Anyone else with at least 10st to lose?

HerRoyalStressHead · 23/07/2023 22:25

I'm ashamed to say I'm at my heaviest ever weight of 21st 7lb.
Ideally I want to lose 11 stone.
Now, there are some things that hold me back. I'm on a metric shit ton of medication and I'm in a wheelchair, electric as I'm too weak to push a manual.
It's time I knuckled down and got on with it.
Is anyone else up for joining me?

My partner has to lose around 5stone, he’s yo-yo dieted for years to not much avail. He’s just signed up to have a gastric balloon fitted

Sportycustard · 23/07/2023 23:12

I will join you. I've lost 12lbs in the last 7 weeks and I have a lot more to lose. I'm also periodically on steroids which don't help and having investigations for lupus and sarcoidosis. I'm pleased with my progress but would love a buddy on this journey.

HerRoyalStressHead · 24/07/2023 01:42

Thank you. A buddy is definitely much needed for this journey as it can feel incredibly lonely.
This is the only issue I have with my mum. My weight. She insists on weighing me daily and if I've gained or maintained she gives me a lecture. I've told her repeatedly it'd not good for my MH but she's having none of it. So I have to learn to deal with that too. She's my carer and in every other way she's fantastic but when it comes to my weight, she is a nightmare. She's obsessed with me losing weight "for your health" which I understand, but I have no weight related health conditions. I'm still going to be disabled if I'm 10 stone or 20 stone. She keeps telling me I need to eat 800 calories a day, but I know that's far too low and not enough to sustain me.
So yeah, I feel alone on this journey as she's not exactly supportive even though in her head that is supporting me.

Hey,
I'm starting to calorie control again today.
Twice its worked for me for over 6 months (usually I give in on day 2).
I've recently tried meal replacement shakes, OMAD and keto, but I just haven't managed to stick to them.

I weighed myself this morning and I am once again the heaviest I have ever been at 26st and 10lbs.
My lower back has started to cause me so much pain when I walk from the weight of my stomach. Even at 20st I could walk for miles and miles as long as it was at my own pace, I've never felt this down.
I'm relatively young and tallish so I haven't suffered too many health problems due to my weight before, but this last bit of extra weight gain has really affected me.
I probably want to lose around 12st.
I am tall and look good with a little bit of weight on me as I'm an hourglass shape.

Feeling positive this morning, did a healthy and portion controlled food shop yesterday.

Good luck!

Hello.
I'd like yo join, please. I'm a similar weight as you, OP. I weigh in kilograms and I'm currently 136kg which puts me at a BMI of mid 40s I think. I really want to lose the excess weight and I also feel ashamed and embarrassed at how big I have got. I was already bug, but during the lockdown I struggled and put on another huge load of weight. It's time I really bit the bullet and started to make changes.
Good luck everyone and let's do this. I think small, achievable goals is good.
Xx

Welcome welcome, come on in. Let's get this carriage started for the ride of our lives. We can do this.

Hello @HerRoyalStressHead 👋 it sounds like you're in a tough situation and whilst I'm sure your mother's concern comes from a place of love and caring, it doesn't sound particularly healthy or safe. I wonder if your GP surgery has a health coach (or even a willing nurse) who could help devise a healthier plan? You can obviously use various apps and things (I'm a fan of Nutracheck) but it may help her hearing it from a professional. Are you reliant on your mum for your meals?

As for me, I'm a life long "dieter". I've fluctuated between 26st and 14st in my adult life and and currently back up to more like 26st again due to a combination of things like covid furlough, pregnancy, physical and mental health issues and to be honest, just liking food too much! I'm vegan, which generally comes with presumed healthiness, but as the vegan food market has exploded over the last few years, so has my waistband 😳

I've just come back from a week away with the girls (all of whom are at least half my size or smaller). We had a great time, ate some amazing food, but I've come home and I am done. Fed up with being the fat friend, actually craving a vegetable or two, so figured today was a good time to reset my Nutracheck tracker, get rid of the last 9 months of yo-yoing around the same stone, and get on with it.

