance yesterday. Today I will finish the joyless task of sorting holiday insurance and then checking with buildings and contents insurance to see if tent and kit are covered while we are away.

I'm going to need a lot of coffee.

On the funside I'm also researching solar charger gizmos for the iPhone and kindle. I love a bit of gizmo research.

lostinwales · 05/07/2011 09:24

Oh I've been looking at solar charger gizmos too. I saw one on the gadget show that was sturdy and a radio and had a wind up function too and was only about £30, can I find it anywhere, no.

I hadn't even thought about the tent being covered by insurance, although it's only £179 not like our posh one. Will be taking heavy duty duct tape and some of those clingons and bungees and if all else fails we can always stay in motel!

Funtimewincies · 05/07/2011 11:08

Blimey, it was busy here last night!

Congratulations on 20 years lovecat, I was feeling smug as it's our 10th this year but I now see that I'm a complete amateur Grin.

So it this the new way to identify a fellow MN camper, whispering 'death socks and sandals' and seeing if they give the correct response of 'I've got an iceytek you know'?

Rain has just arrived here Sad.

glitterkitty · 05/07/2011 11:33

Bon anniversaire lovecat/funtime! Will be our 14th on 20 July- I'll be working and in the evening doing the post camping washing mountain.

Perhaps there will be wine left.

Scorching gorgeous day in London again. Off to pub at lunchtime before rain hits. Perhaps great thunderstorm will prevent me going back to the office

Today I am buying more dye, having discovered the joy of dyeing clothhes at the weekend. Will be scabbling through old clothes bags tonight.

Funtimewincies · 05/07/2011 11:50

So...does camping contribute to a happy long marriage? Discuss Grin

lostinwales · 05/07/2011 13:16

I think so Funtimes, 13 years just celebrated here and I'm sure camping is the only thing that has stopped me shooting DH when he first comes home for the looong summer holidays. If he is in 'my' space doing everything 'his' way I get very grumpy. Off in our tent is neutral space and he can go off and collect wood to clear school out of his system.

Funtimewincies · 05/07/2011 13:25

Grin lost. Dh reckons that I'm much more laid back when camping. To be fair, that might be all the beer Blush but if it works for him Grin. Also the 2 ds get on much better when not cooped up in a small house together.

SeaShellsAndTheInlawInvasion · 05/07/2011 13:25

Although we have 5years marriage it's now nearly 14 year together, which is nearly half my life

OP posts:
MisSalLaneous · 05/07/2011 13:42

Well, it was our 7-year anniversary this year, but I kind of forgot to get the required itch, so we're probably good for life. Love your camping explanation though, Funtimes. Much, much better than me being too disorganised to remember to chat up Batman at the correct moment in time...

Camping gizmos it is today, then? overkill?

lostinwales · 05/07/2011 13:45

Don't fret about the rain, here in the extreme west (the last of the village pubs has a sigh 'last beer before Ireland!) we are getting bigger and bigger bits of blue sky. I will blow them your way.

Quenelle · 05/07/2011 14:06

Hello all. Today I shall be saying this only once, damn BB has been consigned to bottom of the handbag now that I can post on my PC instead of inbetween working. Actually I've spent most of this morning trying to find bargain 10cm self inflating mats, without success. I recklessly told DH that Lidl and Aldi do them for under £20. I literally have no idea where I got that information from.

Congrats on 20 years' wedded bliss Lovecat. I'm on 19 years this year, but I don't think I can thank camping for the longevity, we've only been for odd weekends over the years, we haven't attempted anything truly committed like a fortnight yet.

Slubber the more I look at the sandal/death sock combo, the more I like it. There, I've said it.

notwavingjustironing · 05/07/2011 14:19

Quenelle, Aldi do still have a few kicking about if you're not fussy which colour.

£12.99. I bought two and have slept on one and they are very good. Worth tracking down. Maybe the website could help you establish if there are any in a branch near to you ?

With regard to camping = good marriage, mine survives because DH doesn't come and moan so my boys and I go a bit feral.

And he really doesn't understand my love of the camping box and the need to rearrange contents therein every five minutes.... Grin

Quenelle · 05/07/2011 14:29

Thanks notwaving. I'll have a look. What thickness are they?

I'm gonna get me one of them camping boxes too. It will be so much quicker to load/unload if everything's in one place.

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2011 14:36

Thank you Quenelle. I thought they looked pretty OK too. I think the whole process of camping attire is pretty desensitising to fashion and gender trends tbh. Being wet and cold (or conversely hot, sweaty and itchy) trumps looking fabulous. I frankly couldn't give a shit anymore if I don't match up to fashion ideals when I am camping.

SeaShells, next year you will be able to celebrate Big Metal Chickens. Lucky you.

Well today I couldn't be arsed to research insurance today so instead I have walked the dog for over two hours and then spent a very pleasant half an hour or so in Coltswold Outdoors chatting to yet another taut and eager chap about creating my very own death socks (and trousers, and hats, and buffs) for the dds. I have a serious looking bottle of spray, will feedback when first socks are created and tested.

notwavingjustironing · 05/07/2011 15:25

I agree with you really Slubber. At home I'm a full face of make-up, high heels and attitude.

I don't even take my makeup camping. I have this vision of me being all healthy and dewy (think of Diaz on a good day), then I catch sight of myself in the mirror in the toilets and I look like a wizened farmer. Not the look I'm aiming for.

I live in fleeces and shorts, whatever the weather. I truly do feel like I have an outdoor alter ego which doesn't give a stuff about what I look like, as long as I am warm at night!

Quenelle, they are about 10cm from memory.

Quenelle · 05/07/2011 15:36

But you see Slubber, I think the death socks/sandals might actually indeed be fashionable.

Disclaimer: I've had no idea what's fashionable since 1986.

I loved the Big Metal Chickens story. The Bloggess is very funny.

And spray-on socks? Huh? I mean... Huh?

Quenelle · 05/07/2011 15:37

Thanks notwaving. I'm going on an Aldi mission on Thursday then.

scaryt · 05/07/2011 16:23

Quenelle - have an awful feeling the Aldi sims are 5 cm. I do have one but haven't used it in the tent yet or tried anything else out for comparison.

notwaving - know just what you mean about outdoorsy alter ego, I so think mine looks bronzed and healthy ...then I look in the mirror. Ugh.

Slubber - did you say you're going to make socks really? And I'm still dying to know what's technical about your trousers!!
