so I am fed up with the rest of MN (this whole mamazon shite really is the ,last straw), so I am assuming that if any of you are trolling you are showing extraordinary persistence by delving into the thrills of iceytec and are worth chatting to.

So anyway, hi, I am SeaShells, I have 2 dc and have been camping and trapsing through the Great Outdoors all my life. I hang out here as my love of camping is more a love of the countryside and life, and you lot have a similar outlook.

Oh God the metal chicken story is priceless.

Funtimewincies · 05/07/2011 16:29

I'm afraid that my camping alter ego is the same as my home one - looking my age, no makeup and jeans with boots. The only difference when camping is the greasy hair Sad.

I've decided that I'm going to hide the rest of MN and just come and play here. It's finally gone completely nuts. I was drawn into an AIBU discussion about ironing while a SAHP. Why Shock?

notwavingjustironing · 05/07/2011 16:41

Actually Scary you're absolutely right. They are only 5cm. But she could always get two and stick them together

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 05/07/2011 16:49

Oh. my. god.

Someone has been murdered at the campsite I am going to in a week and a half.

Feck.

Has given me the goolies.

MisSalLaneous · 05/07/2011 16:58

WhereTheWildThingsApparentlyAre Shock What??? Where?? Good grief!

Quenelle · 05/07/2011 17:00

WTWTW Really!? Where is it?

Actually, I'm going to stop asking questions and F5 a few times, I'm sure you're probably typing a full explanation right now.

Quenelle · 05/07/2011 17:02

In the meantime, notwaving I thought of putting two of them together just as I read your post. But my origianl plan was to put three of them side by side to make a lovely family camping bed, now I would need 6 and that's getting into Priceyland again.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 05/07/2011 17:07

Sorry, didn't mean to leave you hanging, went to put fishfingers in

Story here

Having a serious wibble, need Slubber to come and tell me to 'man up' or something.....

Quenelle · 05/07/2011 17:08

That is just awful. The poor woman.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 05/07/2011 17:12

Quenelle I have the Aldi mats and they are litterally the most comfy thing I have ever slept on, firm like sleeping on a futon, but you would never think they were only 5cm.

Quenelle · 05/07/2011 17:20

Thanks WTWTW. Am definitely going on an Aldi hunt on Thursday.

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2011 17:44

Oh God, that poor woman Wildy. Goes to show dv happens everywhere Sad and in all circumstances. How very sad. Wildy no need to man up, is a tragedy but is not going to affect your holiday.

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2011 17:51

notwaving, if it makes you feel any better, you wizened old farmer you, I stop noticing what people look like when I go camping. Must be something to do with all the fresh air and sky and shit, it's like my eyes skip over the bed hair and cagoules and crocs. Saying that I was somewhat taken aback by a fully grown man in one of those Primark tiger romper sleep suit things on his way to the loo block a few weeks ago.

I only notice smiley people and grumpy people. I would be RUBBISH on crime watch.

Scary and Quenelle, no no I am going to transform standard everyday socks into death socks by means of this bionic spray that I bought today. that is the plan. Technical trousers are technical by means of many pockets, and clever fabric that dries like this when it is wet, also breathable, cool etc etc

Funtimewincies · 05/07/2011 17:57

These are the [[http://www.wigglywigglers.co.uk/shop/product.html?product_id=1088&-session=shopper:5C0D30AC1136f2AC83PKR18F3FCA warmest socks ever. Pricey, but I've got a pair which I wear in my wellies and even the depths of a welsh winter allotment is no match for them Grin.

I was given them as a Christmas present (asked for, sadly Blush) and they almost didn't arrive as the farm where they're made was snowed in.

Shock and Sad WildThings. Sounds like dv on the face of it so at least not an axe-wielding nutter .

Funtimewincies · 05/07/2011 18:01

Bugger, lets try that again.

Why have all my settings suddenly changed and I can't preview before posting, grrr?

Vibrant · 05/07/2011 18:06

I notice people in dressing gowns going to the toilet block. For once it was me who wouldn't walk with dsd instead of the other way round when she brought hers on our last break Grin.

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2011 18:13

Fu time that is interesting. Third time I've read about goat hair socks. I may put them on my Christmas list this year.

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2011 18:16

I can never understand how people find the precious room to pack dressing gowns. Everyone seems to own Tardis cars.

scaryt · 05/07/2011 18:19

WTWTW that's awful. just awful and would leave me feeling a bit weird about going.

OK Slubber, spraying ordinary socks sounds like something I can get my head around. How about a link to these snappily dry trousers?

First death socks, now goat socks. Hmm Who'd've thought the things I'd be considering in this camping lark.

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2011 18:25

I could spend a whole lot of time talking socks.

They are Rohan Bags (the trousers) but won't link as don't shop there anymore after rubbish customer service experience.

scaryt · 05/07/2011 18:31

Oh, definitely no link if they're rubbish at being nice/helpful.

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2011 18:40

scary I am only utterly obsessed about the death socks and anti-tick stuff as we are camping in the Black Forest this summer that has ticks that carry encephalitis.

In this country standard socks would be fine in tick areas, and of course in non bitey areas a sock free lifestyle is go go go.

scaryt · 05/07/2011 18:45

Only recently read up about ticks and ferns/long grass - on our caravan site we cannot move for ferns and the small one loves either roving around in the ferns or pretending to be a wild animal in the long grass...am trying to LET GO, think a tick remover would be handy.

Now warm goat socks..that could be the way to go..wonder what they look like with sensible rejuvenating sandals?

lovecat · 05/07/2011 18:59

Thank you all for the anniversary greetings - we haven't quite made it yet, 4 weeks to go....

I am gutted that we appear to have missed out on the Big Metal Chicken anniversary. But I love that blog, she is v. funny :o

Wildthings, how awful. I'm not surprised you're feeling wibbly, I suppose the only comfort (awful though it is) is that it wasn't some random person murdering strangers on a campsite - now that would have utterly freaked me out.

On the more cheerful subject of socks, whilst in Aldi getting SIMs a few weeks back I picked up 2 pairs of their 'walking' socks which come in a fetching shade of maroon with pink highlights - they are sooo comfortable! They have a cotton inner sock and then the woolly outer and do that wicking thang thereby keeping you warm yet sweat-free. Lovely. Wish I'd bought more.

I have made my stripped down camping list for Latitude. It's very short and I feel strangely restless about it, that there's not enough stuff on it, and I shall arrive at the campsite to discover I've left something vital behind...

scaryt · 05/07/2011 19:10

lovecat could I be cheeky and ask what's on your stripped down festival camping list? Would help me mightily.

Really need a friend who hated camping but bought all the stuff and now wants to give it to me!