Current stats:
24st 13.5lbs (I was expecting it to be higher!)
Calorie goal 2500 per day

HerRoyalStressHead · 24/07/2023 07:21

Thank you @PuffingPuffin , I actually have an appointment with my GP on Thursday about my weight, and I'm going to take mum in the room with me. Usually she waits just outside to give me some privacy.
I do rely on her for meals but I get my own snacks which has been my downfall. And the ease of things like uber eats delivering junk food to your door hasn't helped at all.
But I think if I was eating enough at meal times I wouldn't need to snack. Its just because I'm not getting enough in me, then I go OTT with the snacks in secret whenever I can, so if mum has an appointment or when she goes home for the night. I'm a nightmare. I know I am.

I've downloaded nutracheck and will be sticking to what that tells me. I've got DS1 (14) on board and he's willing to help me out with weighing portions and things, so even if he makes me a cuppa he'll measure out the milk and whatnot for me. Just need to hopefully get mum on board on Thursday

It sounds like you're getting a good plan together there which is always a great starting point. I totally get where you're coming from with the snacks and junk food. Whilst my main meals are normally pretty healthy, balanced meals, I am a real secret binge eater. I'm awaiting an ADHD assessment and the current thinking is that binge eating is me chasing the dopamine hit that I'm missing. It must be hard being reliant to a certain extent on your mum for your meals though. Do you have much involvement in what, when or how much?

HerRoyalStressHead · 24/07/2023 12:24

I choose all the meals but as for when and how much that's all my mums doing. She gives me a tiny amount and expects me to feel full, then wonders why I'm not.

OP posts:
HerRoyalStressHead · 24/07/2023 12:24

It wouldn't be so bad but she herself is obese, so she isn't exactly a font of all knowledge when it comes to weight loss

OP posts:
Sportycustard · 25/07/2023 08:10

That sounds really tough @HerRoyalStressHead

I've found volume eating helpful - filling up on low calories density foods. I never used to have pudding because it was "bad", now I quite often have a low calorie jelly and a spoon of chocolate protein pudding and I'm finding I stay full for longer and I'm able to avoid snacking

HerRoyalStressHead · 25/07/2023 08:40

Oooh volume eating sounds like something I could do.

How did everyone get on yesterday?

Also would anyone like a private Facebook group? I'll still keep posting here for those that would rather stay anonymous, but I find Facebook easier to use.

Hope your GP appointment went OK @HerRoyalStressHead ? I am now down a stone in 8 weeks which I'm happy with as they were a few events and work trips where it's harder to make the best food choices.

PuffingPuffin · 27/07/2023 08:35

Hope the appointment goes well today and is productive for you 🤞

I have identified that there are certain foods (namely crisps and toast) that do something to my brain which sends me from a normal person able to eat in moderation to a massive binge so I think I may just need to avoid those trigger foods all together.

HerRoyalStressHead · 27/07/2023 08:53

Thank you, yes appointment is 10 past 10 today.

I had social services out yesterday for a care assessment so I can have someone to help out that isn't my mum so mum and me both get a break. So hopefully that will generate enough to cover someone for a couple of days a week. They're also going to put pressure on my housing association to make adaptations to my home for me

I also struggle with crisps. If I eat them then binge binge binge. So I have to avoid them completely. I've bought lots of protein rich foods and low calorie snacks for me to grab when I'm hungry.

@Sportycustard that's an amazing achievement! Well done

HerRoyalStressHead · 27/07/2023 14:58

Well Dr put me on orlistat to help my weightloss. Mum is not happy. "It's not a miracle cure" "you have to eat 800 calories" "you're not a regular person, you're in a wheelchair so you need ti do something drastic to lose weight" "dr doesn't understand wheelchair users"
No mum, you don't understand weight loss. If you did you wouldn't be obese yourself.

Your comment is so rude and insensitive. Reported you

Judelawswife68 · 05/08/2023 00:44

I'm sorry. Am not trying to be offensive. I honestly don't understand.

Bouncyball23 · 05/08/2023 00:44

I don't concentrate on what I need to lose in the long run as it just makes me feel deflated and like it's impossible, I just set targets for myself which seem to be working probably better overall aswell am losing it slowly so should stay off and am 2 1/2 stone lighter than I was this time last year.

RicherThanYews · 05/08/2023 00:48

I'm disabled and 12st overweight, I'm in. I lost 15kg on keto before but it wasn't sustainable as I felt ill and lethargic all the time.
