i lurk here more than i post, but am seriously considering doing the same...

on this note am possibly about to buy self-inflating mattresses, not fat airics as can't afford. anyone know of good, cheapo ones?

ivykaty44 · 20/02/2011 21:43

so where are you going camping - or are you just hiding here Grin with no intention of actually camping at all...?

thisisyesterday · 20/02/2011 21:44

yes. and camping isn't at all is it?

thisisyesterday · 20/02/2011 21:45

yes i want to know the same as aitch

and i won't run back to camping because i'm already here.

DuplicitousBitch · 20/02/2011 21:45

ivy -- just swot up on cobbs and fat airics and mention them occassionaly and no one will care if you actually camp

earwicga · 20/02/2011 21:48

You do know he got hung, drawn and quartered in the end GetOrf?

DuplicitousBitch · 20/02/2011 21:49

getorf i no longer have the stomach for the endless yapyapyap

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 20/02/2011 21:54

endlessyapyapyap an excellent name. (only bettered by endlesscuntyapyapyap imo, naturally. Wink)

i don't understand why lying closer to the ground is warmer, thisisyesterday, that's the problem. but i must do something or dd will be sleeping on our airbed again, and that cannot happen.

thisisyesterday · 20/02/2011 21:57

airbeds are really cold (found this out last time"!!) because the air inside them is cold

so you're losing all your body heat down into the air chamber

a "filled" mattress like a self inflating one won't do that so you should technically stay warmer.

i am mainly worried about the comfort aspect tho! i can't afford fat airics either, but don't want to shell out on cheap(er) ones in case they're crap Confused

Fennel · 20/02/2011 22:02

We have cheap fat airic imitations, they seem fine, they were about £13 each and have lasted a few years.
But we are Tough and don't really mind sleeping on the floor anyway.

DuplicitousBitch · 20/02/2011 22:05

airbeds are fine if you put a good thick rug on top

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 20/02/2011 22:06

am considering these

AitchTwoOh · 20/02/2011 22:06

we are limited for space in the car as well, bitch, unf...

GetOrfMoiLand · 20/02/2011 22:11

I went camping once (when 5 months pregnant).

A wind got up over Hayle bay and blew our tent to bits. We got up at 3 in the morning and slept in the car.

We then watched as all the big 8 man tents started to be blown away, cue people fleeing out of tents in nightclothes.

Never been camping since, funnily enough.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 20/02/2011 22:14

You had the wrong pegs getorf - talk to Slubber or badkitten about their amazing ones - and maybe they'll post a link as I've forgotten what they're called...

thisisyesterday · 20/02/2011 22:15

getorf, we camped high up on cliffs at mortehoe in devon last year and i seriously thought our tent was going to blow away, it was really, really scary.

some other tents did get a bit um, pulled apart.
our neighbours wasn't helped by ds3 then going and launching himself onto the collapsing side Blush

AitchTwoOh · 20/02/2011 22:16

i'm strictly quechua popup, getorf, those babies can't be blown apart...

MisSalLaneous · 20/02/2011 22:18

Delta pegs Like PerArdua said, Slubber's the one to ask about them. I've been meaning to buy some - will have to do so before first camp. There goes my no-spend pledge. Sigh.

GetOrfMoiLand · 20/02/2011 22:19

Christ, were we supposed to peg it in? Grin Wink

ThisIs - I used to live about 4 miles from Morthoe on a cliff top, I used to feel that my house would get blown away, let alone a tent.

The wind used to just blow horizontally off the bristol channel.

Fennel · 20/02/2011 22:21

You had the wrong weather, Getorf, we are fair weather campers and if the forecast is for rain or wind, we just don't go.

We have had several lovely sunny trips to Mortehoe. No rain. or wind.

AitchTwoOh · 20/02/2011 22:22

amen, fennel. if it's not sunny, i'm not going.
